Well howdy there internet peeps and those waving fingers at airplanes over your houses!

It's Troy again...

It's FLOATERS day... oh, wait. It's been that every day since my eyeball tried to pull away from the optic nerve 6 weeks ago. Though, I now have lots of floaters instead of one big ball... Go in Tues to see the optometrist again, so she can peep in my peepers and make sure it's healing as it should.

In other news this is the Saturday Family Feast fest on my wife's side. Sis-in-law got the clubhouse at her condo. We should see about 20 to 30 peeps.

I made the BBQ Baked Beans:

Wife and her sis have been baking baking baking.

Not sure if you call these Nuts-n-Bolts or Chex Mix... I go with Chex mix, since we HAD to use the pre-packaged Chex brand spice packets per Sis-in-law. But the Pretzels and Cheerios do evoke the nuts-n-boltz idea.

And our fridge is overflowing with food I'm not allowed to eat (yet)...

Our daughter has dietary issues (dairy and gluten sensitive) so wife has been making GF/DF stuff to include her. Hopefully, the daughter brings the live in boyfriend to meet a large part of this side of the family.

And, I've been instructed to secure the clubhouse at our location (it's larger) for the summertime reunion on that side.

That's it for now. I'll check in later if I'm still able to function after the food.

Today, I've managed to get TWO emails from Hillsdale College. Never attended. No family member has. BUT I was on a bunch of conservative email lists (Don't worry, I got better)....

Now, they keep selling my contact info to other group's contact lists.

Keep marking them as SPAM

BUT, they're tricky. On their unsub page, you have to check a box that is a complicated reading ... everything above it is check here to get... the unsub is check here to unsub, but it's not worded that way. Takes a minute and a read or two to figure out what they want ...

and it looks like they have multiple email campaigns. The two I got were both mixing politics and religion. I wonder how many more I'm going to have to mark as SPAM in gmail and keep unsubbing from???
If it has an orange highlighted screen with a funny icon those are hosted by Salesforce and as soon as you unsubscribe from one they subscribe you to another. And they have an IP address on Salesforce for each one. I block each IP as I find it as I control the server. But it keeps coming.

mostly financial with a conservative bent. But I get bombarded with spam from both sides. I constantly get spam and requests for donations “from” the current WH occupant or other big name Democrat leadership. Or in the name of some famous Hollywood personality shilling for them.

Many people don't realize the visit of the three wise men did not happen instantly. By the time news reached them, and they traveled to meet Jesus, he was a young toddler.
Yes. The whole flight to Egypt and King Herod’s decree of murder of 2 and below.

But it makes a good story and tradition to condense it all. It’s a way to acknowledge and incorporate it every year.

Good Morning All. Clear and 37°. High today in the mid-60's, so I'm letting the fire go out in the heater so that I can remove ashes/embers today. It is full. While the embers won't really go out today, it generally takes 2-3 days, at least they won't be flaring. Next time it's due, they will be quite hot.

Somewhat wasted day yesterday. After indoor chores, laundry and lunch, I laid down for a nap without setting the alarm. Woke up 2 hours later! I normally set the alarm for 40 minutes. Today I will be dealing with compost making as I cleared the compost bin yesterday and I have a few piles of leaves, grass clippings and shredded vegetation, along with charcoal and wood ashes that have been stored for this opportunity. I also have a bucket of fermented kitchen scraps that acts as a starter. I do miss the chicken manure that I used to have when we still kept them.

The text messages continue. Yesterday I received one from Sherrod Brown, apparently in desperation. Hell, I'm not even from Ohio and he needs me to contribute to his Senate campaign! The previous owner of my cell number seems to be on a lot of Democratic mailing lists. And I am still getting calls and texts from collection agencies 10 years after ATT says she relinquished the number. At least the doctors, dentists and beauticians have stopped. I also get a notification that her Walmart grocery pickup is ready, since she never updated her profile with them.

An unintended short day out in the train shed yesterday, due to the extended nap! So I only ran trains which I needed to do. ;)
A little police action from the archives.

David - The street scene is coming along very nicely. Are you modeling a specific location or are you just winging it?
Our troublesome neighbor is just a bad fit. The original 70 acre piece of land was split into 7 plots ranging from 4 of them that were 5 acre plots and several larger ones; mine is 15 acres. Four of us original owners have been here 40+ years together. The fifth is owned by the son of one of us, one 5 acre plot is unoccupied but it's still owned by the guy who bought it originally. The bad neighbor bought his from another offspring, the sister of Bubba, about 20 years ago and has been an on again-off again problem. We all thought that 7 years in the penitentiary would fix things, which it temporarily did; but he has been acting up in the last 18 months. As part of his parole, the ATF comes out periodically, unannounced, and searches his home for firearms, so we are thankful for that. Other than Bubba, the rest of us are far enough away that he isn't an ever-present problem. Now, a fun incident. After being released from prison, he spent 3 weeks overhauling his car which his wife never bothered to go out and start while he was locked up. He also didn't take care of the licensing or inspection requirements until a year later. He drove to town to take care of it, and was stopped because he was out of date. Apparently he also wasn't seeing the probation officer either so there was a warrant out for his arrest. He was locked up again for 7 more months, the car was impounded, his wife ignored it and by the time he was released again, the impoundment charges were far greater than the car was worth, plus once again, it wouldn't start. So he now sits at home with only a Harley to ride. Soon however, the probation officer will have him locked up again because the judge ordered him to get a job, which he hasn't done. He probably hasn't seen her either. Enough rambling for now!
Tom O - Like you, I have no neighbors for miles in the other three directions unless you count cows!
If I am reading your post correctly, you might leave some trees. If so, why not take them all?
Terry - Likewise, I don't ever unsubscribe from E-Mail because I also believe that it alerts them that it is a live account. I will text "stop" though, besides blocking calls from that number. Redundant I know.

Today is a day to celebrate, it is National Bacon Day. Whoever discovered bacon deserves a Nobel Prize.

Everyone have a great Saturday and a wonderful holiday weekend.

Good Morning All!

32F @ 65% and dark. Think slight overcast.

Thank-you all for your concerns about Nina. We are already starting to remember the fun stuff with her. Think that this is happening faster as we watched her decline which started the grieving process. Still a big hole in our life though. Don't remember if I posted or not. We planted her yesterday am with her Centipede and Tennis Ball under the Walnut tree. Thank God for backhoes as the ground was frozen a couple inches down.

Airports: Boy growing up in Spokane was nothing but a blast. Loved to go to Grandma's house as the flight path to Fairchild AFB was right over the top of her house. B52's, KC's and sometimes various fighters. You could almost spit on them. Spokane International too, but not as many flights back then. Don't get me wrong, loved to go to Grandma's house, this was just bonus! Think that got me started on the aircraft thing - still enjoy watching and listening. Never have been bothered by the sound or house shaking and stuff like that. Same problems with trains, noise is never an issue with me. Just listen if they wake me up then I drop off again. Ya, also get near the tracks to be up close and personal. Now where did I put that camera?

Back in the saddle again. The Nina episode pretty much made us zombies for almost a week; 0 attention span, worse than A.D.D. Today is shut down the house power and at least try to tidy up the house breaker box and add the new 40A drop and breaker. Wire is stretched out up to the box in the bedrooms. Only had to cut a small hole in the wall to get the wire where it needed to go. Roto-Zip's are your friend. The list goes on!

Later

The only private jets that don’t bother me is the son will sometimes fly over when landing here ( a closer smaller airport to our west) to visit and he tells me when in the Summer time and he wiggles his wings as he flies over, that to me is so cool…
TomO - very cool of him! I never worried about the "wiggles" ----
It's looking back at the #1 engine of a '74 "flapping" in clear air turbulence.
I used to marvel the fact that something that big could stay attached to the wing?

We are looking for 64 degrees with possible (don't count on it) showers!

DAVID - Awesome scene and modeling.
May I order a pint?

That is why I only pre-order from Scale Trains. They don’t over hype deliveries or over promise. They also don’t take payments or deposits on pre-orders.
Likewise here. I have never been let down by them. One shipment was three weeks late because of the West Coast backlog in early 2021, but they kept me informed. I especially like that there is no deposit and no money is due until they are ready to ship. They are the only company that I have pre-ordered from. Four times for 13 engines. I just can't fit any more freight cars on the layout.

Good morning again. It’s not unusual and actually it’s the norm that Terry is out in the stables by 5:30 but for sure by 6am. So this morning I’m in the cave in my chair at 8:05 when she says hey and I predictably jump 2 feet out of my chair. She couldn’t sleep so at 4 started her year end stock market review. The whole time spent in her office that I never check so it was a definite surprise.

But the great news from all this was the exceptional year the investments had that she refused to listen to me about. I can discuss real estate markets all day with you and I can offer great right on profitable advice. But the stock market, nope never listen to me. She manages our stuff very well and this year was even greater than normal. Heck even my 401k that she would not (big discussion/argument on that) let me pull out from was up 18%. Remember though the stock market is a casino and does not reflect the dreadful economy we are experiencing

They were the 1st model railroad company I pre-ordered from. I met Shane Wilson and the team at Trainfest in Milwaukee when they introduced the 1st line up. I was impressed. So, I pre-ordered the Museum quality Big Blow UP turbines, 1 Rivet Counter and 1 of every kit Classic. The way they did it then and still do, works!

It worked so well that when Rapido was taking pre-orders for a now forgotten car I wanted I did it with them. That was a dreadful experience.

So while I would like to pre-order Genesis models I don‘t. The predictability as to when their product will arrive on shore is pathetic and the pricing is scary to me

Good morning all. A very cold, rainy day.

Yesterday I spent some time in the train room. I want to get the street scene finished. It is harder to do than I thought.

Some work done on the road . The 'fiddly bits' still to do.

View attachment 178767

The 'Boars Head Inn' is in place. Around the area to do.

Then I have to tackle the area at the rear of the buildings.
Nice village scene. I would feel comfortable walking around there. Thanks for sharing

Same here! You almost have too with some of their products or their gone. I have 6 of the BNSF reefers on pre-order, and I'm glad I did. Theu are not even here, and the non-sound versions have been sold out for months and the sound versions are starting too as well. I have gotten every pre-order I have placed with them.

AIRPORTS.

When I lived in Leeds, the airline serving our local airport announced they were to use VC10 aircraft. There was 'such a commotion' amongst the residents nearby. The noise from the aircraft was their biggest concern. Complaints went on for nearly two weeks. It stopped when the local freight airline company announced they were using VC10s as freight aircraft and had been doing so for four months.

Apparently the VC10s although larger, were much quieter than the other aircraft at the airport. The complaints ended there and then.
It's pretty normal, someone complaining about something they have little or no actual knowledge about, those "Just Stop Oil" protesters are the same.

Most of the protesters are outsiders
Strange phenomenon, eh? For some reason, there were organized protests concerning the development and deployment of the F-35 systems, some at the highest levels (Michael Bloomberg), and I really don't know why.
(Without political speculation, that is). But there was also much negative media for the V-22 Osprey program, in it's development stage. It is a very successful platform, as is the F-35.

WE get to see C-17s going through gyrations, (Want to be fighter pilots?), as well as Army NG and USMCR Rotary aircraft, on a regular basis, plus Coast Guard Dolphins (Noisiest Aircraft ever). And Numerous private and small commercial aircraft. People in this area, get paranoid when the ceiling is low, and someone is doing artillery training at Joint Base, Dix, McGuire, Lakehurst. Not only do we get to hear the thumps but feel the impact on the ground.
The ranges are about 40 miles away. Since this is a monthly occurrence, you would think these people would remember their environment...
