We all know Willie only paints in 1:87 scale. I wish I could be like him because painting is messy most of the time. That being said, I had to finish up the backdrops. It took me 2 days of painting all day, but I got them all done except a section on the lower deck.

Willie, those are NEM pockets so Kadee NEM 362 will fit, you'll, probably have to use the offset's, as the height will be slightly different, but it will run on your layout.

The wagon is actually German, and was in service 1920-1960, the majority were open goods wagons, with the guards or brakeman's hut/shelter fitted to the chassis, covered wagons had the arrangement you have with the brake/guard shelter elevated so he could see and signal the engine if required and vice versa.
Except it is Austrian not German. Post war livery.

Good evening. 64°, partly cloudy right now. Made it up to 68° this afternoon. Finished and E-filed my Federal taxes last night. Even with our health insurance premiums, and drug co-pays factored in, my itemized deductions were 3k less than the itemized amount. $741 back. Not sure what I will do with my windfall .

Market was mostly up at the close, and oil was down 27% at one point. Right now, Per CNBC, the "Futures" are down ahead of tomorrow's FED meeting.

Did more experimenting with the "escape" track. Today I fit a consist of two SD35s plus a PRR N5 Cabin on the tail track. Need to try a pair of U boats, and a couple of big Alcos before I fasten down the track.

These two bad boys haven't been on the road for a few years, while their out I should give them a little care, and then run them.

The Livery is Austrian, (Although Heineken is/was Dutch) wagon is German.

Open Goods wagon

yes the manufacturer of the wagon is German. But it is still an Austrian wagon. :)

What is interesting about the top German example is that it seems to be a post WW2 livery from before the establishment of West Germany and the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB), the West German railway system. It sports the DR (Deutsche Reichsbahn) that would have been during the war and after the war until the split (and East Germany kept the name for their railroad for legal reasons so DR existed up until 1994 when it merged with DB and DB was privatized sometime in that same time frame as Deutsche Bahn, still DB).

What is interesting about the wagon in the picture is that it has Karlsruhe as it’s home base station and it says “Zone Fr” above that, which I think means the “French Zone of occupation” from after WW2 and before West Germany was established. Karlsruhe is in the Extreme West Part of S Germany near the French border I believe. I’ve been through their main station many times in Karlsruhe including transfers but never went into the city.

Good Morning All. Beware the Ides of March! Clear and 47° here. We continue our great spring weather here, highs in the upper 60's-mid 70's and lows in the upper 40's. Sure looks like a full moon out there, but it's not actually until Friday. Thunderstorm last night was almost non-existent, barely got the car wet. Some hail about 30 miles east of us.

This morning brings to me a follow-up visit with my doctor for the nagging pneumonia that I have had since late-January. I actually started feeling a bit better in the last 4-5 days, but I still have not regained full stamina. I have been walking about a quarter mile a day now, hoping to get up to a half mile by this weekend. Back to my regular full mile by months end. Breathing is much improved, shortness of breath is now minimal. I only used the prescription inhaler once yesterday. I did read on the Internet that recovery is normally between 6 weeks and 6 months. I am hoping for the 6 weeks.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments yesterday; Tom O, Guy, Chad, Patrick, Karl, Hughie, Moermusic, George, Louis, Gary, Smudge, Tom, Sherrel, Lee, OB Ken.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I only added some ground foam to another small blank area. Slowly making progress.
I took a few pictures of a rail car from Europe yesterday. My BIL gave me this for Christmas after he saw in in a hobby shop in Ohio. The clerk assured him that it would work on HO track, but that was all. It cannot be fit with any couplers that I have, but I like the car anyway. It is a product of Brawa and represents a German railcar from around 1905.

From what I have read, that's a brakeman shanty on the top of the car.

Todd - I also grill in the wintertime quite regularly. I don't use the smoker as much though. Rain is the only thing that stops me as my porch is not covered. I can and have used an umbrella, but I cannot put the cover back on the grill until it cools off and I'm usually in bed by then!
Tom O - I'll have to see what I can do about another overall shot of the layout. Regarding how much room that I have left, there is approximately 1/3 of the layout with no structures or scenery; just main line and passing sidings running through it. I am intentionally not developing it yet because I really want to finish the scenery gaps elsewhere. About 25% of the unfinished area is going to be a staging/classification yard and all of the track is laid. Another 20% is going to be dedicated to an Ethanol processor and most of that track is laid. I switch it out already with no structures or scenery present. Most structures have been purchased and I have posted several builds recently. I do still need to obtain some more. I still have gaps in the other 2/3 of the layout. I have some kits that I will never use; my son gave me a wooden coaling tower for Christmas a few years ago.
Steve J - My daughter and family installed Smart Bulbs a couple of years ago, but the novelty of changing colors wore off pretty quickly. Grandsons still occasionally do it to impress friends and relatives.
Guy - I intend to be rather selective about the Miniprint figures. I just don't need any "novelty" figures, mummies, Fred the Sock etc.. I like the armadillos and coyotes though.
Greg - Sorry to read of your issues with ScaleTrains. I have only purchased "Rivet Counters" or "Operators" and I am very satisfied with them. I have 13 and the only issue was a broken horn on one of them, which was replaced immediately.
Gary - Impressive boat. Keep the pictures coming.

Everybody have an awesome day.
Nice looking car Wille. I have several old Airfix ones like this one. Thanks for sharing

Good afternoon, by the way.

Flo - I will take a cup of coffee, hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon. Eggs however you like, surprise me!

Willie - Thanks for the tip on fire starting. Also, the Heineken box car, looks cool and I am always intrigued by the little room at the end of their freight cars

Patrick - whenever I see the word firmware in a post I know it's you

Lee - Great semi tractor/trailer collection

TomO - I checked out the Miniprints figures. They are nice, however modern era. I purchased a lot of neat figures for the older era from Fun N Games.

Here is an interesting "modern" railroading development, icing the refrigerator car mechanically. The truck is an old IH, something we used to call a "binder", because IH made one of the first corn binders, a lot of us country folk began calling their vehicles that.

Dave thanks for the complement and I like that Ice loading International thanks for sharing

Good evening everyone. Been cleaning and sorting out all my HO scale stuff I think I’m making progress then I open another storage tub then it becomes another evening to sort out that one not that I’m complaining I’m happy I was Bless with this stuff in this time of my life the Mid 50s instead of trying to buy this stuff now it’s so expensive glad I bought it when I did. A long time ago a old Model Railroader once said “Buy Big Ticket items when your young then when your old and on a fixed income you don’t have to worry about it”. I took that to heart and did just that. Enough of that here a video I made after I got tired of cleaning. Some of the Piggyback cars I painted but didn’t decal them yet the RailBox car was Custom Painted and Decaled by me as well as the Scannell Piggyback trailer. Someday I’ll do a overview on my Custom Piggyback Trailers. Good night all God Bless and be safe.

Aw yeah, I finally got this little Rivarossi beaut back to 100%. We found this, abandoned, in my club's member storage area. Club is really hurting for geared steam power so I claimed it on behalf of the club (after three months trying to shake up an owner).

Just needed a new driveshaft for the 3rd truck. Has ESU V3 with an awesome sound package. Real nice whistle!

She'll look perfectly at home here:

I asked my doctors about supplements, they told me not to bother.

Just remember, doctors are not schooled in nutrition. They are schooled in pharmaceuticals. Most doctors know nothing about nutrition and supplements.

There are a ton of garbage and useless supplements, but there are also a lot of useful ones. Research any supplement yourself and see if there are studies or other useful information. Then ask your doctor if it will interfere with any medications you may be taking. Don't ask him/her if it will do any good as they don't know and so will most likely just punt and say "no".

There are some doctors who have made the effort to learn about supplements and nutrition and use them as part of their treatments. Most don't, they just punt.

I agree on the whole doctor and nutrition training. The MedCram channel I mentioned earlier has a balanced approach.

Having several chronic conditions including pancreatitis and kidney disease makes my situation complex. I trust my team of doctors more than anything I might learn myself.
It would take me some time to list all the specialists I have seen. Board certified, Johns Hopkins graduates many of them, including nutritionists.
I was offered hospice care almost 20 years ago. It got so bad the Board Certified doctor of internal medicine told me " eat what ever you want", she punted. I ate mostly hotdogs. I think stopping that crazy low salt, low everything, no taste chicken nightmare saved my life!
After admitting me to the hospital for what they thought was a heart attack. They found out I need high levels of salt and potassium extremely high. My heart was fine and still is. God knows, we are all different.
After hitting bottom and slowly improving they even agreed I should not quit smoking. They were afraid upsetting my slow improvement. They thought I would not live long enough to get cancer.
Now they tell me I could expect another ten years with my conditions and they want me to quit smoking! Seems what I have been doing has been working. I even returned to working after almost 10 years on the bench. I'd bet I got a lot more than 10 years left. I work a few hours almost everyday. At one point I could not walk 50 yards, even with a walker. I don't even use a cane anymore and I can make 100 yards.
I think the best advice any of the nutritionists gave me was to make half of my diet vegetables. Easy enough, I love vegetables! I eat more variety now, less hotdogs.
Honest to God I have seen doctors scratch their head after my after studying my records.
Hopkins recommend me to a study at NIH about 10 years ago. They come to my house once a year and interview me, take blood and urine. I'm not sure what the study is. Hopkins told me it might help them help someone else and they pay me! I sarcastically think they are just trying to figure out why I'm still alive.
As a Catholic I have had my last rites three times.
Many doctors have told me I don't fit into any profile, I'm a mystery.
I call it the mystery of faith. I believe my faith is why I'm here. But I don't test God, I do as the doctors tell me.
Sometimes punting is still the best defensive strategy.

Morning all,

While the pork looked good (tasted good) it wasn't the cut I was expecting. Hoping to be able to get slices like ham, was a mess of smaller multi-directional muscles. I ended up making it as pulled pork, which is now in the freezer, waiting for a quick meal on another day. Turkey today...

Ok, figured out how to post pictures from the phone...
Pork:

Turkey:

Ok, started cutting the turkey before I thought to get pictures. Turkey has been sampled and half has been already frozen for another day.

Louis: Basically any fruit or nut wood makes for great smoking wood. Each has it's own flavor. Peach does well with pork as well.
