Have a great day!![]()
Such a lot of lineside scenery too for references. Seeing what you see and not what you thought you saw.It is a shame that they are left to rot, but the signal boxes are great reference for weathering
Feels so strange, worrying about the baby in the womb, then their born and the worries intensifies. As they grow you watch every cut, scrape, cold, fever, laugh, sorrows and joys. Then they are adults and we still worry about them no matter the age. It’s what parents do…Good afternoon all. After a stormy night all is calm.
Daughter was caught in the bad weather returning from Vienna. She had to stay overnight in Amsterdam, catching the early flight home today. Dawn was worried for her. All is well now.
Flo. I know it is after midday, but I need a large coffee please.
To quote a famous rabbit:"Yikes!"Good morning all!
The warm weather will continue again today. Currently 60F heading up to 88F.
A very hectic day today! Have another all day volleyball tournament. Last one of the season, thank-goodness!. To top it all off Homecoming
is tonight. After we get done with volleyball, we have to rush home so my daughter can get ready and be out at the park for pictures at 4:30.
Not sure how we are going to pull all this off. At least the tournament is at home, so that's one plus.
That's pretty much going to be my day, no time for anything else!
Have a safe day everyone!
What you call signal boxes are called "towers" here. Signal boxes here are generally a square-ish metal box about the size of a tool shed that contains electricals and switches/relays.It is a shame that they are left to rot, but the signal boxes are great reference for weathering
I’m torn between rooting for the Cubs (grew up in Chicago) or the Brewers ( basically lived in Wisconsin 53 years). But either way until a deciding game I probably will not watch the actionsMajor League Baseball announced on Friday the rest of the broadcast schedule for all the National League and American League Division Series presented by Booking.com. Lots of baseball to watch!
The Yankees starting pitchers have caught my attention. Give Yankees' manager Aaron Boone some credit for showing brass to let them pitch into the sixth inning and beyond.
How cool was it to see the Yankees' rookie pitcher Cam Schlittler pitch 8 scoreless innings in an elimination game in front of a sold-out crowd in Yankee Stadium? I saw this young man earlier in the year baffle my birds with his impressive repertoire of pitches. I knew the Red Sox were facing a serious challenge.
Cam has three variations of the fastball: four-seam, two-seam, and a cutter. All at or approaching 100mph and to make them even more baffling he varies how he uses each one. Worst yet, they all look the same coming out of the same arm slot! The two-seamer moves east, the cutter moves west, and the four-seam appears to rise. If that is not enough he then mixes in a curveball and a sweeper to complete his baffling arsenal. He is the perfect example of good pitching beats good hitting. When he has command of his pitches, forget about it! Your only hope is that your pitcher can match him.
Pure heat is one thing, heat and east west movement with changing speeds is something altogether different. Some guys you don't look forward to stepping into the batter's box to face, Cam is one of those guys.
Have I mentioned how much I love baseball?
Thank God for the DVR, I can catch up with the NFL later.
We call them Relay Boxes. What you call signal boxes are called "towers" here. Signal boxes here are generally a square-ish metal box about the size of a tool shed that contains electricals and switches/relays.
Tom, I lost much of my passion for MLB in the 90s when the Orioles were trying to buy a championship and steroids were ruining the integrity game. At the time I was coaching little league baseball. I was much happier with the young people playing for the love of the game.Gee, how could we ever figure out you love baseball? Very happy for you that your passion has never gone away like mine has for most sports but hockey
A friend just told me Chicago and Milwaukee are only about an hour and a half drive from each other. I'll bet you aren't the only one who can't decide who to root for.I’m torn between rooting for the Cubs (grew up in Chicago) or the Brewers ( basically lived in Wisconsin 53 years).
The Brewers getting to the World Series and honoring Bob Uecker’s wish and legacy would be great. It’s always tough shaking of the old hometown teams thoughTom, I lost much of my passion for MLB in the 90s when the Orioles were trying to buy a championship and steroids were ruining the integrity game. At the time I was coaching little league baseball. I was much happier with the young people playing for the love of the game.
Unbelievably the fourteen consecutive years of the Orioles losing rekindled my love for MLB. That and the crackdown on steroids. I genuinely enjoy watching young players develop and nothing is better than a pitcher's duel! The game today often reminds me of baseball in the 60s when the pitchers dominated the game.
I felt bad for the Red Sox rookie starter Connelly Early in the deciding game of the Red Sox and Yankees series. He didn't pitch bad, he should have only had only 2ERs, but the Red Sox played sloppy defense behind him. Often when that happens a young pitcher will try to strike everybody out.
I can't wait for the use of electronic strike zones next year. Nothing gets into a young pitcher's head more than a bad call at a crucial moment.
As Yogi said "Baseball is ninety percent mental. The other half is physical" As crazy as that sounds it is absolutely true!
A friend just told me Chicago and Milwaukee are only about an hour and a half drive from each other. I'll bet you aren't the only one who can't decide who to root for.
I really don't care who wins, the Padres are out of it, sorry Sherrel. And the $334 million+ Mets must buy a ticket to see a game. The Big Money Phillies and the even bigger money Dodgers might wear each other's bullpen down before the NL Championship even begins. Which could open the door for the winner of the Cubs and Brewers series, I can hope!
I just want to see some good old school baseball!
I don't see this in any of the stores that I visit. Most of the single serving stuff is really several packed together in a rather indestructible container. Or maybe the stores that I visit have a higher class of shoppers than the ones in the big city.every aisle is littered with part eaten or drunk food, people pick it up meal deals etc shop and eat or drink and dump the ‘empties’ before they reach the tills
Around here we can identify folks from the North when they eat their fried chicken with utensils!Supposedly that was a way they caught German and Italian spies during wwII, they would observe them eating with utensils.
