I love this little puller. Nowadays I find most of the rolling stock and locos come with the wheels not true to gauge. I used to do it by hand sometimes angling the wheel on the axle ever so slightly, but enough to cause it to wobble. Also wheels bang on tend to go over turnouts without wheel drop.
Please explain how it works? I always wondered how to get the wheels in gauge.
You can get an NMRA gauge and adjust the wheels until the flangeways fit into the groove on the gauge.
I've had one made by Northwest Shortline since forever. I can't count the number of times I've used it both for adjusting wheel gauge and for replacing axle gears on brass diesels. Perhaps the best tool I ever bought. Without NWSL and Micro Mart there would be a lot of display only equipment on our layouts.

The wheel is placed inside against the slot so the axle sticks through to the outside. A screw is then turned in from the other end of the tool to push against the axle. In that fashion it widens the gauge. Put the wheel in the tool so the axle is inside of the tool and push against the opposite axle stub with the screw and the gauge is closed up. It is easier to do than to explain. LOL
Where'd you get it from Mike?
I've cut my fingers more than once trying to twist a sharp flanged wheel into gauge!
It would've been nice if he had provided a link.

You can get it direct from NWSL. Zoe just posted a link. Also Walthers carries NWSL so any LHS that deals with them can get it too .
I thought I also possibly had those wheel adjustment tools available but I don't see them listed.
Thought I might be able to offer you guys a good deal but I guess not?
Neat little device. I see Jeffrey beat me to it asking, where to get one I wondered?
I think I shall add one to my inventory!
Thanks for sharing!
David I think your website is broken...
The link is working for me, buddy. There are 3 types. The Quaterer 1, 2 and 3. Only the first is in stock for $39.99. The other 2 for HO, S scale and larger are out of stock and not shipping to Canada for some reason, but they may be available from a hobby store.
