Good morning gang!

37° under clear skies. Looking for a high later of 53 degrees as clouds build. rain is expected around supper time.

Going to be looking for a new computer for the layout and programming. It seems mild Windows 7 machine has finally gotten old enough to the point or it will not run decoder Pro. Every time I try to start it I keep getting Java error messages. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java to no avail . Time for an upgrade. I don’t really need anything fancy I just need to be able to run decoder pro and also run the Lokprogrammer. Any suggestions?

I use a Dell windows 11 machine to run Lokprogrammer. I loaded the Java program, but haven't tried decoder pro yet. Costco has some good deals on inexpensive win 11 computers right now.

I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to computers. You run your railroad off a computer?
I have a new in the box, never opened Digitrax basic system, which i...should open i guess and see if i can understand any of it.
You don't beed a computer to run a basic DCC system (except maybe some setup utilities or decoder programming utilities). But there are software based systems that include decoder programming, all sorts of train control stuff, and stuff like that -- e.g., JMRI, RocRail, etc.

Karl: Others have probably posted on this. My take on things and I probably will get some flak: If you do not want to worry about W11, get an older machine with ( or without ) a newer TPM chip. Windoz won't bother you about upgrading. If you are brave and have the know how, look into Dell Precision WorkStations - T3500, T5500 or T7500. The 7500 is a beast and hefty, 5500 is lighter. T3500 only has one processor, the others dual. There is a T3500 on eBay @ $99 shipped with XP installed, or if you can, a T5500 that would need W10 @ $50 2 240G drives, 144Gig memory with 1 bid; ends Friday; $50 shipped - no license needed as it is a Dell and for some reason Micro$oft does not care; you just need a W10 cd. And load Pro if you go this way.

I bought 2 T7500 ( dual 3 gig XEON, 8 cores each, 16 gig memory ) a few years back as I did not know about the T5500. T5500/T3500's are faster on boot than T7500 for reasons unknown; Once you get to the desktop, they will run circles around an I9. XEON has more secondary cache for the pipeline. If you want to use it for gaming, probably not the way to go as there are too many task switches and the pipeline gets fetched of the time. And they are Dell so rock solid and should last years. Except for the drives - I replace them every 4 or 5 years just cuz.

Greetings from the parched Jersey Shore, where we have had 0.14" of rainfall, since 09/30. Back in May, the weather pattern changed from Rain on alternate days, to rain once in a while. About a month ago I posted a photo of the Manesquan River Reservoir with a lot of sand showing, where water normally covered.

Yesterday, Governator Murphy, the State DEP, and the American Water Company decided that Central New Jersey, including the Shore, were in an "Extreme Drought Condition". Now, I'm getting hourly texts, emails and robo phone messages, telling me that there are mandatory Water Use restrictions, and I cannot wash a car or water a lawn or garden, or build an open fire etc.

Not for nothing, my lawn was brown since early August, I'm amazed that they have finally noticed the obvious.

My fellow computer types. What do you think about this knowing what it would be used for. For $133 bucks, it cant be all bad.

That's pretty much a slightly older version of what I'd linked. It should work for what you need. And the price is right. If it's Amzn renewed, it should have a 90 day warranty, so you can make sure it works.

It's plenty for Model RR Use, streaming U-Tube Videos and other normal household usage. Win 11 Pro, is OK for what you want also, andddd...the price is right.
