Evening, Gang -

My 'net connection here is spotty so I need to make this quick.

Stan and other Bama guys, thanx for the welcome, I've wanted to come back here ever since I joined this forum in 2005. I got a good dose of Southern hospitality today with a Grande Tour of as many primo railfanning sites as we could possibly visit in a 12-hour period. I haven't had this much fun since a series of RRISIG tours I attended in 2003! Many thanx to Eric and LGM for a great time.

Rex, I'll see you tomorrow. I can't cheer too loud for the Tide as I'm a guest at my BIL's and he graduated from auburn:eek:

Jim, I don't think your tarinroom is anywhere near as messy as mine - I simply crop my photos to hide the cluttered shelves. If you make your place too neat I'll get a major inferiority complex during my Friday visit! :D

Ray - condolences to your friend on losing his Dad. Good luck with your soldering presentation.

Tom - isn't it great that your son shows enough interest to help you solve a nagging track planning problem! My boy is only interested in guitars and girls at the moment (he turns 16 on Sunday).

Good night yall...

AUBURN??? Yuk, spit, spit. Danged Ken, you will visit anybody. :D :D :D

Looking forward to your visit. CU then;) .

Jim: Yeah, Bama still has a way to go, but this should be a good show year. Troy, Jacksonville, and UAB have taken on some big teams. Of course the big guys like to kick someone around for practice or homecoming :D .

Good morning.

It's a pleasant 73F and clear. The high is expected to be around the mid 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

Yesterday I received a little item that has given me more flexibility in communicating with people. I got a MagicJack. I just plug it into any USB port (I only have about 16 of them), plug a regular corded phone into it and I have free local and long distance calling. That's free both ways. Only thing is, I only have phone service when my computer is online. I can live with that.

REX- AUBURN??? Yuk, spit, spit. Danged Ken, you will visit anybody.

We are going to have to check your vision!
How many fingers is Tommy Tubberville holding up now?

For you non-Southerners, there is a huge college football rivalry between Alabama (located in Rex's hometown) and Auburn.

While I attended Auburn, BAMA was the winner for several years straight. Now, Auburn has been successful for the last few years. It is always a contest that is mourned by losing fans for 364 days the following year.

Ken- I'm sure Rex will be the gracious host he always is, when he has the opportunity to share his layout with others. Except for his misplaced football loyalty, he is a great guy.:D

Mikey

Good morning folks

It is 74 F and sticky right now. High will be 83 F.

I just got home from taking my daughter to the orthodontist. She got the last of her braces out and now has a retainer. In a few moments I am out the door and on my way to Quakertown to look at another bridge project.

No modeling last night.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning everyone!

A nice sunny day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 69°F with the high going all the way up to 71°F. Yes, another day that the air conditioner doesn't get to run! A 30% chance of some showers later today, but nothing to write home about.

Thank you all for your condolences for the Moses family. BTW, it was the Father of my colleague that died. I knew him, but not that well. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and raised race horses as a hobby (Harness Racing).

I need to clean up all the branches laying around on my lawn. I trimmed trees a couple days ago. May get a bunch more tree armatures from some of the branches as well.

OK Flo, one more cup of coffee and I have to get to work.

Jim I'll sell the tank if Rex moves to his Beloved Auburn ;) Yeah right !!!!! and pigs will wear pink frocks,,, or do they already, i heard some funny stories about the deep south :) :) :)

The wifes got the nuclear scan in the morning which should point to whats wrong, hopefully nothing will show up, BTW she's now a certified New Zealand nurse

Afternoon, everyo9ne.

Steve, I sure hope that nuclear scan shows everything to be in good shape. Please let us know when you get the results. And no, pigs don't wear pink frocks down hear but I have heard rumors that some people will root for a certain team in Alabama when pigs fly. :) Hey, I know what you can do! When you make your move to NZ, stop over in Alabama. The whole gang from down here will meet you and get you so sick of barbecue you'll WANT to leave. :D

Ray, sounds like a beautiful day up there. I really need to do some pruning also but these 95 degree temperatures just don't inspire much energy for that.

Paul, there's only college football down here. The closest NFL team is in Atlanta. Actually, it's not really even college football, it's more like a religion. You have to live here to even try to understand it. Let's just say that a bad word about Bear Bryant (who's been legally dead since 1983 but is still actually alive, like Elvis) can get you seriously hurt down here.

My oldest daughter foes to Troy, second daughter goes to Auburn, but both of them and the wife are big Bama fans. I'm for Ohio State, of course. Football season down here can get quite contentious at times.

Was down in the basement for about three hours trying to make the place look presentable for Ken's visit. After I cleaned up most of the large creatures that have taken up residence, I had to vacuum up the smaller ones, like spiders. We have about two zillion spiders but at least their not as big as the other bugs down there. Cranked up the layout and turned on the layout lights. Immediate dead short in all the street lights. Took about a half hour to find the offending light. Started up the train and the lead engine made it about10 feet before derailing. Put her back on the track and it derailed again in another 10 feet. Up to the workbench for a closer inspection. turns out one of the spiders had taken up residence in the front truck and the remains were causing the derailment. Vacuumed up all the track, engines, and rolling stock and found about 10 more spiders. I sure wish spiders were worth something - I'd be rich. :D Finally got everything running right and got all the spider webs off the rest of the layout. The train ran for an hour straight with no derailments or any electrical problems. As soon as Ken walks through the door, I expect a massive explosion from something I overlooked. Why do things always seem to happen like this when someone's coming to see your layout?

Hi Coffee Shop Friends!

Had a wonderful visit from Ken with plenty to talk about and do. Unfortunately, there is never enough time for such a short meet. I guess that I talked him to death trying to get it all in. However, I was successful in getting him to run a train with a manifest and he did better than most have done on the first try.

Mikey, Tommy T. may not be able to hold those fingers up much longer (number of straight wins  ) At least this year, we play Auburn in T-town and won't have to step around cow piles on the playing field:D :D :p .

Paul, yippee it is almost that time of the year when the pigskin flys. I love it, pro or college. I used to be a big pro fan when I lived in Washington, D.C. Yes and of course, my team was the Redskins :D

Steve, I guess you will be hanging on to your tanks for life:D . Move to Auburn country...forbid the thought, yukky!

Jim, Ken has come and gone and you are next. You know, I tried to train my spiders to run power lines, but they never would put them where I wanted them. So, I bought some bug bombs and fired the rascals.

Note: Jim is very correct in saying that football is almost a second religion to all in the state. Unlike others, the rivalry between Alabama and Auburn is year around and has caused fights, divorces, permanently lost friendships, and even a few killings. You don't have to know anything about football, but you do have to pick one or the other :D . It is wild!

Here is a photo of Engineer Ken bringing a freight out to the mainline from Central Yard.

Well I managed to get most of what I had trimmed a couple days ago from 1 tree (Have two more to go.....) cut up and "disposed" of. Of course Fergie and most of you would probably assume that I trimmed the trees because they needed to be trimmed. That would only be partly correct. Yes my Crab Apple was blocking the driveway so my son had trouble hooking on to his boat trailer, and yes the pine tree was blocking my view when I backed out of the other driveway. But.......

The real reason was that I wanted to turn this:

Trees01w.png

Into this:

Trees02w.png

So I could make more of these:

Trees03w.png

To put on the layout and finish the forest.

I managed to find quite a fw that are perfectly shaped for orchard trees. I hope to put a small orchard over on the other side of the layout, so I should be in business when I get there. I got a good sized box of material today and will "cook" them in the oven to remove unwanted guests. Then they will be ready to use.

Jim you are just experiencing Fetridge's Law. As soon as guests leave, all will be well and everything will run again.

Rex, you're not kidding about the Alabama/Auburn thing. There was a stabbing in a bar the day before the game here last year when two opposing fans got into it. The amazing part is that the vast majority of fans never went to either school. I at least spent one semester at Ohio State. Most of the folks here are "tailgate" graduates. It's amazing how fervent the whole thing has become. When Tommy Tubberville plays in T-Town, he has a state trooper and Auburn University PD escort at all times because of death threats.

Ken looks like he's paying close attention in that picture. At least Ken will have a an easy time with my layout. Just crank it up and let it run, maybe do a little yard switching, but that's about it. My layout is plenty boring compared to yours.

Ray, those do look like nice tree armatures. When the Crepe Myrtles are done for the year down here, I can usually get a couple of hundred nice tree starters when I prune. Now all I have to do is get some foliage on that big pile in the garage. :) I've never heard of Fetridge's Law but it certainly hit me today. I went down tonight to add one VW bug to the layout and managed to knock over the antenna on top of the courthouse and snap off a telephone pole. I can only imagine the damage I'll cause tomorrow.

As you know i live a few miles from Bama,,, and even i have heard of the Bama / Auburn thing,,, LOL passions run high don't they.

Ken Go Ken, look's like you had a great time to me.

Anyway wifes gone for her scan, she didn't want me to go so i'll take the kids to the pet shop, not to sell of coarse, they have a great assortment of animals, bug's, snakes and insects to look at, that'll keep my mind off things

While were on a tree theme,
Ray De forestation to re-forestation on the layout,,, thats what i call sustainable forestry :)

Here's one of my juicy red apples this morning, Mmmmm got hundreds like it t pick

Good morning.

It's 74 and clear. The high today will be in the mid 90's and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a small chance for rain this afternoon.

Yesterday was dominated by work on the layout. Some scenery here, a repair there, that sort of thing. One thing that had to be addressed was a SPST toggle switch that was in a bad location. If I had to lean across the layout there was a good chance the switch would be broken, and several times it was. I replaced it with a half inch diameter push-on/push-off switch which seems to be working out rather well. It's purpose is to turn track #2 in the maintenance shop on and off.

Good morning folks

It was 68 F with some fog on the way into work this morning. High today is supposed to be 82 with heavy rain. I wonder what that will do to football practice tonight. We had a thunderstorm roll through last night beginning at the end of my son’s football practice. It was a lot of lightening and thunder but not much rain.

No modeling last night. I finished doing a couple of projects around the house.

We have a scouting event this weekend. We are going to a local farm to pick some fruit. The rest of the weekend is wide open. Maybe I will get some modeling in. Of course first I need to decide on which project to start on ext.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning coffee clubbers,

Gotta make this quick. The Wi-Fi connection at my BIL's house is kinda spotty, I wasn't able to get on the 'net last night.

What an interesting Thursday! Spent most of it in Tuscaloosa visiting with Rex. Lotsa chit-chat, and he had me run a train over the entirety of his pike with a few pickups and set-outs. As Mikey predicted, he and Carolyn treated me like royalty - hope I can return the favor someday! [BTW Rex - is the light sensor on your camera still functioning after that last exposure?]

Steve - hope Nicky's scan tests 'negative' !

Gotta run, it's almost time to head down to Prattville - Jim I'll see you in a few hours!

Howdy y'all!
Rex- looks like you did a fine job spreading a little Southern hospitality to Ken.

Ken -looks like you were enjoying yourself. The modeling I can see in so many of the pictures on this forum continues to impress me, and inspire me.

In spite of some of the idiot Alabama/Auburn football fans in Alabama, most of us a converse with "THEM" about 360 days of the year. The other 5 days, they are not fit to be in public, either gloating or sulking about the latest game. Not at all like model railroaders losing a bid on ebay!

Jim- please extend a warm welcome to Ken and provide him with another memorable experience in the South.

Everyone, have a great weekend!
Mikey

Afternoon Ken, Mikey, Tom, Jim, Jeffery Have a great weekend gents.

Scan went well but won't know the results yet, they send them to the cardiac specialist first, fingers crossed all's well.
Ken Have a great time at Jims, Ya'll gettin about a bit ;)
