Good morning all!

Currently 29 cold degrees heading up to 40 later today.

First snowfall last night. Not a lot, just a light dusting.

Have a safe day everyone!

Morning all,

While today is the last day at work for the week, tomorrow is going to be busy.
8:00a Physical Therapy
11:00a meeting with Tax advisor on how much of the now combined funds get moved to the Roth IRA
1:00p Wife has appointment with Audiologist (This one thrills me the most as I'm tired of repeating myself multiple times and getting deafened by the TV's up full blast)
Then we start getting stuff ready for Saturday's version of Thanksgiving.

Next week is shortened for me by a day and of the three I do work, I'm off at 3:00 instead of 5:00...

Good morning from a lightly dusted So. Central Wisconsin where we have the 1st seasonal white stuff showing on the grass. Rain, then slush per the weather app while we currently have 25f degrees heading to 41 and wind gusts are high 20mph.

Another tear down of a layout today. I’m just another pair of hands per the work sheet emailed last night. I am being listed as light duty “due to illness”. This tear down is not as ambitious as the last couple I was at a few weeks ago.

The Crew cab arrives here at 7:50 local time

Patrick, get used to the deafening TV volumes and repeating your self. Terry has been wearing hearing aides since 2019 and I’m constantly repeating myself. Just don’t talk louder when you repeat or you’ll be accused of yelling!

We are men! We just can’t win but when we do…

It's problematic enough not to be able to hear well, even with hearing aids, but when someone responds in an aggravated tone due to my disability as if I'm intentionally not hearing well. Eventually, I would just as soon not have that person around.
A friend of mine has hearing issues brought on during his active-duty days, listening to radio signals most of the day. Now, with his profound hearing loss and using hearing aids, when he asks his wife to repeat something, she leans into him, pronouncing each word slow and exaggerated and just dripping with contempt and a look of aggravation on her face. Makes him really want to carry on a conversation with her, NOT!!!

Good Morning All. Clear and 40°, should be near 70° today after a high of just 61° yesterday. NWS is still forecasting 80° for Sunday. No snow in our forecast. Today is the day of the average first frost for our area, but it is iffy. Might get into the mid-30's tonight, but overnight lows back into the 50's by Saturday.
Weekly grocery trek today along with the pharmacy. I'll be going alone and making it a quick trip so my wife can leave this afternoon for Dallas to take 15 year old grandson #2 to golf practice after school; and make him supper tonight and breakfast tomorrow morning. Parents and older brother are away visiting another college as part of his National Merit tour. Other daughter's family is out of town and cannot take care of it. He'll spend Friday night alone which he's done before.
Lineup for my family's Thanksgiving Day sit-down dinner includes 27 adults and 18 children, for a total of 45 people. And 12 more locals are not expected to make it. It will be hosted at my youngest brother's home. They borrow chairs and tables from their church's event center and clear out the living/dining area to set it all up. I'm thinking that this might be the last year of sit-down, as we have already switched Easter and Christmas to buffet style. Although last year's Thanksgiving was only 14 folks, the previous year when I hosted at my daughter's house it was 44. Looking forward to it as usual.

Christmas gifts: wife and I haven't really stopped giving to each other yet, but close. I usually go into her Amazon Wish List page that she fills out for the kids/grandkids, and pick out an item or two. Sometimes I intercept the package and wrap them, sometimes I send it to my daughter's home and she wraps it for me. Occasionally I just put a Ben Franklyn in an envelope and put it under the tree. She usually buys me something that she thinks that I should replace like new tee shirts or a kitchen gadget that's worn out.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I split my time between drilling holes to plant trees and painting figures. During the course of locating those Boy Scouts, I came across several figures that I had forgotten about. Decided to start dealing with them. I found a full sprue of Atlas figures that were at least from the 90's.

They seemed oversized even after I took the bases off, so I measured them.

Yep! They're all over 6' tall. I'll still use them either in groups with each other or cut down a bit and placed inside storefronts.
I also finished up Daisy on a bicycle that I got from Mini-Prints a while back.
But the picture is out of focus so I won't post it this morning.

Waste Management - I cancelled them about 18 months ago because they kept going up every month. Fuel surcharge was one reason, but not the only increase, even though the cost of fuel was coming down. They don't do contracts for rural customers. So I had the 3 yard dumpster removed and contracted with Frontier Waste for half of what I was paying WM. I think the real reason for the increases is because they no longer wanted my business since (according to the driver), we were 6 miles from the next closest customer. Frontier has at least 8 other customers within a 1.5 mile range.
Todd - Things are looking good with the helix.
Patrick - Hearing aids have been my best investment ever since I got them in 2013. Should have gotten them much earlier. However as Tom O posted, you will still be repeating yourself. Why??? Because those hearing aids amplify all of the other sounds along with your voice, especially in the car with the radio on.
If you don't already have Roth's, try to open two, one in each one of your names. That way you can invest twice as much since there is a limit. I have a problem in that we no longer have any earned income, so I can't rollover the RMD's from other accounts into Roth's. But I don't have to take an RMD from any of our Roth accounts.

Everyone have a wonderful and safe Thursday.

My wife thought my hearing aids were for tinnitus only. That was the excuse I had to pound in. She's got a complex that her family members can't have handicaps, syndromes, etc... But she's come around on the hearing aids and realizes I really cannot hear well.

I strongly suspect that the daughter and I both fall on the autism spectrum. But to the wife, it's an all or nothing syndrome. So I don't mention it, and just try to be aware of my behavior/reactions.

In other news, I picked up the sleep study device this morning. roads were clear despite the wintry weather here.

Wife did say she wants to go to Kohls (big box clothing store) tonight to use up her bonus cash there. It expires today, so sure. I'm guessing we'll hit the steakhouse we like (Logans).

Two chapters written yesterday. More to follow today.

IT's 27 here and if I was a kid still in SoCal, I would be waking up everyone in the house, telling them it was snowing...in actuality it just a powder dusting here; but in theory it is snowing. I'm still like a kid, I like the snow. Winter is my favorite season, No grass to cut, no weeds to pull. Just snow to push aside so Carlie can go outside and potty.(unlike our other dogs, she hates the snow). Charlie our Cavalier King Charles loved it. He would play snow plow in the snow.

I removed a lot of buildings from my layout when I did my reverse loop removal and I am paying the price for placing dust covers over them on a table in the computer room. A lot of details got broke off; but the outcome was worth it. I can actually room a train over the entire course of my layout. No more reverse loops for me, ever.

Joan's got in-home therapy today, and I need a haircut, so I will go spend 20 bucks on what use to be a dollar haircut. I decided that we will not have a turkey dinner for Thanksgiving, A nice ham steak with her home made (by me, this year) cranberry sauce, stuffing and and some green beans we canned from last year. Joan is eating like a bird, and I can't see spending around 100 bucks for a dinner for just her and me...I really don't find much use for turkey. Joan is stirring around so it's time to start the day.

Yesterday when I woke up it was 25F. This morning it is 36F. Supposed to be high 50s todat and every day through Saturday (Saturday a couple degrees lower). Then 4 days of rain and/or frozen mix is the guess by the weather guesser app. And highs in the low to mid 40s. Reaching way out it stays low 40 and high 30s but gets back to partly cloudy or sunny and then more "chance of frozen mix". Winter is slowly trying to show up. We had 1/2" to 1" of snow a week ago but it was gone the next morning.

Good Afternoon All!
36F @ 90% with 4" new white on ground. Trees have sagging branches and we already had a power bump; maybe 1/4 second. Got the cook stove emptied and going just to test stuff out. Works great!

Think we are going to do a road trip to Orofino, ID tomorrow to visit trucking friend down there. About 6 hours down and so far the roads look like they are OkieDokie. Will check early in the AM for the final decision.

Geesh - just down-graded my CDL and renewed license on-line. Took about 10 minutes and cost $16.83; is good until Dec 2027.

Later

Today's change in our 401k and HSA self-directed portfolio at Schwab today showed a positive increase of $666

I wonder if this is a bad omen?

(We have two self directed accounts, one for 401k and one for HSA and both are at Schwab on the same control panel so this was the combined portfolio change today)
