Good Morning All. Clear and 40°, should be near 70° today after a high of just 61° yesterday. NWS is still forecasting 80° for Sunday. No snow in our forecast. Today is the day of the average first frost for our area, but it is iffy. Might get into the mid-30's tonight, but overnight lows back into the 50's by Saturday.
Weekly grocery trek today along with the pharmacy. I'll be going alone and making it a quick trip so my wife can leave this afternoon for Dallas to take 15 year old grandson #2 to golf practice after school; and make him supper tonight and breakfast tomorrow morning. Parents and older brother are away visiting another college as part of his National Merit tour. Other daughter's family is out of town and cannot take care of it. He'll spend Friday night alone which he's done before.
Lineup for my family's Thanksgiving Day sit-down dinner includes 27 adults and 18 children, for a total of 45 people. And 12 more locals are not expected to make it. It will be hosted at my youngest brother's home. They borrow chairs and tables from their church's event center and clear out the living/dining area to set it all up. I'm thinking that this might be the last year of sit-down, as we have already switched Easter and Christmas to buffet style. Although last year's Thanksgiving was only 14 folks, the previous year when I hosted at my daughter's house it was 44. Looking forward to it as usual.
Christmas gifts: wife and I haven't really stopped giving to each other yet, but close. I usually go into her Amazon Wish List page that she fills out for the kids/grandkids, and pick out an item or two. Sometimes I intercept the package and wrap them, sometimes I send it to my daughter's home and she wraps it for me. Occasionally I just put a Ben Franklyn in an envelope and put it under the tree. She usually buys me something that she thinks that I should replace like new tee shirts or a kitchen gadget that's worn out.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I split my time between drilling holes to plant trees and painting figures. During the course of locating those Boy Scouts, I came across several figures that I had forgotten about. Decided to start dealing with them. I found a full sprue of Atlas figures that were at least from the 90's.
They seemed oversized even after I took the bases off, so I measured them.
Yep! They're all over 6' tall. I'll still use them either in groups with each other or cut down a bit and placed inside storefronts.
I also finished up Daisy on a bicycle that I got from Mini-Prints a while back.
But the picture is out of focus so I won't post it this morning.
Waste Management - I cancelled them about 18 months ago because they kept going up every month. Fuel surcharge was one reason, but not the only increase, even though the cost of fuel was coming down. They don't do contracts for rural customers. So I had the 3 yard dumpster removed and contracted with Frontier Waste for half of what I was paying WM. I think the real reason for the increases is because they no longer wanted my business since (according to the driver), we were 6 miles from the next closest customer. Frontier has at least 8 other customers within a 1.5 mile range.
Todd - Things are looking good with the helix.
Patrick - Hearing aids have been my best investment ever since I got them in 2013. Should have gotten them much earlier. However as
Tom O posted, you will still be repeating yourself. Why??? Because those hearing aids amplify all of the other sounds along with your voice, especially in the car with the radio on.
If you don't already have Roth's, try to open two, one in each one of your names. That way you can invest twice as much since there is a limit. I have a problem in that we no longer have any earned income, so I can't rollover the RMD's from other accounts into Roth's. But I don't have to take an RMD from any of our Roth accounts.
Everyone have a wonderful and safe Thursday.
