In other news, watched an interesting documentary on WATU (Royal Navy training unit in WWII)

Ignore the spelling in the auto generated subtitles that you can't turn off...

ADS-B Exchange and Flight Aware has not received a position report since south of Alaska. I don't know why. They should be almost parallel to the main Japanese Island now, and Flightrader24 is either getting the ADS-B telemetry, or they are guessing the position of the flight like Flight Aware is based on last known speed and altitude. The ADS-B website doesn't even depict the flight on the screen.

Not sure what is going on with this. This is the first flight I've tracked to the Far East, but I've never had reporting problems when tracking from Europe to the US. Still scratching my head about this.

We landed (touched down) about 2 1/4 hours ago. Was at the hat 2 hours ago. 15 min to walk to and clear immigration.

Breezed through immigration and customs and have been waiting at the gate for Sapporo - HN 2155 — for an hour and 20 minutes.

I had a problem activating my eSIM for Japan but got it cleared up. It works now though I’m on the airport WiFi. The problem was we were trying to activate before we took off and the WiFi disappeared before it activated. The wife’s was fine but not mine. I chatted with their support while waiting here and got it done.

I was hoping to grab a bite at an airport convenience store but our gate area only has a mini ANA run one. Other airports and maybe Narita elsewhere have main brand convenience stores as welll. Slightly more expensive than on the street but not U.S. airport food expensive. I did buy a bottle of lemon sparkling water from a machine using my virtual Suica card, which is a Japanese IC card network card, which are stored value cards issued by transit final wish but usable for more than transit. A lot of vending machines take them and a lot of stores do as well.

I’ll grab an egg salad sandwich in Sapporo at a convenience store when we land. I never would have believed it as I’ve been here a million times and never tried the fresh sandwiches at the convenience stores but after hearing a ton about them in some facebook Japan tourist groups I accidentally got joined to when I had a pair pop up and I answered. So when we were here last I tried the egg salad sandwiches from the three major convenience store chains (Lawson, 7-11, FamilyMart) and they were awesome. And only like $1.50 plus or minus.

It seems we’ll take a bus out to the plane parked on the Tarmac. That’s how we did the domestic flights on Skymark last time for some of the segments as well. This is an ANA flight.

Not boarding yet and I charging my Apple Watch but we will be soon I think.

good morning coffee friends.

i will show one picture here, the rest of the pictures you will find in my layout thread.

Good morning, Everyone!

No Amazon for me today, but I've had a productive morning so far.

Last week I was surprised to learn that the PC at my desk in the family room only had 12GB of Ram. o_O A quick ram check from the command prompt confirmed it. I didn't remember the PC only came with a 4GB HP Ram Chip. Neither did I remember adding an 8GB Samsung Ram Chip.

CRS strikes again! This is why I keep files and take notes. What good do they do when I don't look at them? Why I did such a half-assed job is beyond me. It was probably something I had on hand and being cheap...

This Ram configuration is the weak link. I have an I-7 CPU and a NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 TI video card with 12GB of Ram. This system Ram configuration won't do! Bad hands or not I must fix this!

"Damn the torpedoes, I'm going in!"

I checked Amazon for another 8GB Samsung Ram Chip, no luck. And the prices for other brands; $25+ for some off the wall 8GB Chinese brand was too high for me. Not to mention they ship from China! I didn't want to pay for an overpriced pair of 16GB Ram Chips.

Time to check my old friend eBay. Sure enough, I found just what I was looking for; an exact match for my 8GB Samsung Ram Chip from a seller in Silver Spring, MD no less! I made offer of $20 on Thursday morning; the (new to me) 8GB Samsung Ram Chip was here on Saturday. $21.20 including tax and shipping. I can live with that.

I would have offered less (yes, I am that cheap) but I missed out on a pair of 16GB Corsair Ram Chips by being cheap. I offered $43 and somebody paid the seller's asking price of $50. I should have just paid the $50 and been done with it, but noooo, I had to be cheap!

This morning, I installed the 8GB Samsung Ram Chip. Then I ran Windows Memory Diagnostics, no problems found. Now I have added 4GB of Ram for a total of 16GB and doubled the Ram bandwidth by running in dual mode. This $21.20 upgrade could net me as much as 20% increase in speed.

Making short work of this job has renewed my interest in upgrading a few other PCs I have to be able to run Windows 11, but that will have to wait for after Christmas.

It turns out I am still capable of working on PCs even with my decrepit hands. This HP mini/micro (whatever they call it) ATX case was the most difficult. The other two are full ATX cases. No need to nearly completely disassemble the damn thing to make room for my big old clumsy hands.

I have been so worried I can't get things done I sometimes avoid doing things. This time I was determined to try. What was the worst that could happen? I screw the pooch and have to buy another PC. That wouldn't break me. Doing nothing was unacceptable.

Now I'm off to do something, anything. Right or wrong I'm going to do something!

Have an enjoyable day Everyone!

Good morning. It's foggy and 67.

Louis, you were using dual channel RAM before you upgraded, but you were using 8GB in dual channel, the extra 4GB was single channel. Intel is not as fussy about dual channel RAM as AMD is, but being able to use all 16GB in dual channel will prevent RAM bottlenecks.

I did not know that.

I always thought to activate dual channel, you need two (or more) RAM modules installed in the correct paired slots on the motherboard. Therefore, with only one RAM stick installed, the system would only use single channel mode since there’s no second module to pair with.

In addition, I believed that when you have mismatched Ram modules the system won't use Dual Channel mode.

I learned something new. 😁

I should have consulted with you before I added the first 8GB Ram Chip. Like I did when I chose the GeForce GTX 1050 TI video card, thanks agian!
It tells me the page isn't working right now.

I have another question, when looking for my video card it only listed 4GB of Ram for the GPU. Windows performance says 12GB. Looking further it breaks down 4GB as dedicated and 8GB as shared. I assume the card has 4GB is that correct?

Correct.

FYI, support for the 10 series GPUs ended a couple of months ago. Security updates will still be available for a couple more years, but if the GPU encounters something it doesn't like, Nvidia won't update the operation of it.
