Good morning, Everyone!
No Amazon for me today, but I've had a productive morning so far.
Last week I was surprised to learn that the PC at my desk in the family room only had 12GB of Ram.

A quick ram check from the command prompt confirmed it. I didn't remember the PC only came with a 4GB HP Ram Chip. Neither did I remember adding an 8GB Samsung Ram Chip.
CRS strikes again! This is why I keep files and take notes. What good do they do when I don't look at them? Why I did such a half-assed job is beyond me. It was probably something I had on hand and being cheap...
This Ram configuration is the weak link. I have an I-7 CPU and a NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 TI video card with 12GB of Ram. This system Ram configuration won't do! Bad hands or not I must fix this!
"Damn the torpedoes, I'm going in!"
I checked Amazon for another 8GB Samsung Ram Chip, no luck. And the prices for other brands; $25+ for some off the wall 8GB Chinese brand was too high for me. Not to mention they ship from China! I didn't want to pay for an overpriced pair of 16GB Ram Chips.
Time to check my old friend eBay. Sure enough, I found just what I was looking for; an exact match for my 8GB Samsung Ram Chip from a seller in Silver Spring, MD no less! I made offer of $20 on Thursday morning; the (new to me) 8GB Samsung Ram Chip was here on Saturday. $21.20 including tax and shipping. I can live with that.
I would have offered less (yes, I am that cheap) but I missed out on a pair of 16GB Corsair Ram Chips by being cheap. I offered $43 and somebody paid the seller's asking price of $50. I should have just paid the $50 and been done with it, but noooo, I had to be cheap!
This morning, I installed the 8GB Samsung Ram Chip. Then I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics, no problems found. Now I have added 4GB of Ram for a total of 16GB and doubled the Ram bandwidth by running in dual mode. This $21.20 upgrade could net me as much as 20% increase in speed.
Making short work of this job has renewed my interest in upgrading a few other PCs I have to be able to run Windows 11, but that will have to wait for after Christmas.
It turns out I am still capable of working on PCs even with my decrepit hands. This HP mini/micro (whatever they call it) ATX case was the most difficult. The other two are full ATX cases. No need to nearly completely disassemble the damn thing to make room for my big old clumsy hands.
I have been so worried I can't get things done I sometimes avoid doing things. This time I was determined to try. What was the worst that could happen? I screw the pooch and have to buy another PC. That wouldn't break me. Doing nothing was unacceptable.
Now I'm off to do something, anything. Right or wrong I'm going to do something!
Have an enjoyable day Everyone!
