Morning all, large tea and something from the cake trolley please, my new reading material has finally arrived:

Very late arriving this time. Rather than being sent on to UK subscribers like me from a central UK based distributor as before, for some unfathomable reason, this issue was shipped to me here in the UK via the Netherlands!!!

No wonder it took so long to turn up!

Good morning! Happy Tax Day  . 58° with a probability of rain before 1400. Have to mail MIL's taxes today. Need envelopes first then to the PO.
Unable to E-file because there is a trust involved and it's a section 671 return. Nothing involving that individual is easy.

One of my train orders never showed up so I went down to the post office to find out what happened. The order was at the post office in White Plains NY a month ago only 29 miles from my house and then for some reason was sent to Indiana and disappeared there. The Post Office told me to contact the seller. I said, why you have the order where did it go. They had no comment. It's gone somewhere. Well, that's nice do I get back my shipping charge? I guess not.

I have access to the appropriate firearm and ammo. But we need a high speed camera and a place to do it and a way to ensure we're not off a little on the aim. You need to be far enough away so that the blast also doesn't have any effect. A 50 puts out a mighty blast, even with a good muzzle blast suppression/re-routing system... (Muzzle brake that redirects the blast to counter recoil)

I don't doubt that peeps would behave as some sort of liquid and could cause deflection a little. But because the peeps are freestanding and not supported except by each other you'll have less effect on it, I believe, then shooting into a container full of liquid constrained by the container...

You'd need enough peeps to reproduce it enough times as well to rule out one-off weirdness.

In other news, the market was up again today. The indices were all up around 0.78-0.79% except Nasdaq which is 0.64% and Russell 2000 which was up a little over 1%. Our self directed 401K was up 1.10% and our self directed HSA was up 0.58%

I don't worry day to day but find it interesting. I actually have a few hundred $ in the HSA account to invest but didn't get to it today. I'm kind of wondering when the volatility will calm down. I expect we'll have more down days coming up. Not trying to time the market for the very best result but would like to get8in at some point in a dip with this money...
I’m of the belief the volatility of the market will continue until the tariffs settle in, maybe 90 days. My wife and I are still of the belief by years end that market will have crossed over 50,000. But the ride getting there will be interesting.

Americans are not going to stop buying, we have little discipline and while cars may not sell like hotcakes I think Ford especially but also GM will do well. They have so much mark up built in they can handle the tariffs and they are conditioning the market to accept higher prices. It’s the groceries that will cause the greatest pain.

I must be something different. I have lots of discipline when it's comes to spending money on things I don't need. I have a paid off truck and car both with low mileage. A full set of golf clubs, a golf membership and a paid off house. I don't need to spend money on anything. My life's plan was to get everything paid off and stop spending money. It worked.

Morning all,

38° and clear, headed for 66°.

Got the PEZ dispenser rack built, but now have to sand as I cheaped out on the paint and the light coat I started on the raw wood has runs. I have to take the second can back to Wal Mart and get the paint I should have bought. I still need the plastic edging to hold the bases of the dispensers.

Thus far, vacation isn't fun. Can't wait to retire. the boredom will kill me. I guess there's a reason I don't take the days.

Swal: Sorry too hear you didn't win. Unlike you, we're having to spend a bit right no (Don't owe anyone anymore either). Trying to make sure we can stay here longer once I do retire.

Troy: Like to watch those video of the girl shooter.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, bulletproof or not.

It's Troy again...

I've had acid reflux for about 30 years. Probably has something to do with both genetics, and with the gallons of coffee I used to drink. I've finally got my NINJA stealth coffeemaker dialed down to the 6 cup setting. And I rarely drink it all.

Back in 2017, the Dr I had out in LA wanted me to get off of Omeprazole (a PPI "pump inhibitor") that I'd been on for 15 years. He cited a new study saying that the med was tied to increased risk of dementia. BUT, that wasn't definitive, and Gastro docs have been poking holes in that study and another that tried to prove it.

Well, being on Famotidine (an acid reducer instead of blocker) isn't working even with my dietary changes. My current doc is still leery of PPIs long term, but told me I could start them up for short term. I did, and had a great two weeks. Then back on Famotidine (the weaker stuff) ... Today I started the PPIs again. I'm going to run it for about 6 weeks and see if the triggers for acid reflux hit as they have been. If not, then I'll ask the current doc to give me a script for the Omeprazole again.

I may end up with a trip to see a gastro doc. Since this is Colonoscopy year, I won't be surprised if I get a full workup and not just the southern region. But, that won't be until Sept or later.

Already made the run to the grocery (salad for me! and Grapes for the wife). And stopped at Menards for a couple of Rattle Cans of paint. A friend is 3D printing a bunch of trees and rocks and buildings for our Gaming Tables (Tournament coming up in Oct) and we need about 50 trees, 12 buildings, and a bunch of rock formations for the number of gaming tables I anticipate needing to set up. So I'll be painting all of those.
Rocks.jpg

Fortunately, these are trees in the abstract, and I don't need to have them finely detailed. A few hits of green flock on the branches, a dark wash on the bark, with highlights dry-brushed on. And some paint/flock on the ground/rocks and we're good. They need to stand up to getting used and packed away a few times a month.

Good morning from Wisconsin. 38f degrees now and 50 later. The fun thing like yesterday is the wind. Steady winds at 25 with gusts in the mid30’s. Yesterday the gusts were in the 40’s. Gloomy looking but no rain in the forecast

This morning’s walk was no picnic heading into that wind but was worst when it gusted. Slower times at 54 minutes for the 3 miles. I couldn’t hear much of the conversations this morning.

A couple medical appointments for both of us this morning. A couple more on Thursday and then the scheduled appointments are done. It will be nice to get back to quarterly visits but we both know at least one doctor today will say come back in a couple weeks

I cancelled attending the last op session for the month yesterday. While I have good feelings about both our health it is still a big uncertainty. Better to cancel now than last minute. There were a few guys on each extra board so replacing me is no issue. The 2 I signed up for in May on the 4th and 5th though I really want to make. Those are the last 2 scheduled before our travels in May start. I missed all of March and now April for op sessions and missed out on 7 of the 9 work sessions scheduled. I feel like I quit the hobby but family and health come 1st

Taxes! Personal were done in February and while we hate the government earning interest on our money we did get a refund. I took a disbursement from the 401k and had too much tax withheld. I have to do a mandatory withdrawal this year but now I know how much the taxes will be. The business was also done but we waited to pay which was done on Monday.

Terry just came by and said find a place for dinner tonight. We haven’t been out for dinner for 3 weeks. Her comment, I just want someone to cook it and serve it. So now do I go to a comfortable place we’ve been and know or try something new and hope for the best…

Enjoy your day

Patrick I'm certainly not as dumb as the government when it comes to money issues. In the spring and summer, I spend 4 days a week on the golf course with friends I grew up with. This has been going on for 60 years. The rest of my time is working around the house and playing the horses which you can go broke doing if you're not careful. In the winter it's all trains. Maybe I'll get together with my old girlfriend. After that happens, I'll have no time left.

That is a strong possibility, but once their credit reaches a saturation point, and they are having difficulty making payments, things will change.
Discretionary spending, like model railroad products are already backing up. The combination of long waiting periods between announcement/pre-order and shipment/delivery are causing inventory problems at major suppliers. Example: who wants an Amtrak 50th anniversary commemorative P42 or E8, on the eve of Amtrak's 54th Anniversary. Big sale items from Factory Direct, Trainworld and Walthers since the first of the year. Old merchandise sitting on shelves that hasn't moved with new stuff coming. Now throw in price increases due to real or imagined tariffs......
We will see. Hopefully Terry is right about the Market. This ain't the first rodeo.....

This goes on every day between the people I play golf with.

Swal makes a motion to change a rule in the golf's Big Bet.

New rule request in the Big Bet. You must take one person over 70 years old as your partner in the Big Bet if you're under 70 years old.
I would like to get this rule passed today if possible.

This is the response I received vita text message,
Any rule changes must go through the rules committee. I'll look at your request and get back to you in 6 to 8 weeks.

I am in Tom & Terry's camp on the market. The Fed has gone from saying maybe 2 rate cuts to probably 4 this year.

My excitement for the day is taking the coyote killer to the groomer. It's been 3.5 months and there have been icebergs of fur floating across the floors the last 4 weeks. She sheds a lot, but that winter coat is coming off fast. I lost the battle with the wife and agreed to grooming every 2 months from now on.

Good Morning All. Clear and a bit chilly this morning at 51°, only heading up to 75° today. Roller coaster weather has us at 50° again tomorrow morning, but going up to 85°+ until the weekend with rain and highs only in the 60's.

I did a little gardening yesterday before the wind finally died down enough for me to run the water sprinkler. It needed irrigation really badly. I couldn't wait for the possible rain this coming weekend. I'm currently just picking Spinach, but should start on the Lettuce by next week. All of the Tomato plants that I set out last week are still looking good. The Cilantro that I planted 3/31 finally emerged, making it the last of my direct-seeded stuff to emerge. Afterwards I used the dreaded weedeater for a while, trimming around the pool and house. Today will see a return of the mower, as I need to do the west side bordering my hayfield. I did set up the pump and removed about 2/3 of the water that is on top of the pool cover. I only stopped because I needed that extension cord for the weedeater. I'm using the water to irrigate trees which are struggling to recover from last years tornado.

I continued doing the wrap-up cleaning on the cleaning project on the layout yesterday. I did the last two laser-cut wood houses and a couple dozen vehicles. Just one grain elevator left to do. Ran a couple of trains on each level to keep the track clean
I haven't been posting many pictures lately since there hasn't been anything too photogenic happening. So today I am looking at the archives for a few of my favorite mini-scenes to post. Most have probably been posted before, but it gives an example of what I get to look at when I run trains.

Joe - My primary care doc knows every little in and out regarding Medicare and explains it to us very well. He probably also knows Medicaid as well, but since we don't use that I don't know for sure. My dermatologist and cardiologist also seem well-versed as I never pay for anything done by them either.
While I was able to E-file taxes, I wasn't qualified to use the IRS freebie site due to an RMD. Had to pay a service to do it. It hurts because we got used to using H&R Block's service offered free to employees while my wife worked for them.
Chad - You may have missed the dip on investing. I chose to pass since I am already over-exposed to the market for someone my age, according to the financial gurus. At the beginning of February, I was at 45%, which has gone down some since then, even though I haven't moved anything.

Yep! It's tax day for Americans. Pay your share but use every legal way to reduce them. After several years of not having to pay, the RMD payoffs have lifted us into a taxable bracket again. 2025 is really going to be a shocker because the additional RMD from my traditional IRA, combined with SS will exceed my highest salary level from my working career.

Today marks the day that the Titanic sank. It hit the iceberg on the 14th, but didn't sink until after midnight.
Everybody have a terrific Tuesday.

Good mornin' crew. It's Tax Day in Cheyenne and its 39 and clear with plenty of sunshine. Winds are SW @ 7 gusting to 10. High form today 70, low tonight 42 and 0% chance of precipitation today although there is a possibility of light snow Thursday evening.
Missed muster last couple of mornings, but we survived.
Did taxes last month. Not much to it. Refunded everything NJ(ret) paid in last year. They say taxes are the price you pay for a civilized society... hmmmm... sometimes I wonder
Got a couple more boxcars on the workbench and gonna try to get a little more done in the train shed later today.
Y'all have a good day and take care. We'll leave you with this...

Afternoon all,

Took the bad paint back to wallyworld and got what I should have. I was able to sand off the runs as the crappy paint didn't really stick all that well. Bare wood, oil enamel didn't even soak in a little.

Going to try to till the garden and plant some beets and maybe some carrots. Still a tad early for beans. Tomatoes and peppers are just now starting to hit the garden centers.

We'll have to see. Most indices were down a slight but today except the Russel 2000. My self directed 401k was up 0.18% and the HSA self directed investment was up 0.3%.

For the small amount of cash I have in the HSA it really doesn't matter much but I'd like to think I made an extra percent or two because I saved a small amount when investing it.
