I'm "Jonesing" so hard to go scootin it's not even funny. Last summer was my first for riding with any kind of motor. I been biking since the 70's I yousta build my own BMX bikes, never raced em, just rode the wheels off em. Then it was rebuilt Ten speeds and THEN they came out with "Mountain" bikes and I went WILD on those things for decades! Hip and knee problems got so bad I can't pedal anymore without great pain and I did not ride anything for a few years. This scootie is a godsend for getting me back outside into the fresh air! I can't recommend it strongly enough, you gotta get you one of these!

Good morning, 7 below zero and calm.

New guy, what is scootin?

Health care: a disaster in America.

Friday the 13th. Who ever decided it was unlucky, I wonder.

more later...

It's sad they didn't bother proofreading before making the sign.

They have been taking crap over that for years. Don't know why they haven't corrected it.

Good morning. Starting off with a goose egg on the thermometer this morning. Ready for spring, but that ain't gonna happen any time soon.

Haven't heard from Eric in the last few days, hope he's alright.

Bruce - I can see why you are proud of your son.

Well I made to the train room yesterday afternoon and did the cleaning for the furnace guy who will be here between 12-3:00 PM. Furnace hasn't had a check up in 12 years, since it was installed. Used to do the work myself, but the electronics now limit what a person can do without the codes and a laptop to do lot of the work.

Chet, we may see a January thaw in Wisconsin later next week. Around here sort of a mild winter so far.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Greg

"Scootin" is going about 15-20 mph on a 50cc "Tao-Tao"!

DSCF4479.jpgCruising the glorious country "back road" net of central Michigan. I put over 6000 Kilometers on it last summer. Almost time for a spring oil change, a new sparkplug and clean the air filter. I always make sure to put the highest octane fuel I can find in it, makes a yooge difference! LOL! "I don't go far and I don't go fast but it goes ALL day on a gallon of gas"! Two fine rivers with many bridges, small parks and several RR crossings are among my "stretch my legs, have a smoke and enjoy the silence for a minute" stops. Beats the heck out of everything else besides MRR and MRR looses on the days it's above 60 degrees and not raining TOO hard!

That is problematic with almost all the new equipment. Mechanical systems can be repaired or even "cobbled" along and still function quite well but this new stuff "pops a cork" electronically and you are STUCK!

Morning from WET California .. Gonna be a good day even with still scattered showers around. A couple nice showers last night and my "bucket rain gauge" has just shy of 1.5 inches for the 24 hr period. Big Bear Lake and ski area has 24 inches of new snow. That's great because that lake was pitiful looking it was so low.

Been up for several hours, but just enjoying playing with the dogs, drinking coffee, talking with MOH, and reading all youse guys posts. Car is in the shop - should be ready later on today. I forget what all was needing attention, but the list was enough that the bill will be more than I want, but still cheaper than a new car payment.

Picked up a Marx B&O gondola from Ebay. I really don't need it, but it was in pristine condition and a "steal" of a price. Yes - I still play with "toy" trains! Just can sit and watch them go in a short circle for hours. I think it is a holdover from my childhood.

Looks as if LA will get it's second losing football team - so be it. There was no reason for San Diego to move other than a greedy owner who wanted the city to build him a new stadium. Sure isn't going to help them play any better!

Howdy ...

Sherrel .... My first electric train set was a Marx. ... Long .... long ..... long .... ago.

Chet ..... Maybe you ca correct the sign yourself. LOL

Here is my kit bashed diner/parlor/observation car (Silver Fountain). I made it from a Walthers Budd observation car.

40° here and going to rain all weekend. Was on a train last night, got hungry so i heated up a tamale on the sidewall heater. First bite, BOOM! Stuck i my throat! I was just thinking earlier that day "man i havent choked in a while!" See since i was a kid, I've always choked easily, nobody knows why, i just have to go in once a year and have my esophagus dialated. Last time they did the dialation, they said they barely got the scope in. They said the opening in my esophagus was only as big as a pencil. They couldnt believe i could even swallow anything. It took about 2 hours last night for the food to dislodge. It made for a terrible trip! Anyway im still kickin. Guess i better go see the doctor again!

Ten-four on the January thaw!

2869--really something on the choking thing. Did you cough it out or how did you get out of that one?

Garry: The obs car is really "sweet"

It was lodged to where i could breath, but it was a bit difficult to breath especially when my saliva started to build up. Sometimes if i drink water and force it down that works, but last night i just had to wait it out. It would trigger my gag reflex here and there, i think that helped. I finally got the courage to drink some water and forceing it down, and it finally worked. Its amazing how something like that puts so much stress on the body, when it finally went down it was "utopia" and then i was extremely tired from the distress. IT SUCKS! I need to get to the bottom of this, just seems like everyone i see about it is baffled. I have constant drainage (pre nasal drip) year around and its excessive. I myself believe this is irritating my throat and makeing it get inflamed and closeing it up. This being caused from allergies? I also believe i have galbladder issues that might be adding to the problem? But i have had this issue since i was a kid, and i doubt the galbladder was an issue then.

RON - I wish you the best on getting that taken care of. I ca't imagine what you must go thru.
With part of my continuing problems -- I have an aneurysm that is between my heart and my esophagus. I had to drink a quart of a really terrible tasting liquid (barium) while they made an esophagram in order to see if there was room to repair the aneurysm without open heart surgery - I think I have that correct - however, I hope that you do not have to do the same. That stuff is terrible!

GARRY - Really nice OBS car! AND surrounding area!

Sherrel:
Reminiscent of when the Colts schlepped out of town in the middle of a nighttime snow storm and headed for Indiana. At least this greedy owner had the courage to announce his move before actually moving. Hopefully, we will come to our senses and quit kissing up to these pro sports teams, owners, and league commissioners.

Garry: Nice Observation/Parlor/Diner.

Greg:
Here in Jersey we have a January Thaw once each week, followed by another weekly freeze. Yesterday was beach weather, tomorrow brings another snow storm...

Speaking of Medicare, My Part D, (Drug Plan),provider sent me a letter, received today, telling me I needed "prior Authorization" for my lung medicine. This was after the forth time the Rx was filled. Where were they back in October, when I started it??? Oh, yeah, In October, I was in the donut hole, and paying $135/30 days, Starting in January, I was paying $45/30 days...
Problem's not the program, but the Insurance Company...

Later this evening, I'll continue running wire on the layout. Suddenly having contact issues with two separate Shinohara switches, a #4 and a #4 wye. *@$!%#!!

NJ National Guard are out on the tank and arty ranges at Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst. 38 miles away, I can hear and feel the whump of the impact zone. This will go on periodically, all weekend.

Have a great weekend.

Thank you, yes I've had to drink that Barium (chalk) several times for this problem. They were hopeing it would get stuck while i drink it so they could see what was going on. But it always goes down with no problems. It is miserable when it happens, heck sometimes i cant even swallow water!

Garry- that is a nice observation car! My birthday is coming up just in case you wanted to know! LOL

Good afternoon.

Dave, Sherrel, Joe, and Ron .... Thanks for all of the kind remarks about my Silver Fountain observation car.

Ron ... That esophagus problem must be solved because it is potentially very serious. I suggest you keep seeing doctors until they can correct it. This may be something for doctors at a large university research hospital. ... How soon is the birthday ?

Afternoon All,

Well I started out building a 3 sided bin to place on the flat car and then I got a phone call from my Son in Law saying that Peggy (daughter) had fallen down stairs at her school and was on her way or at the ER by ambulance. SIL was working about 90 minutes away and MOH was at her part time job. After arriving at the ER, I found Peggy in a lot of pain but otherwise OK. She had re-injured a previous back injury. I sat with her until she was discharged and drove her home. No modeling today.

Chet- Thank for the info on the loco.

NG- You have a Big Boy also? The photo the other day looked like a 2-6-6-4 to me. I may be wrong (I frequently am).

Sherrel- I'm glad CA is finally getting rain and snow.

Garry- Great scene. I really like the tow truck and car (and the rail car).

2869ral- I'm glad you got through that OK. Pretty darn scary.

Joe- Will soldering jumpers help any?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Yes, im going to see a specialists, Feb 8th. I will be 48.

The weekend is here. Got my shipment of CVMW parts for the bridge. Still waiting on the parts from Plastruct. I thought they would be here today, but not so. Probably next week sometime.
Got freezing rain coming in tonight then snow tomorrow. Guess I won't go back out on the Harley tonight.
Had a couple of good riding days to work here, especially yesterday with the temps in the upper 60s.
Playoff games should be interesting as the Pittsburg game will be played in rain or sleet and the Kansas City game will certainly be in a freezing rain condition. Only the men play this sport.

Oh yes, I got a Riv Big Boy, it was not the best quality control wise and failed on me after running an entire foot. Had to send it to get fixed and now it is my star puller as I suspected it would be. The thing probably weighs around three pounds and hauls everything I can get to stay coupled right now. (40+) I know not it's limit! If you are on the fence about one I'd go ahead and pull the trigger, it's NICE!

Terry posted two videos of this very loco when he had it for repair. Thanks again "Gomez" you ARE the "Go-to-Guru" (for me) when it comes to the inner workings of these things! I dunno nuffin!
