Morning all,

About to shut down the server update window and go home.

Yesterday was busy, but got the front yard mowed, Met with a roofing contractor for the boy's house and some other errands. Had a couple of hours of train time, I ran some trains and then ballasted about 3 feet of track. Still have 5 switches that need to be ballasted along with most of the south side of the layout. Been trying to figure out how to get auto roadways around the layout with the "bridge work" needed for the trains to circle. I think I have it.

Postwar roadways (2 lanes) 20 or 25 feet wide?

And as a transplanted "northerner" never ate fried chicken with utensils...But finding many fried chicken places hard to get chicken from anymore. Not sure if it's the oil it's fried in or some spice. Don't want to pay the price to "borrow" the chicken. 🤣

I aways thought of Maryland as a northern state, at least the Baltimore metro region. We don't even eat fried chicken with silverware, that is finger food! "Finger lickin' good!"
I drive the other half mad! I like to eat off the bone with fingers, chicken lamb chops whatever,my dad always used bread to wipe his plate clean…said saved my mum a bigger chore…smirks
..I have been known to be caught in the kitchen licking mine…just before I wash the plate mind
And I do not put plates down for dogs to eat off, though food may escape my plate and accidentally fall into a certain pups eager mouth
...I will not touch other peoples leavings though…shudders. Nor share utensils…only share a can with the other half and usually try to get in first lol
I possibly could eat Northern style could not guarantuee that I do not stab myself in the hand by accident lol, luckily I am not a spy!

Good morning, all! Still pretty much summer here. I don’t usually use my IPad when visiting the diner, but with the folks having issues with photos improperly posting, I thought I might see if I have the same troubles.
I normally copy and paste, but that doesn’t seem to work. Attached files seems to be the way.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Such a lot of lineside scenery too for references. Seeing what you see and not what you thought you saw.
Agreed I have stored a lot of information on the passing of stations over the years, not even just Goathland that I model, plus plenty of Goathland visitors have gotten me information on scenic items nearby not railway eg the weir. That station has been several colours as well, including dirty and steamed stone clean.new buildings, a footbridge dragged in from elsewhere.
I have a lot of Peterborough as well, we use the track layout on part of our railway, although we did not copy the station buildings too boring, but I have photos before it had a massive do over.and pictures of work being carried out. Sometime in the future sone people may find them of interest, some examples, not pretty locos though I have those but just oddments for reference, oooh sone are upright, not all drunken louts lol

Last one is for snow removal, not pretty but we have a model somewhere in a box

Woops, tried to reply to Signal or Relay boxes... [Edit]

And that depends on where in the USofA. Out in the great northwest, Bungalow's: Electrical, Relay and/or Signal could be added before... Might be a naming difference between the boxes ( which ever ) up here that you can actually get into and close door vs sitting on bucket looking in the front. Size matters too which depends on track complexity. For instance, Napa Street ( Spokane ) has a 8'x10'(ish) bungalow that controls all the stuff there. UP, BNSF and the Kettle Turn all merge within a few hundred feet, although the Kettle Turn is not allowed on the Main. That runs up to Yardley at Havana Street.

In German-speaking Europe they are called signal boxes, or Stellwerk.

You know, I have a lot of fun on this forum, sharing modelling ideas, seeing others work, but the coffee shop is in its own little bubble a delight to drop in and have a giggle with like minded wits, just in case I do not think to say it,
I really like the people here, the teasing, the capacity to laugh at our selves and with others. it is sad to come back and see some of those writers lost, if not forgotten (that also is a nice coffee shop effect)

but am thankful to share with the total idiots who still remain…smirks…..runs like ……

3 days of rain....finally. Maybe 1.25", but November it should start up continously.

I haven't been able to eat the spinach fast enough and it's starting to go to seed, so I'm pulling it up today.
The Tuscan Kale is looking great and will normally survive the winter as long as there are no ice storms. The Komatsuna next to the Kale is infested with Cabbage Moth worms. I'm tired of picking them off.
The Okinawan Sweet Potatoes over at my mom's house have vines almost 20' long. It's been almost 130 days and the leaves are just starting to turn yellow. I'll be digging those up in the next couple of days too.

I like to eat off the bone with fingers, chicken lamb chops whatever,
My late sister Cathy always cleaned the bone. My wife and I do the same. The best part is always closest to the bone.
.I will not touch other peoples leavings though…shudders.
I'm with you! Except for when my wife trims the fat off her steak, that is mine!

Good Morning All. Clear and 63° to start our day here. Nothing new in our boring forecast...which is OK! I am having to water some young trees though.

Home alone again until Sunday. Wife took the Lexus to the dealer yesterday for free service and is staying at daughter's house and seeing some kind of dance recital today. She no longer drives at night, so she's waiting until Sunday to return. I think that I'll re-arrange some of the art on the walls to surprise her. We have extras since she did oil painting in the 80's-90's, while being a stay at home mom; and my Dad took up painting before retiring. I received 7 or 8 oil paintings when he passed away. She does water colors now. Same tasks and chores around the estate, I cut a few more branches yesterday for firewood, today I will haul them to the stack. I have about a dozen large logs to split, so I'm planning to do 2 of them today.

Somewhat lazy day out in the train shed yesterday. I'm still trying out my new SD40-2's in different lash-ups and with different running scenarios. I think that I will dedicate one pair for local switching. ATSF used them for that in the late-80's, while they still did switching around here. Over at the workbench, I changed directions and grabbed 3 freight cars to weather. I haven't done any weathering in nearly a year that I can recall. I don't do any heavy weathering, and I don't get as detailed as the folks posting in Tom O's weathering thread. Matter of fact, I probably haven't gotten the air-brush out in close to 5 years. Yesterday, I just added graffiti decals to one side of those 3 cars. I only decal one side since only one side is ever visible on the layout. I do weather both sides though. Then I sprayed dull coat over them, the cars got their own overcoat initially to remove the shine when I put them on the layout years ago. Drying overnight. Two woodchip hoppers and a boxcar.

Nothing special, but I did get all four decals on straight and upside right.
Next up will be painting and weathering the trucks, the boxcar's are already painted. Then I will use weathering powders and "old school" chalk on the rest of the cars surfaces. I'll look at some pictures over on the photo sites and may use some dry-brushing as well; depends on what seems appropriate.

David - Best wishes for Dawn.
Swal - I like those graffiti decals from Blair Line. Easy to use. I have also used some from someone named Dave, if I am remembering the name correctly. His are good as well. But the LHS just stocks the Blair Line ones. I used the Blair Line ones on the above freight cars.
Jaz - While one would think that fooling the scanner at Sam's Club would be easy, I am not sure that they would have implemented it without testing. You have to walk out and go through a big scanner, like a metal detector except bigger, and it flags any suspicious customer to the attendant at the door who visually hand checks.

I don't see this in any of the stores that I visit. Most of the single serving stuff is really several packed together in a rather indestructible container. Or maybe the stores that I visit have a higher class of shoppers than the ones in the big city.
Terry -

Around here we can identify folks from the North when they eat their fried chicken with utensils!

Everyone have a wonderful Saturday today.
General rule of thumb is, if the meat has bones, you eat it with your fingers.
