For some reason, that concept is quite common. But, it's what they are used to, feel entitled to, and the only difference is affordability. An alarmist might suspect that they are really colonizing, the state, but most aren't that focused beyond I want what I want when I want it.never could understand the concept behind people relocating to a different state & then voting in support of policies comparable to those of the state they fled.
Curt- think quickly! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with.I have 2 possible locations, but I need to do some thinking on it.
For the most part I agree with you Willie on this one. My son has been in Austin since 2009 when he moved with his then business partners from Phoenix Arizona. He was 24 then. Our daughter and son received a liberal childhood (mom) with inklings of mild-conservatism (me) and conversations from a right almost wingnut conservative super rich guy (his uncle, my brother). The problem he sees in Austin is #1 the terrible crazy housing issues definitely pushed along but not 100% of the reason caused by “techies”. It was an expensive housing market already when he got there. Basically those house prices are pushing the workers not in management further out of Austin into the outlying Travis County cities and towns. He’s worried about the homeless tent cities that are choking the city and the clashes between City of Austin politicians and the Governor over how to handle them. He says when you are at a light coming off one of the freeways downtown and under the overpass and a guy gets out of his tent to take a dump 15’ away is disgusting. Gee, I agree with him on that. It chases away tourists. Houston found a simple solution to their homeless problem. Gather them up, put them on a bus and drop them off a block away from City Hall in Austin, true story. He is truly frightened though by the socialists moving in from every state not just California. You have some of the greatest tech orientatEd companies, (Dell, Samsung, Intel, Tesla, the ones Willie wrote and many others) in the USA moving to Austin. While the billionaire owners talk a conservative game and they truly take advantage of the tax discounts Travis County is offering. They are letting the management teams and worker bees preach socialism which in my mind and now the son’s are the greatest of threats to the USA.Way down here in Texas, native rich folks buy big ranches and don't tolerate the mostly liberal views of society that comes from folks who move in from the Left Coast. Austin is the exception here, not the rule. It's all of the Silicon Valley companies moving to Austin to escape regressive California taxes and excessive governmental regulation; as well as expensive housing and generally high cost of living for their employees. Several examples come to mind, Tesla, Oracle, Hewlett Packard, Dell and others. A home in Austin (which is the most expensive housing market in TX) averages about $500K, while a smaller sized place in the San Francisco area is $1.25M. In my part of the state, the median home price is $250K to $325K. Those folks that move there can not only pay for a home, but have plenty leftover for their high-priced cars. Thankfully, I am 250 miles away from that mess.
Xmas aside I really like the cracked earth effect, weathering on wood and individual planks, and the detailing outside the shop fronts, and the old church far rights is lovely. Santa on the general store is perfect and out of reach of little acquisitive bands, I have seen a lot of show modellers bemoan lifted car, ward, figured, and worst is it is not just young who will snaffle such things, one model,et was devastated when a rare small loco he had lovelingly repaired was lifted on its first show, he had left it at the front to be admired, someone taking that a little too farA FEW MORE LAYOUT PHOTOS
As many of you realize, it is difficult to portray a winter theme without snow. A south Alabama village often has temps in the 70's F.
Also, town budgets were very tight during the 1930s, so I can rationalize a scant Holiday display for Hope's Landing.
Our scenery man also knows how to re-rail a steam engine.

We did the same and got out of Dodge, we lived within east reach of London sold a e bed deli and for the same price bought a 3 bed bungalow and 14 acres of land, and immediately offered over the odds for an advance field, that field has since x4 in price. For the most part I agree with you Willie on this one. oh well, we still are a free country and somehow it will workout. Just stay out of my woods we have still in Wisconsin and off my side of a supposedly extinct volcano in Paradise and I’ll be fine.
YMMV though

We have cacti in the south of France. Of course, not as big as yours.Christian- I didn't know y'all had cacti in France.
I suppose that would be possible, for someone who's more computer smart than me. I don't know how, and I'm afraid to learn it less I push something important out the other side of my head, to make room for that kind of smarts.Guy, you could just photoshop the problem chair out of the picture.
Guy, that is me with anything involving the camera. I have threatened myself a few times to enroll in a local photoshop class.I suppose that would be possible, for someone who's more computer smart than me. I don't know how, and I'm afraid to learn it less I push something important out the other side of my head, to make room for that kind of smarts.
I'm happy with fiddling, but, thanks for the suggestion!
