For 53' trailers, check out Bowser (http://bowser-trains.com/hocars/hwtrail/hwtrail.htm). I also have most of them available on my site (http://www.sushob.com/home.php?cat=305).

Cool find @ wal mart I stopped in after work tonite, browsed the toy section, its still not fully stocked, but they have set out some new stuff. A new line called 'For Sale' they have different models, I picked up a 56 F100. all primer, mismatched color, some body damage. Pretty cool!

I'll grab a picture tmw.

Well the vehicle toy aisle is looking rather sparse these days, sold out of most everything. But there were two new boxes worth looking at. They finally got a box of the 1:87 cherries. I cleaned out all the Ford Escorts since they look so similar to the Toyotas and Hondas of the time as well. I also grabbed one of each color of the Pacers, Gremlins, and Pinto's. There also was a box of the Norscot Construction Minis that I pluck a coupler bulldozers and a couple of the N scale size excavators (future E-bay fodder). I saw some of the "For Sale" vehicles someone else mentioned, but these were a much larger scale (1:64?). So Scott, are saying they will also come in 1:87 as well as the larger scale like the Fresh Cherries models?

Ted, from what I've heard, yes. I have not yet seen the For Sale or Fresh Cherries here, besides the 1:32 (IIRC) sized ones. :( I'll keep watching, I cleared out two cases of the vans, we still got 10 (cases) more!

Being new to model railroading I really can't contribute much on the how to etc. on those. When it comes to car and truck models though I see ton's of those at the old car swap meets. Any size, color you can dream of, new and used. Ton's of used ones sitting in boxes at many booths. The small match box and smaller cars like the 1/87 usually sell used for about .50 to $1.00 each, sometimes 4 for a dollar. You can usually find any make or model toy car or truck you want there. Some are plastic, some are die cast and some are rubber. So if you see an old car swap meet in the spring through fall in your area, you might want to take a look. You'll find them at the larger swap meets for the most part. Sorry up to this point I never checked the prices of the new 1/87 scale models because I like the 1/24th and 1/18th scales for my car display cabinets and shelves. Guess I'll have to start looking at the 1/87 scale ones now too.

While there are tons and tons of these pocket sized toy cars, size is the issue. Very few of them are made in 1:87 scale (HO scale). Most of the Matchbox and Hot Wheels type vehicles are in scales like 1:64, 1:72, or 1:32, and are much too large for use with our HO scale items. Price could be another issue, while there are more 1:87 vehicles being produced specificly for the model railroad market, thier prices generally come in around $10 each. That's why these $1.97 vehicles from Wal-Mart are such a hot topic. Time to go look for some 1:87 "For Sale" cars on E-bay now, just to see what's availble and what they look like.

I'm still trying to dig up info on this Japanese toy line, but they seem to have a lot of HO scale sized japanese vehicles, including several US exports in thier lineup. Here is an example below. The brand name is Futura.

Dang, these futura cars seem too small. There are about the size of some Tomica capsule cars I got a while back, about 1:100th scale. It's really too bad since they look good and there are so many kinds of vehicles. The images in this auction take a while to load, but you can see how detailed the vehicles are for thier size.

I just placed a penny next to one of my cars and the size matches, time to buy!

One auction I saw said most of the Furuta cars were 1:144, but another seller said they were in the 1:89 - 1:90 range. Do a search for 'Furuta' (not 'Futura') and you get quite a few hits.

Yeah, was just coming back to post that!

EDIT one of the sellers list measurements, so I bid on 5 different ones, for $.99 each. If I win some, we'll see how they scale out.

Oh, if your E-bay ID is "Mustangs 1995" I may have outbid you on one of them. I bought two vehicles, the Nissan Pathfinder shown above and a Nissian skyline. I'm buying them to see how they compare, so I will know if buying the lots of the vehicles is worth it.

I also just noticed a european line of 1:87 vehicles, trucks and tractors. It's prices are reasonable, but not quite down to the mass buying level kind of prices you can find at Wal-Mart. Check out this link for some of thier stuff.

Not show is a line of John Deer equipment and a modern Mini Cooper. I believe the line is based in Britain, but I'm not sure of it.

Nope, not me Ted, still have 5 bids out. :p If you get yours before I get mine, please post on the comparison, then I'll know how well spent this money was. I bid on an RX7, AE86 ('86 Corolla), Supra, Skyline Coupe (R35), and a Previa (minivan). I still want the R32 & R34 Skylines, and the RX8.

That 3000 Toys collection is quite nice isn't it!

Also just heard that more models have been added to the Malibu line including a Cadilliac El Derado and a Land Rover. These are already in the stores, so check often!

This thread is probably just going to keep going until the end of time. But I did get my Furuta cars today. As I suspected that are just a tad underscale, something like 1:92. But they work great in a background scene, particularly if they are placed with each other. Just avoid the minivans, as they are more underscaled than the rest. The sedans where the body comes in two parts are the closest to HO scale. I plan to get some more. Here are the pics.
