well its november

i dont get that Halloween stuff (iam from switzerland) i mean they also do it here, but i still dont get it. Can maybe a american person explain what it was really about? Why do they celebrate Halloween?
This is a good article to get an answer.
"...Halloween took root in the U.S. sometime around the 19th century, when the Irish immigrated to America, bringing their traditions and celebrations, including All Saints’ Day, with them."

Rabbit Rabbit

The Image generator was hallucinating this morning. Better give it a Coffee IV.

I'm not sure if it took the "cozy mystery style" I requested, and interpreted that as Sci-Fi style Jurassic Park (out of the window) or a bit of Salvadore Dali (train inside a train)

Nothing hot planned today.

Here's a fun vid if you've got an hour to kill. British Toy TV presenter James May decided to challenge some of his German Toy Train enthusiasts to race down a real 10 miles of OO gauge track. Will James' replica Flying Scotsman (with realistic chuffing sounds, make it this time?) Will the German's idea of "alternative energy" for one of the trains beat the saurkraut out of Jame's ducted fan model? Will the Hornby Special commuter win the tortoise and hare middle race? Tune in to find out!

Good morning, gang and happy November.

All the little gals and goblins have gone and yet we still have candy left. Not as many as years before, but still a decent amount. The grandkids came over and proud our neighborhood and got a good amount of candy themselves. It was warm enough that we were able to sit out in the driveway and hand out candy from there.

Weatherwise this morning, it is 63° with light. Drizzle expected that to stop in about an hour. Daytime high today 76° chili weather is expected for the weekend and the following week. This was summers last hurrah.

Good morning all. A cloudy day with rain forecast later.

Halloween.
I was told at school that Halloween was Eve of All Saints Day. To thank Nature for the past year and for warmth and comfort over Winter. People celebrating the old and looking forward to the new. Children would act little plays or sing; being rewarded with small treats.

The elaborate dressing up and decorations of today is people finding a way to alter a tradition to make them money. Trick or treating by children is instead of singing or play acting.

It is Birthday Party Time for two of our grandchildren. (Birthdays are 1st and 4th November.) This evening is the only time we can get everybody together, hence the party.

My interpretation is what Bill and David posted, "Hallowed Eve" of All Saints Day today, November 1. I am Irish Catholic and was taught by Irish nuns in school (3 different ones in 3 different cities) for many years. Coincidence, not intentional by my parents. Seems that all nuns were Irish in the 50's and 60's.

There are 24 hours in a day, divided into 24 time zones around the world. Just because it isn't November yet in your train room doesn't mean it isn't November in most of the rest of the world.
What Terry is really trying to say is that it was November somewhere and he wanted to go to bed so he could get up early today so he went ahead and opened up the coffee shop. Kind of on the lines of that Alan Jackson song it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.

Things change and lose their original meaning when entrepreneurs want to 'make a fast buck'. The amount of merchandise on sale for Halloween and 'must have' (according to experts?) is ridiculous. (I wonder what made them experts?)
Ah well. Now we have 'Bonfire Night' here in the U.K. on the 5th November. Another original tradition that has changed to another meaning.

What I was REALLY trying to say was I started the new coffee shop before someone in Europe started one because it was November there. And if anybody other than a staff member starts a thread, and that person is on someone’s ignore list, the ignorers will go the entire month without ever seeing the coffee shop.
