Long Winded Old Fart
Anyone that is presently using the cheap WM spray paints(96cents to $1.12) won't be able to get anything except gloss black or white after July 1st.
They weren't making enough money on the stuff, so we will have to buy the expensive paints after that. They start out at $3.97 & up.

That sucks. I did use the cheap paint on things like backdrops. Oh, well, at least there's no inflation. :)

URRGGGG! That really blows! That paint is perfect! I need to go to Walmart and stock up it looks like

At the 3 stores I went in yesterday the paint has already been taken off the shelves & sent back to the manufacturer. I did find some flat black mixed in w/gloss that I bought. But, the red primer, green & other colors that I use all the time were already gone. That's just the way WM does things. You find something that you use all the time & the next time you go to buy it, it's gone. I was told when I worked there that if they can't make at least 88% on an item they won't be selling it anymore. I've noticed w/the last remodel(just had 1)that they've gotten rid of a ton of merchandise. If it doesn't sell out the door it goes.
They want to be like Target.

Any chance it might show up in a Dollar Store or other type of salvage lot store? Up my way we have a chain of stores that buys out odd lots and liquidations as well as discontinued items of all kinds. Hard to imagine in this economy that a paint manufacturer would want to back credit that paint and then just destroy it thus making it a total loss. I have no idea just how much paint they sent back but a buck is a buck even to a big paint company.

I think WM owned the paint company. Maybe they just want to get out of the paint mfg'r'ing business. On the can it says Distributed by WM.

Really?? Wal Mart sells things made in China?? What a shock !!

No matter where it comes from I guess I'll stop by Wally World tomorrow and see if there is any left.

Well, i just back from one of my Local Walmart's, and i spoke to the manager of the paint department, she told me that there was no such word of the paints being taken off the shelf's and discontinued at there location. She also said that those paints are there BEST sellers, obviously because of the LOW prices. She said that its a WalMart brand item, and she finds if very odd that they would discontinue there number 1 seller in the paint department.

I mentioned what i heard in this thread and she told me that it was very unlikely that it would be happening, and that its there number one seller product in the department, and she runs adds for them all the time, and has not heard anything about them disappearing off the shelf's anytime soon....

So what im thinking is Larry, that maybe its just your local Walmarts that this is happening at LOL

I ended up buying 12 cans anyways LOL (4 each of White, Black, and Gray) just in case something does happen to them.... lol

Josh, I'm on a WM forum & all of the people from all over the US that work for them have told me that WM has taken almost all of their spray paints off the shelves in the last 4 days. Although there are some stores that didn't know about it as per the forums.
I'm not taking any chances either. I went to 3 stores & couldn't get the paints I use either. gray & red primer, flat black & a lot of the regular colors. Thursday I'm going to Ft.Myers & there's 4 WM's down there. I'll hit them all just for paints. The only paints they are keeping is gloss white & black.

Hmmmmm well thats weird lol

I would think that this lady would have heard about it for sure since she is the manager of the department. The shelf's were also stocked full and infact she also said she just finished getting in a few cases of each color and had re-stocked them this morning.... lol

Maybe re-packaging could be it as Bob said above. Ill drop by my other local Walmart and see what they have left, and talk to the people in the Paint Department to see if they have heard anything about it lol

Josh, Keep us posted on the other stores in your area. I'll miss WM paint if it dissapears.
Hope if it comes back in a new package that it's the same low price. Usually when a company changes the package colors, etc., they up the price.

it is likely to be consolidated: being removed from some stores and shipped to others to be closed out. Very common with WM. So if your store is getting some, be thankful.

Josh, i wouldn't be very surprised, they might sell a loet of them but if they still loss leader then it is entireley possible WM will get rid of them.

need to stop by local WM...

I went in my WM today to get some other stuff & checked the spray paint isle & wa-la they had restocked the shelves w/what they had in the stock room. The store Mgr. told me that as soon as they sold everything that they are not supposed to sell that would be the last. I found 2 cans of gray primer tucked in behind some gloss black. Still didn't find any red primer though. The area where the paint was is almost empty. Have you noticed that it's almost impossible to find any aluminum(color)paint on the shelves?
I had to buy some matte silver in Krylon to get what I needed.

Larry, i know for sure that Aluminum color was discontinued a few months ago. I was told it was the worst seller of them group, which came as somewhat of a shock to me lol. ive had to do the same thing you had too, get a different silver color, and the new one i got is not as good of a aluminum color as the one they used to have

I sure hope they dont yank all these paints for good

I am glad I don't shop WM. Would rather pay twice the price than support a company that has ruined so many small mom and pop operations, my wall paper store being one of them. They were selling double rolls of wall paper cheaper than I could buy single rolls from the same manufacturers that I was selling for.
