Lots of baseball to watch!

The Yankees starting pitchers have caught my attention. Give Yankees' manager Aaron Boone some credit for showing brass to let them pitch into the sixth inning and beyond.

How cool was it to see the Yankees' rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler pitch 8 scoreless innings in an elimination game in front of a sold-out crowd in Yankee Stadium? I saw this young man earlier in the year baffle my birds with his impressive repertoire of pitches. I knew the Red Sox were facing a serious challenge.

Cam has three variations of the fastball: four-seam, two-seam, and a cutter. All at or approaching 100mph and to make them even more baffling he varies how he uses each one. Worst yet, they all look the same coming out of the same arm slot! The two-seamer moves east, the cutter moves west, and the four-seam appears to rise. If that is not enough he then mixes in a curveball and a sweeper to complete his baffling arsenal. He is the perfect example of good pitching beats good hitting. When he has command of his pitches, forget about it! Your only hope is that your pitcher can match him.

Pure heat is one thing, heat and east west movement with changing speeds is something altogether different. Some guys you don't look forward to stepping into the batter's box to face, Cam is one of those guys.

Have I mentioned how much I love baseball?

Thank God for the DVR, I can catch up with the NFL later.

Good morning all!

The warm weather will continue again today. Currently 60F heading up to 88F.

A very hectic day today! Have another all day volleyball tournament. Last one of the season, thank-goodness!. To top it all off Homecoming
is tonight. After we get done with volleyball, we have to rush home so my daughter can get ready and be out at the park for pictures at 4:30.
Not sure how we are going to pull all this off. At least the tournament is at home, so that's one plus.

That's pretty much going to be my day, no time for anything else!

Have a safe day everyone!

Good afternoon all. After a stormy night all is calm.
Daughter was caught in the bad weather returning from Vienna. She had to stay overnight in Amsterdam, catching the early flight home today. Dawn was worried for her. All is well now.

Flo. I know it is after midday, but I need a large coffee please.
Feels so strange, worrying about the baby in the womb, then their born and the worries intensifies. As they grow you watch every cut, scrape, cold, fever, laugh, sorrows and joys. Then they are adults and we still worry about them no matter the age. It’s what parents do…

Glad all is well

Good morning from Wisconsin. 63f degrees now 88 later, love it!

Hockey last night on campus as the Women opened the home portion of the season and raised the 2025 NCAA Championship banner. I thought the Maine Bears were a class act. They came out and stood at their bench during the ceremony and even tapped their sticks on the ice. That is a show of respect in hockey. The past 2 banners raising ceremonies the other team stayed in the locker room. Badgers won 5-0 that easily could have been double digits. The Maine goalie did every thing but stand on her head in a 1st period shut out and played great the rest of the game. The Badgers just wore the Bears out with their relentless speed, talent and constant pressure.

I did start the weathering process with a fade with Tamiya x21 Flat Base on my Wisconsin Interstate 4022. It’s over in CambriaArea51 Weathering Engines a Continuous thread. Lots of nice work over in Tom’s thread

More hockey on Campus at 1pm this afternoon.

Some work this morning on the layout is forecasted. I added the Blue Point switch machines now I will build the 3 switches around them. I also might work on some weathering to a yellow TBOX 60’ high cube I started the other day. The roof, trucks, wheels and couplers are done minus touch ups. The body is faded and the graffiti decals are picked out, maybe this morning. If I do the graffiti this morning I probably can finish the weathering Sunday. It’s one of mine…

Enjoy the day

63°F/61°F this morning at 0755. Heading for 87°F, but probably 85°F in the local area. Fortunately, days are getting shorter and the peak temp of the day only lasts an hour or so before falling again.

Nothing planned for today. I was going to cut the grass one more time this year, but it can wait until Monday since it's not growing much anymore this season.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

I’m torn between rooting for the Cubs (grew up in Chicago) or the Brewers ( basically lived in Wisconsin 53 years). But either way until a deciding game I probably will not watch the actions

Gee, how could we ever figure out you love baseball? Very happy for you that your passion has never gone away like mine has for most sports but hockey

Tom, I lost much of my passion for MLB in the 90s when the Orioles were trying to buy a championship and steroids were ruining the integrity game. At the time I was coaching little league baseball. I was much happier with the young people playing for the love of the game.

Unbelievably the fourteen consecutive years of the Orioles losing rekindled my love for MLB. That and the crackdown on steroids. I genuinely enjoy watching young players develop and nothing is better than a pitcher's duel! The game today often reminds me of baseball in the 60s when the pitchers dominated the game.

I felt bad for the Red Sox rookie starter Connelly Early in the deciding game of the Red Sox and Yankees series. He didn't pitch bad, he should have only had only 2ERs, but the Red Sox played sloppy defense behind him. Often when that happens a young pitcher will try to strike everybody out.

I can't wait for the use of electronic strike zones next year. Nothing gets into a young pitcher's head more than a bad call at a crucial moment.

As Yogi said "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical" As crazy as that sounds it is absolutely true!

A friend just told me Chicago and Milwaukee are only about an hour and a half drive from each other. I'll bet you aren't the only one who can't decide who to root for.

I really don't care who wins, the Padres are out of it, sorry Sherrel. And the $334 million+ Mets must buy a ticket to see a game. The Big Money Phillies and the even bigger money Dodgers might wear each other's bullpen down before the NL Championship even begins. Which could open the door for the winner of the Cubs and Brewers series, I can hope! 😁

I just want to see some good old school baseball!

Woops, tried to reply to Signal or Relay boxes... [Edit]

And that depends on where in the USofA. Out in the great northwest, Bungalow's: Electrical, Relay and/or Signal could be added before... Might be a naming difference between the boxes ( which ever ) up here that you can actually get into and close door vs sitting on bucket looking in the front. Size matters too which depends on track complexity. For instance, Napa Street ( Spokane ) has a 8'x10'(ish) bungalow that controls all the stuff there. UP, BNSF and the Kettle Turn all merge within a few hundred feet, although the Kettle Turn is not allowed on the Main. That runs up to Yardley at Havana Street.

The Brewers getting to the World Series and honoring Bob Uecker’s wish and legacy would be great. It’s always tough shaking of the old hometown teams though

Good Morning All. Clear and 63° to start our day here. Nothing new in our boring forecast...which is OK! I am having to water some young trees though.

Home alone again until Sunday. Wife took the Lexus to the dealer yesterday for free service and is staying at daughter's house and seeing some kind of dance recital today. She no longer drives at night, so she's waiting until Sunday to return. I think that I'll re-arrange some of the art on the walls to surprise her. We have extras since she did oil painting in the 80's-90's, while being a stay at home mom; and my Dad took up painting before retiring. I received 7 or 8 oil paintings when he passed away. She does water colors now. Same tasks and chores around the estate, I cut a few more branches yesterday for firewood, today I will haul them to the stack. I have about a dozen large logs to split, so I'm planning to do 2 of them today.

Somewhat lazy day out in the train shed yesterday. I'm still trying out my new SD40-2's in different lash-ups and with different running scenarios. I think that I will dedicate one pair for local switching. ATSF used them for that in the late-80's, while they still did switching around here. Over at the workbench, I changed directions and grabbed 3 freight cars to weather. I haven't done any weathering in nearly a year that I can recall. I don't do any heavy weathering, and I don't get as detailed as the folks posting in Tom O's weathering thread. Matter of fact, I probably haven't gotten the air-brush out in close to 5 years. Yesterday, I just added graffiti decals to one side of those 3 cars. I only decal one side since only one side is ever visible on the layout. I do weather both sides though. Then I sprayed dull coat over them, the cars got their own overcoat initially to remove the shine when I put them on the layout years ago. Drying overnight. Two woodchip hoppers and a boxcar.

1759587467992.jpeg

1759587480723.jpeg

Nothing special, but I did get all four decals on straight and upside right.
Next up will be painting and weathering the trucks, the boxcar's are already painted. Then I will use weathering powders and "old school" chalk on the rest of the cars surfaces. I'll look at some pictures over on the photo sites and may use some dry-brushing as well; depends on what seems appropriate.

David - Best wishes for Dawn.
Swal - I like those graffiti decals from Blair Line. Easy to use. I have also used some from someone named Dave, if I am remembering the name correctly. His are good as well. But the LHS just stocks the Blair Line ones. I used the Blair Line ones on the above freight cars.
Jaz - While one would think that fooling the scanner at Sam's Club would be easy, I am not sure that they would have implemented it without testing. You have to walk out and go through a big scanner, like a metal detector except bigger, and it flags any suspicious customer to the attendant at the door who visually hand checks.
every aisle is littered with part eaten or drunk food, people pick it up meal deals etc shop and eat or drink and dump the ‘empties’ before they reach the tills
I don't see this in any of the stores that I visit. Most of the single serving stuff is really several packed together in a rather indestructible container. Or maybe the stores that I visit have a higher class of shoppers than the ones in the big city.
Terry -
Supposedly that was a way they caught German and Italian spies during wwII, they would observe them eating with utensils.
Around here we can identify folks from the North when they eat their fried chicken with utensils!

Everyone have a wonderful Saturday today.
