Good morning ...

WIllie ...... Praying for your wife as she has her 4 hour procedure this morning. I like your pictures, especially the one with the guy coming out of the man hole.

Tom O .... You are ambitious. Laying 61' of mainline track and weathering 10 boxcars. Enjoy.

Christian .... The boxcars look good.

Everybody ...... Have a nice day.

EDIT:.... I meant to thank everybody for likes and comments on my photos .....THANK YOU!.... I appreciate them.

once I committ I tend to focus and can get a lot done. Terry knows when I get like this to leave me alone. Tie strips are super easy, glue 3’ together in this case 20-3’ sections wait an hour and then glue them to the roadbed. The turnout is a #8 and will get put down where the soldered 9’ rail piece ends, no need to trim rail or at least one of them! The boxcars, well I gave an out until Sunday if I run out of zeal! Weathering today will be panel lines and some Pan Pastels. Of course, life (namely Terry) can get in the way but till dinner time at 6:30pm I have a cleared schedule.

Good Morning all! Another low humidity day. I've been trying to get some of the outdoor projects done while the weather is somewhat comfortable. The 90 degree temps are forecasted to return Sunday. More importantly the humidity will return.
Nothing to report from the train room. I did run a loco with a track cleaning car for about 20 minutes. The track cleaning car doesn't back over turnouts very well so all the sidings and spurs need to be cleaned by hand.

STAY SAFE

Good afternoon y'all. 72° clear and sunny. The next seven days should be relatively pleasant with temperatures in the mid 70s, and lows in the 50s.

Terry: Peace be with your family, and condolences.

Garry: Nice job with the Pullman car. Like your passenger trains.

Willie: Hope they can identify the source of infection, it will make things easier for your wife, (and you) when the actual surgery is performed. Like your work with the HO people.

Christian and Ray: Not for nothing, I've been lost for so long, I really no longer want to be found..

On the medical front, "All my numbers are good"...what ever that really means, my new Cardiologist, a younger doctor, told me that while I have some potentially problematic calcium deposits on my heart valves, there is no imminent danger, as long as I keep taking my meds, and keep the cholesterol and BP down. He also identified my leg swelling as Vein Reflux, which means when standing and / or sitting not all the blood returns to the heart, it remains in the legs, causing the swelling. Overnight, when I sleep, with my legs elevated, blood flow is normal and the swelling goes down. He referred me to a specialist in South Jersey.

On the model railroad, I have finished the two side walls to the elevated passenger terminal. I have also determined the width 8" + or -, looks about right for three tracks and 2 platforms. This is about right for a small layout using RDCs and Comuter equipment (MP54s and P70s, powered by Road Switchers). The length is about 38½" plus the station headhouse.

Two different width station platforms will be utilized. I hope to have a better photo, by the end of the weekend.

PRR Westbound Coaster on the NY&LB, running along the Raritan Bay, approaching what is now CP Rare. Closest adjacent tracks are the Raritan River RR Interchange.

Afternoon All,

It's been crunch time this week but we have finished Dad's room with a working ROKU TV and Computer/printer. Dad flies into town tomorrow. We still have a bunch to do at the house but it's more of straightening up and getting rid of the "stuff" prior to the estate sale most likely next weekend then dumpster time! The shower rehab should be starting next week and is supposed to take 5 days. The sewing room is about 50% done. This is important because the boxes are blocking the layout.

Have a FD retirement to go to tonight. My friend has had enough and is taking a partial state retirement like I did.

Willie- Dad bought a Sleep Number bed that's being delivered 10/13. He has a full size one now. Very nice perspective photos.

Joe- I feel the same way. Of course this has pretty much been a zero progress year so far. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Garry- Great loads. Are they representing MF tractors? Nice scene.

Christian- Pretty countryside.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon gang!

Finally, an easy day at work! All my stuff is wrapped up for the week, and all I have to do is answer the occasional phone call! Time to catch up on the forum!

Terry, Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your daughter in law, and please pass them on to Marie, your son and the young woman's family.

Willie, I'm jealous of the fact that you have time to paint you people! Most of mine are still naked! Also, the best to the Mrs. with her surgery.

Boris, That structure is gonna be awesome!

TomO. Laying all that track in one Day?? What, do you have a bunch of Chinese coolies working for ya??

Going out tonight after work for the 1st of 3 run sessions at IBKen's in preparation for the upcoming B&O modelers mini-con. My throttle is loaded with fresh batteries all ready to go, should be a fun night.

BBL?

karl,

nope just TomO, American.

Remember these are Central Valley tie strips that I put 3, 1 foot sections glued to 2 others totaling about 6’. I then lay that down on the roadbed that is prepped with white glue. Position it, press it down, a few tacks and about 10 cans of soda and wait till it’s dry enough for rail. Then I do another 6’ feet, rinse and repeat till I hit 61’. Took me almost 2 hours done at roughly 1pm!

Dinner is at 6 tonight so should start the rail about 7:30. The rail definitely takes longer. I coat the foot of the code 83 with Barge cement in 9’ lengths already soldered. Then I take a syringe loaded with a 60z% mix of barge cement and 40% MEK and dab each tie plate for 9’ on only one side. I will do about 54’ to where the #8 turnout will be placed. Float the turnout but tack it with 3 push pins and do the last 6’ of rail past the turnout. If I get the 1 side of the rail done by 10 I will start the other rail, if not I can wait till Sunday. The Central Valley ties are self gauging but when I start the second rail that 9’ being laid will have probably 6 rail gauges on it. No matter at midnight I quit!

This is the part of model railroading that I believe I enjoy the most, followed by scenery.

Tom O do you stagger the flex track rails? So that the joints are not in the same spot for each rail?

Good Morning Everyone. Clear and 59°, back into the 90's later today.
Thanks to all from my wife for the well wishes regarding the procedure yesterday and the upcoming major surgery.
Her medical procedure went well yesterday, now the waiting begins while the lab tries to identify the source of the infection. I'm not understanding the hospital protocol at this place? Main entrance is closed. You have to enter and exit through the Emergency Room entrance and just walk down a corridor to where you want to go. There's no security or anyone asking where you're going or why you're there? You just cannot use the main entrance. But, the nurse bringing my wife out in the wheelchair (which she didn't need) came out that entrance to me and the waiting car! It seems like there would be more exposure to Covid and other diseases at the Emergency Room entrance. Otherwise, the whole hospital seemed to be operating as normal...I was allowed in the recovery room and could have gone into the prep room if I had hung around for that. While my wife had to have a Covid test, there was no requirement for me to have one?

Thanks for the likes yesterday regarding my post; Christian, Sherrel, Tom O, Garry, Karl, Hughie, James, Joe, Curt, Tom, Patrick.

Western omelet today, Flo. Tall OJ to quench my thirst.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started assembly of a new Hydrocal structure from Downtown Deco. See my post over in the RPO thread. While the main kit is Ramone's Storage and Salvage, there was a bonus kit of Cooter's Liquors thrown in for anyone ordering the first week.

Box two contains a whole bunch of Hydrocal crates and containers.
Since I was going for instant gratification, I started with the much simpler Cooter's. Basically just four walls with some minor add-ons.
IMG_7803.JPG

Here is a start after trimming the flash and sanding the joining edges.
IMG_7804.JPG

The basic structure is now completed.
IMG_7805.JPG

This was the easy part! The next step for me is to spray it with white primer. Then comes the real fun part of doing the detailed painting. That's the beauty of Randy's kits. No plastic or laser-cut wood kit can capture the look of masonary, stucco or brick surfaces like Hydrocal castings. Stay tuned. Ramone's is a much bigger structure.

Christian - You're building up quite a freight car roster there.
I keep thinking of that 7.5 mile walk that you make. I can do a mile in 20 minutes, so 7.5 would take me 2 1/2 hours. I'd have to stop and pee along the way!
Sherrel -
Wishing Leannethe best this morning
Leanne??? Just when you were getting the spelling right.
Tom O - I had also read that Testor's had changed the Dull Coat formula but I haven't noticed any difference.
Hughie - I don't know the characteristics of N scale track cleaning cars, but I have very little problems in HO. There are a couple of spots that present problems, but I just use my hand to move the cleaning car in those places.
Joe -
Not for nothing, I've been lost for so long, I really no longer want to be found.
I am right there with you.
Karl - Nice to read that you're going over to assist Ken with some dry runs. I don't get any opportunities to run on other's layouts.

Everybody have a great Saturday and an awesome weekend. Stay safe.
