Good Morning All. Clear skies and 64°. A bit more humid this morning than normal, at 89%, but that won't last long once the sun gets a little higher in the sky. No changes in the forecast, mild and dry, which is a little odd since October is usually a wet month for us.
Not a lot going on here on the SFW estate. I mowed a little yesterday, stacked some firewood, burned some trash and removed the one window A/C unit that I take out every winter. I'll head for church here in a little while before doing some more mowing this afternoon.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I ran trains once again. Also over at the workbench, I proceeded to weather those three freight cars that I decaled Friday. Ooops! I broke a part off the Fruit Growers boxcar.
Dried glue indicated that it had been attached before, this time I used super glue. This is a very old Accurail car, as indicated by the friction pin holding the truck on. But it still works so I didn't bother changing it to a screw.
As I have previously posted, I only lightly weather my cars, no "rust buckets" on my layout. I use AIM weathering powders, since that was the brand that my LHS carried when I first switched from powdered chalk to weathering powders.
Then the second car. A Woodchip hopper made by E & C Shops. I bought these at a hobby shop in Lewisville TX, but when I went back by a few months later, they were shut down.
One reason that I picked this car and it's sister car was because 3 of the 4 stirrup steps are missing. I have some from A-Line that are almost identical that I am going to install. Not exact but nearly so. If I don't like the look, I can always shave the remaining one off and make all 4 the same. The other car has all 4 steps but I didn't have time yesterday to weather it.
Patrick - I make my roadways a bit narrow to save space, 2-lane roads are 18' and 4-lane are 36'. They look OK with scale vehicles. I even have a few with 8' lanes that run parallel to the layout aisle, since the perspective is different and no one is any wiser.
Mac - That Western Maryland #1309 sure is a complex looking beast. Nice pictures.
Louis - FWIW I didn't see anything political in your post, you didn't mention any political party or name any names.
Guitarist Steve Miller is 82 today. He lived in Dallas for a while and went to high school there. In the late 60's, I saw him play at several free anti-war concerts at Lee Park when I was in high school. Saw him a few more times later when I had to pay.
Everyone have a great day today.
