Coffee shop part 9

Good morning.

It's 53 here in west-central Louisiana this morning under a clear sky. Unfortunately it won't stay clear long. Expecting a high of 83 under a partly cloudy sky later today.

I had intended to take it easy yesterday but circumstances beyond my control intervened and I ended up mowing my sister's yard which is almost as big as my parents front yard and five times as rough. So today I'll be taking it easy.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA 71446-6114 4/7/2008

Wind Chill: 53°F
Humidity: 91%
Dew Point: 51°F

So Far Today
High: 57°F
Low: 53°F
Rain: 0.00"
Rain Rate: 0.00"/h
Gust: 3mph N

Today High: 85 Mostly sunny. Patchy fog in the morning. Highs in the mid 80s. Light and variable winds becoming east around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight Low: 60 Partly cloudy. Lows around 60. Southeast winds around 10 mph.

I went over to the True Value this morning and picked up a pull behind aerator. Took the snow plow off the tractor and started to back the tractor out of the shed and it would not start. Worked good yesterday when I took it to the shed but not today. Got the truck out there and pulled the Kubota to the house where it now is being charged back up. Like Phil said it was absolutely fantastic weather yesterday and today is supposed to be better. A good reason to aerate the yard because rain is predicted for the next couple of days. Maybe next week I can get the big roller and roll the yard smoother than it is now. A person could easily roll an ankle out right now. I hardly ever roll my yard because the guys at the Co-op told me several years ago that rolling the yard compacts the roots. The grass does not grown in compacted soil as well. I found out that is true after I bought my Troy Bilt tiller 30 years ago. My old tiller was a front tine and you had to wrestle it around and ended up walking in the area just tilled. With my Troy Bilt I can walk in the next row and leave a footprint free path behind the tiller. The garden has been a whole lot better than it was with the old tiller and my back hurts a whole lot LESS.

Good morning everyone and a happy Monday to you all. :)

Well, our street was closed for construction this morning. Hopefully they get it done faster than the 7 weeks that we were told. I feel more comfortable with my car in the garage rather than sitting half a block away on a side street.

Started to get the walls of my enginehouse assembled yesterday. Hopefully they will go up this week some time.

Good mornin' everyone! It's a pleasant 50°F outside this morning. Not going to get a whole lot warmer (56°) but a lot better than below freezing. I have been looking around my house and found all the stuff I didn't get done before the first snow last fall.

I have a bit of work to get done before a meeting tonight and hope to get everything put away and cleaned up around the layout. Want it to both look good and run perfectly when it is checked for the Certificate.

Larry you are very right about the tillers. I also had a front tine many years ago and replaced it finally with a rear tine. Major nicer!

Afternoon all,

started my new role as safety officer or whatever they decide to call me, had a day with a hungarian woman which was interesting, i don't do Hungarian very well.

Only FIVE more pages and we'll have to vacate for a new coffee shop, again, any takers

Well the yard got aerated this afternoon. Before returning home from taking the aerator back I ran the truck thru the do it yourself car wash. All kinds of stuff in the bed so it needed cleaned out pretty badly. Went ahead and washed the whole cotton pickin truck while I was at it and came home and got the trusty buffer out and waxed it. Treated the bed cover with a great vinyl treatment, cleaned the windows, polished the chrome and when I backed it out side I was not to overjoyed with the way it looked. I got out the best clear coat wax I have and re waxed the truck by hand this time and man does it ever stand tall. Also took the tire treatment to it. The only thing left to do is sweep it out and clean the seats and dash pad. I am so tired that will have to wait for another day. I also put my 91 Regency out side and put the truck in the garage because the weather predictors are saying rain for the next couple of days. With the truck in the garage that most likely will not happen but if left out it will be a real gully washer.

Top of the mornin' to ya!

Sounds like I'm Irish or something, huh? Well, I'm not. I'm just me.

So whats up this morning? You? You must be, since you're reading this, huh?

Boy, I'll tell you what.....yesterday was just a beautiful day around these parts. I didn't get out much to enjoy it as I was working and then I was a whipped pup after work, but it was nice to have the windows open to the breeze until about 11 last night. Today is supposed to be a little cooler with rain moving in this evening. Then the weather is supposed to go downhill. All rain and falling temps all week, with possible FLURRIES Saturday night and Sunday morning. That's totally uncool! I thought we were past all of that foolishness!

So I start up a new class on Thursday evening. I'm not really looking farward to it though. I just want to get through school, ya know? But then, I'm not quite to halfway to my doctorate, so I'll keep plodding along. I suppose it'll be better when I can take classes that are more focused on my passions, huh? Right now I'm taking a lot of business courses, and while I see the value in them, they don't really light my fire, ya know?

So what's up with you today?

Good morning folks

It was a chilly 41 F as I headed out the door today. It is supposed to go up to 55 F. I just wonder if we will see that strange bright orange ball in the sky that some folks have claimed to have seen.

Tonight is one of those nights where you wish there were three of you. My son has a practice baseball game, my daughter has a softball practice halfway across the township at the same time. On top of that my wife and I are supposed to go to the Cub Scout Roundtable tonight to make sure several of our Den Leaders make it there and know where to go for some training they need.

No modeling last night.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good Morning Bill , Jeffrey & Philip, Tom ! ANother beautiful day here in Buffalo before the rains come. 44 going up to 61 ! Is it St. Patty's Day again ? Or did I miss it . Oh well another reason to celebrate a nice day ! Going to get some coffee Flo so I'm moving on. Hope everyone else has a real nice day !!!!Steve good luck with your new job . I guess you'll get a nice recipe for Hungarian Stew !!

Good morning everyone.

They started to tear up the road in front of my house yesterday, I was lucky enough to park right across the street from my house so the walk is short. All that was removed was the asphalt so far which has left the original red brick street exposed. It's actually pretty neat so I'll try to get some pictures of it later.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Mornin' everyone!

The sun is trying to peek through this morning in the Finger Lakes. Right now it is 50°F with a predicted high of 62°. Had a window open to air out the house yesterday, and I will be soon opening up a couple again today.

Carl here in Geneva last year they tore up the brick road around Pulteney Park, cleaned and stacked up all the remaining bricks, did all the work they needed to do for sewer and water. Then they brought a couple of truckloads of brick in that they had stored from some streets that got redone a few years ago that were brick to replace broken and crumbled old bricks. Then they relaid all the brick. It is in the Historic District so some special funds were available to do it. It sure looks (and drives) great. They are now finishing the other end of Washington St. (which tees onto Pulteney Park) so that will be torn up all this summer.......

Have a great day everyone!

Glad it's the weekend

Oh sorry, i'm on holiday for a week, it's like a long weekend, hit the BBQ today and built the lower arch for the furnace, it's upto around four feet tall now, tommorow should see it arount six feet tall, then we can do the chimney with whatever bricks are left, should be skyward bound by friday

Steve, that sounds like a dandy! Invite the coffee shop and test it out with a leg-of-lamb, 3 boston butt roasts, 4 chickens, and a hotdog for Ray. :D

Afternoon, Everyone.

Been a while since I've been in so I'll take some extra strong coffee this afternoon, Flo

Rex, sounds like Steve could roast a whole ox on that furnace he's building. :) And no, I never mentioned THE SOUTH when commenting on how long it was taking to get street work done. Although, I have been trying them to get a pothole filled on my street for six weeks...:D

Ray, it's nice to here they are taking steps to preserve those old brick streets. When they are laid right, they are smooth as silk and sure have a lot more character than asphalt. I grew up on a brick street and Cleveland. Except for replacing a brick or two that cracked it never needed any repairs. When I visited the old neighborhood a few years ago, it was covered in asphalt that was falling apart but the brick that was starting to show through again was still in good shape.

Carl, I sure hope they decide to restore your brick street instead of relay the asphalt. It would be worth the seven weeks to me if you came out with something classy like a brick street.

Afternoon, Paul and Tom. It's cloudy down here too but it's also 70 degrees so I won't complain about the clouds.

Phillip, I know what you mean about the snow. 'Bout time for some springtime up there. You are doing better than me when it comes to sticking to your education. I did one year of my masters and decided that I needed to find a real job to support the family. That was 1977 and I haven't been back to finish it up yet. I wish I would have completed it but I made a good living without it and wouldn't be where I am today financially if I had gone on for a PHD.

Jeffrey, that cool that you got your volunteer firefighter plate. If you'll take some advice from an old cop, take that frame off from around the plate. Makes it very difficult to tel it's a VFF plate and I assume one of the reasons for having it is so you'll be recognized by law enforcement going to or being at the scene.

Larry, sounds like the truck came out nice, You'll have to post some pictures. love old pickups. I've got a 72 Chevy I'm weathering now as a farm truck. I know what you mean about being whipped after all that work. I planted two fruit trees this morning and feel like I've already done a full day's work. :)

Seems like the last couple of days have been nothing but things to do. Went to the fallen officers funeral Friday that lasted from 11:00 until 1:00. That preacher just couldn't stop talking. It was almost 3:00 before we got done with the graveside service. It started to rain then but all the severe weather stayed north of us. It rained all night and until about 3:00 Saturday afternoon.

I had to do security for the church Saturday because they were having a women's conference about domestic violence. Up at 5:00 so I could be there at six in the pouring rain. We escorted as many women in as we could with umbrellas so we didn't get the whole church filled with umbrellas. Wife and daughter were late because some nitwit backed into their car at Hardee's on the way to the conference and wouldn't cooperate about giving her his license information. I told her to call 911 and let the police handle it. Turns out the guy was a registered sex offender who was wanted for parole violation. Of course, her pepper spray was in her car instead of with her when she was initially talking to this guy. So much for listening to my training advice.

Things went fine at the conference although it was the first time I've worn a full duty belt in about five years. I forgot how much all that junk weighs. A Glock 17, two magazines, handcuffs, ASP baton, pepper spray, two radios, cell phone....About 17 pounds in all. I think I was on my feet for all but about 10 minutes from 6 until 4. The first multiple shooting I was ever involved in as a deputy happened at a very similar conference in LA in 1969 and I was more anxious about this than I realized until after it was over. They didn't have armed guards at that conference and several of the women commented they were glad to see there was armed security at this conference. I paid for it later though. I had some of the worst abdominal cramps when laying down that I've had in a long time. Shows you what happens when you get out of shape. :(

Aayway, we got two inches of rain and I was able to plant the fruit trees without a jackhammer so it's all good. We are now only about 6 inches in the hole on rain compared to 18 inches at this time last year so maybe we'll catch up if we have a normal summer. Y'all should see the azaleas down here right now -spectacular.

I agree Jim, I would love to have a brick street in front of my house, they look great. Unfortunately that will not happen here. I just arrived at home about 20 minutes ago and they are already about two feet below where the bricks used to be. :(

Couple of positive notes though.
1. They are moving through it pretty quick and even though it started to rain this afternoon, they kept tearing it up so they must be planning on keeping everything on schedule for now.
2. My 18 month old daughter is absolutely fascinated by the big trucks and equipment. She just keeps staring out the window and makes sure to keep pointing out what the construction crew is doing. :D

I think that I need to get an HO Scale CAT Excavator like this one for my layout too.

Yes Jeffrey, that is exactly what I mean.

Which manufacturer is that CAT model from?
