Morning all,

44° and cloudy with storms later this evening. High of 72° later.

Almost to my 10th anniversary with the city. Gotta burn 60 hours of vacation before my anniversary date to get to the 3 weeks I'm allowed to carry over. I have a hard time using it, as I don't like what I come back to when I'm gone. After May 7th, they are granting me another week to have to use every year. A whole month, Don't use the 3 weeks they were giving me...LOL

I can tell I'm getting old, I complain about everything. Wait, I always did!!! 🤣

David: Great news on the not having the Big "C"!

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 50°, back into the 80's today after a very pleasant 70° yesterday. According to the NWS, which has a very poor record here, we're in for four days of thunderstorms starting tomorrow producing as much as 3.5" of rain. This is the same NWS that totally missed the thunderstorms that we got Saturday night.

Productive day gardening yesterday, I re-tilled the remaining beds just because I had the opportunity...didn't really need to. I planted the Green Beans, some Cilantro, Sage, Parsley, Basil and Lettuce. Today I'm headed to the feed store for some store-bought Tomato and Pepper plants. Maybe I can get some of them in this afternoon. Not a rush because the ground is still a bit on the cool side for them. But if I get as much rain as predicted, then I might have to wait longer than I want while it dries out a bit. I didn't mow as much yesterday as I planed since I had an extra special dinner meal going on. I had pulled a Prime Rib roast from the freezer that I bought on sale back in December. That required an earlier than usual starting time, and I then juggled mashed cauliflower, sauteed green beans, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy before carving. Wife actually made the gravy but I had to work around her. Sorry, but I forgot to invite y'all.

Almost zero time left in the day to go out to the train shed, but I did for about 15 minutes of running only. Nothing complete, just switched some cars in the yard.

Tom O - Hope that you get acclimated to the new BP medications real soon. Wild world spins are never good.
Regarding tariffs, non-political thought here. I have read that most companies and countries will absorb the bulk of the tariffs in order to maintain market share. Interesting thought that I hope will bear out. I condone buying American-made products regardless. The tariffs shouldn't affect stuff already here unless somebody engages in price-gouging.
David - Good news on the Big C. Now to get the lung pumped back up.
Troy - Your story about the red sauce reminded me of an incident at work one time. There was an employee who constantly mooched tamales from a group of folks who always brought a couple dozen in every day to share among themselves. One day they decided to turn the tables and made a small batch made with Habanero Peppers which they held for him. He took a couple of really good bites and absolutely set his mouth on fire. While he tried to maintain his composure, it had the desired effect and he never asked for another one.

Everybody have a great April Fool's Day.

Good morning from Wisconsin. 33f degrees here going to 46 with rain after 6pm. The grass is starting to green up!

Election Day in Wisconsin and my wife is pretty pissed at me as I will be canceling her votes with mine on most of the folks running except one.

We will go out to eat after (around 10) as the cleaning service was sick yesterday and are coming at 10 today. When they called yesterday I told them they could skip but she said no they needed the money! It’s a family group that cleans and they do a great job

My brother will arrive this afternoon for 2 nights. He’s got a board meeting tomorrow morning in Madison and even with the kids moving in tomorrow we still have room, plus the grandkids love him. Terry and I have decided if the doctors clear us next week we are getting in the car to start a road trip. The 1st stop is Gulf Shores to see friends and then Florida working our way up the East Coast. We will use a rental SUV. .

When I looked for a new vehicle in January our local dealer has maybe 6 brands as part of the family named franchise plus I looked at other places. About 2 weeks ago the emails started coming and have not stopped. They right now are worst than the extended car warranty calls we used to get. Did you know the tariffs are coming? Buy now…

The son texted and than called about his tax bill and property. He is a S Corp. One of the things he said was next time an accountant says go buy a truck for the business he’s going to buy it. He ignored the advice and is paying for it now. If he had purchased the truck he walked away from his tax bill would pretty much been zero. But since he didn’t he has to cut the check for taxes! My sympathetic response was you earned it now pay your share! His realtor wants him to make another offer on that ranch in Wimberley he bid on last month. The Bank of Mom told him to go ahead but at less than the original offer. I did ask who his realtor is actually working for, him or the seller? Must have lit a light bulb with that question.

David, a big happy congrats on being negative for the C.

Willie, I hope what you wrote about absorbing the tariffs will happen. There’s no way the car manufacturers are going to stop selling and Americans are too foolish to stop buying cars. The rebates and low interest rates from Manufacturers will disappear and somehow they will still be profitable. I understand the meaning behind the tariffs but they could have been done in a less threatening way with our trading partners. But as the man has said, “he don’t care”.

I’m more concerned about Social Security than a tariff

Terry’s been shorting the Market and buying commodities.

Have a great day

Good mornin' crew. It's cloudy and 31 in Cheyenne. Winds are from the W @ 10 but that won't last long. High for the afternoon 46 and a low tonight of 28. Intermittent rain and snow turning cooler and much windier, with gusts 45+ later tonight and tomorrow.

Good day yesterday - Finally got to meet SIL's Dad. Had nice visit and dinner. Cool dude! Not much of anything on the agenda today. Cold & wet, so good day to get some mrr work done. Walthers order delivered - started new thread in Buildings & Structures.

David: Glad to hear the good news!
Karl: Nice looking S-2 and Emory Grove depot!
Marco: Good job on the viaduct!
Track cleaning: When I had rails to clean, I used a product called Track Magic. Works great but a little eco-sensitive; has naphtha in it. You'll need to read and follow the instructions. I believe its made by Deluxe Materials in the UK.

Coffee mug getting low. NJ(ret) scored some big a$$ cinnamon rolls yesterday - think I'll go and toast me up one.
Y'all have a good day and take care.

You’re skilled enough Marco. Do the bridge weathering video you mentioned a while back.

It continued to snow some over night. This is what it looks like at 10am.

It’s supposed to warm up and be back to 50-60s by the end of the week but it says possible snow today and tomorrow. We’ll see.

Working more on my app for learning (the throttle app) and I have a side gig worth a little I need to work on today.

Also applying at more places. Had a good conversation with an internal recruiter at a big company. He’s setting up further rounds.

I think that car manufacturers/dealers will pass on most of the cost. Look at how much car prices have risen in the last few years. Purchasers will opt for the cheapest models available.
Unfortunately there aren't any entry level models any more. If car companies gave you the car and only charged for the mandated safety, environmental, and economy equipment, a car still would probably cost close to fifteen grand.

Got the same problem in the UK, no ordinary general runabout cars available new anymore, many people are holding onto ten year old Ford Focus' and Fiestas and the like as many just don't want some overblown oversized SUV style electrogubbins laden thing that costs £400 a corner to replace the tyres!!

Ford just announced the end of the Ford Focus production, (the Fiesta and Mondeo went last year although some stocks are still left) and people are rushing to mop them up before they go.

Myself, I am finally learning to drive a car at the age of fifty (didn't need to up until now) and my wallet will be going towards a decent sensible second hand motor just as soon as I pass my test (hopefully!) at the end of the month,

It's hard to find an actual "car" any more that is a new model. VW and the Japanese still sell some sedans and hatchbacks (that aren't SUV/CUV). I have no desire for any SUV or any derivative (CUV/XUV whatever). I want real cars, preferably wagons, or a truck. I don't mind electric for a second vehicle. Right now I'd rather have a plugin hybrid or an extended range EV (EV with gas motor acting strictly as a generator) for a main car. I did put a $100 deposit on a Scout Terra EREV truck but they won't be around until 2027 at the earliest and we'll see what they actually look like. If it's not too stupid and I have the means I'll go through with it. If they get stupid and do subscription hardware, cloud based essential functions, etc, then no frickin' way. That'd be to replace the Audi PHEV hatch I drive now as our family's second car. It'll be 9 years old come July/August so will be about 11 years old by then. Our family car is a 2019 Jetta SEL and I hope to get many more years from it unless I win the lottery, which I don't play, so not good odds on that.

With regards the snow I reported earlier, its upper 30s and there has been a lot of melting if you compare these new pics to the one from this morning. As it had been pretty warm the previous few weeks (mid 30s to almost 80), no freezing at all until last night, the ground was warm so the snow melted fast.

Well, howdy there internet peeps...

Wife woke me from my nap... we had to drive her mother to the ER.

Seems MIL is filling up with fluids again. Can't keep food down. Not paying attention to her insulin.

Today is change the blood-glucose sensor evening (a weekly job). And, according to the app on my wife's phone, MIL let the insulin pump almost run out. So, she had to grab a bottle of insulin to refill it while they wait in the ER.

Since we only have one car, I'm at home, waiting on wife to text or call for either me to pick up the insulin after pump refill, so I can get it into the fridge. Or to pick wife up. We expect MIL to spend the night. She'll need Lasix in IV form to get her fluids back down to normal.

Since I was interrupted in my napping by all of the commotion, I decided I'd get a dinner wife never wants to have... she's on an anti-sugar kick right now.

mixer.jpg

That's a double-cookie dough mixer, size medium. It was yummy.

Troy: Hope the MIL will be fine.

Must be a day for water retention as the middle sister just texted mom had a relapse of her congestive heart failure and is responding so far to Lasix. She's in a long term care facility and has been since dad passed in late 2020.

Since I'm just sitting around in the 90 degree heat with my laptop, I thought I'd share an observation about our favorite online auction site. Several weeks ago, I searched for a charger for my laptop. I also searched multiple times for N scale model trains. Ever since the search for the charger, my "suggested for you" areas are filled with computers, while model trains are limited to a review of my "saved" items.
I'm guessing their algorithms know how to handle main stream stuff like computers and electronics more than model trains.

Certain model train categories than others,

I have saved searches emailed daily. One of them is 40' well cars. It comes back daily with mostly 40' boxcars from the Tyco/Bachmann era.
Another is Fastracks turnout building jigs. Lionel Fastracks turnouts, and woodworking jigs are almost always the suggestion.

I ended up turning most of them off since they usually return garbage I'm not looking for.
