I've had similar experiences with long term taking it (as part of a weight loss supplement I tried a year or so ago). The dreaming issues I had were with a previous try at using the 3mg tablets on a longer term basis.

I wouldn't regularly take it but when my schedule gets out of whack I do take it a few days while holding to the schedule I want and that seems to help. For me, the key has been low doses. I have a 3mg tablet that I cut into thirds or quarters and that seems to help when taken for just a few days to get back on a sleep schedule that has gotten messed up.

These 5mg and 6mg tablets you find at the stores are just crazy if you ask me.
@chadbag & @D&J RailRoad I found this video "Light as Medicine" by a Dr Seheult very informative about how melatonine works.
I've been following his YouTube MedCram for a while now

Was pretty tired, but soldered up a length of Flex for the 18R curve; bent it using ribbon rail gauges (love those things!); and tried a different method for marking the center line of the foam roadbed. I 'sperimented this technique previously.

This time, instead of trying to draw a 18R centerline with a trammel/straightedge, I laid out the curved flex, pinned it a few places, and took a sharpie and put a dot midpoint between every third or fourth tie. Then used the ribbon rail gauge to draw the curve connecting the dots. That gave me the centerline for the split foam roadbed and I glued that down and pinned it. Checked it this morning and came out Very Nicely!! Happy Happy!

I think I will get the reverse loop complete and operational before golf season starts! One of my foursome is resurrecting his circa 60s era railroad (actual date of the equipment - not the era he is modelling!) and I will be glad that I can show him pictures of much progress over the winter. We're men, what can I say, of COURSE there is a competition!!
Steve - here is a dandy way to get any radius.

Put a hole towards the end of a yardstick or similar. Than other holes out the distance of your radii. Make the bottom home stationary at a point perpendicular to the tangent (straight section) and insert pen in the hole corresponding to your desired radius and draw your curve.

I use this everywhere there is a curve.

Good afternoon, by the way.

Flo - I will take a cup of coffee, hashbrowns, eggs, and bacon. Eggs however you like, surprise me!

Willie - Thanks for the tip on fire starting. Also, the Heineken box car, looks cool and I am always intrigued by the little room at the end of their freight cars

Patrick - whenever I see the word firmware in a post I know it's you

Lee - Great semi tractor/trailer collection

TomO - I checked out the Miniprints figures. They are nice, however modern era. I purchased a lot of neat figures for the older era from Fun N Games.

Here is an interesting "modern" railroading development, icing the refrigerator car mechanically. The truck is an old IH, something we used to call a "binder", because IH made one of the first corn binders, a lot of us country folk began calling their vehicles that.

Sorry, not sure of the source. Must have been a really hot day.

more later, Dave

I tried Melantonin but it caused a fitful night of waking every few minutes in a start. I get the same effect from Nyquill.
KEN & CHAD! Interesting reading your bouts with Melantonin. I have tried both the 3 and 5 sizes with nada effect. Gave up on it and Have something stronger from the doctor with my trying to sleep while I had the A-Fib going on.
I had the Melantonin before, but it just does not do anything for me?

Try a smaller amount and only use it on a regular sleep schedule -- ie, at the same time nightly. I find the high doses screw me up but the small doses, say under 1 mg, help. But not for more than a few days.

Willie: More info on the Heineken beer wagon. It appears to be from Era III, which is post war. But would be an earlier Era II wagon that carried over through the war and survived. Most post war cars didn't have the guard shack thingy (I assume it is sort of guard shack -- don't know really).

The Heineken logo seems to be the version from the 1930s -- 1951. https://1000logos.net/heineken-logo/

The Brawa release appears to be from 2015.

Morning all,

Sitting watching The Adam Project on Netflix. Meat is in the smoker. Wife has gone to work. Decided on cherry wood, especially on the pork. Nice thing about electric is the temp stays even.

I did check in and so far the network was fine overnight. Should stay stable until we come across another firmware glitch. For those not computer savvy, firmware is the software built into device, much like the bios is on your computer.

Bbl
Patrick, that constant temperature I believe is the key to good smoked meats. The reason I don't use my smoker more is that it requires a lot of attention to keep the temperature constant.

I think cherry would be a good choice for pork. I have not yet tried cherry. I have used apple for smoking pork. I read somewhere fruit woods are the best for pork.

I'm a fan of streaming TV myself. My wife and I watch Outlander on Starz. My grandson and I watch Mandalorian and Boba Fett on Disney. And I watch Evil on Paramount. In between that I watch mostly western movies on Roko, Samsung and broadcast channels.

Neat trick, never thought of that, ideal for using Flexi-Track, stealing this idea too, thnx.:)

Pills... I take 14 pills a day prescribed by doctors, I won't take any more. Unless the doctors prescribe something else. I asked my doctors about supplements, they told me not to bother.
I do however sleep very well and always have.
I take 9 prescribed medicines tablets per day. I was a great sleeper until 11/30/2021 at 2am. I woke up with a start for unknown reasons and barely got 2 hours sleep per DAY until January 27, 2022. what a freaking mess I was. Going from 7-8 hours of a good dream filled sleep to maybe 2 hours a day was frightening to me.

Supplements just made it worst for me. I did end up going to a Behavioral Health Specialist, not a shrink. She was referred by my GP. 2 nights later I was sleeping and while there are no dreams I am getting 5-7 hours per night. Immersive Therapy is the technique that has helped me. Look it up online as the Therapist suggested that to me.

Not sleeping sucks

Good Morning All. Beware the Ides of March! Clear and 47° here. We continue our great spring weather here, highs in the upper 60's-mid 70's and lows in the upper 40's. Sure looks like a full moon out there, but it's not actually until Friday. Thunderstorm last night was almost non-existent, barely got the car wet. Some hail about 30 miles east of us.

This morning brings to me a follow-up visit with my doctor for the nagging pneumonia that I have had since late-January. I actually started feeling a bit better in the last 4-5 days, but I still have not regained full stamina. I have been walking about a quarter mile a day now, hoping to get up to a half mile by this weekend. Back to my regular full mile by months end. Breathing is much improved, shortness of breath is now minimal. I only used the prescription inhaler once yesterday. I did read on the Internet that recovery is normally between 6 weeks and 6 months. I am hoping for the 6 weeks.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments yesterday; Tom O, Guy, Chad, Patrick, Karl, Hughie, Moermusic, George, Louis, Gary, Smudge, Tom, Sherrel, Lee, OB Ken.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I only added some ground foam to another small blank area. Slowly making progress.
I took a few pictures of a rail car from Europe yesterday. My BIL gave me this for Christmas after he saw in in a hobby shop in Ohio. The clerk assured him that it would work on HO track, but that was all. It cannot be fit with any couplers that I have, but I like the car anyway. It is a product of Brawa and represents a German railcar from around 1905.

From what I have read, that's a brakeman shanty on the top of the car.

Todd - I also grill in the wintertime quite regularly. I don't use the smoker as much though. Rain is the only thing that stops me as my porch is not covered. I can and have used an umbrella, but I cannot put the cover back on the grill until it cools off and I'm usually in bed by then!
Tom O - I'll have to see what I can do about another overall shot of the layout. Regarding how much room that I have left, there is approximately 1/3 of the layout with no structures or scenery; just main line and passing sidings running through it. I am intentionally not developing it yet because I really want to finish the scenery gaps elsewhere. About 25% of the unfinished area is going to be a staging/classification yard and all of the track is laid. Another 20% is going to be dedicated to an Ethanol processor and most of that track is laid. I switch it out already with no structures or scenery present. Most structures have been purchased and I have posted several builds recently. I do still need to obtain some more. I still have gaps in the other 2/3 of the layout. I have some kits that I will never use; my son gave me a wooden coaling tower for Christmas a few years ago.
Steve J - My daughter and family installed Smart Bulbs a couple of years ago, but the novelty of changing colors wore off pretty quickly. Grandsons still occasionally do it to impress friends and relatives.
Guy - I intend to be rather selective about the Miniprint figures. I just don't need any "novelty" figures, mummies, Fred the Sock etc.. I like the armadillos and coyotes though.
Greg - Sorry to read of your issues with ScaleTrains. I have only purchased "Rivet Counters" or "Operators" and I am very satisfied with them. I have 13 and the only issue was a broken horn on one of them, which was replaced immediately.
Gary - Impressive boat. Keep the pictures coming.

Everybody have an awesome day.
Willie, those are NEM pockets so Kadee NEM 362 will fit, you'll, probably have to use the offset's, as the height will be slightly different, but it will run on your layout.

The wagon is actually German, and was in service 1920-1960, the majority were open goods wagons, with the guards or brakeman's hut/shelter fitted to the chassis, covered wagons had the arrangement you have with the brake/guard shelter elevated so he could see and signal the engine if required and vice versa.

WAIT!
I thought that I understood before that her car was not comfortable for "long" trips?
It’s not but..

it looks cool for a guy almost 70!

Terry looks even better in it!

Being held to a schedule because a vehicle needs to be back for the daughter just won’t cut it, we drive where and when we want

The EV choices we had at the daughter’s were nice but there are sections of the country where according to Tesla’s charger locator could be problematic. I am one of those when on a road trip the car NEVER goes below a quarter tank.

We own Terry’s car and rentals and EV charging and every other little thing can run up a bill we don’t need when we have a perfectly good car.

Uncomfortable is basically because it is tougher for me to climb in and out of it. It is low slung but I will get over it. My PT and the trainer have promised me a list of exercises I need to do when out of the car for either gas station breaks or food stops. We never eat in the car and I eat something small except decent dinner every 3-4 hours when awake. So hopefully it will work out.

Once in Texas at the son’s he has my SUV that I left there in 2020 right before the Pandemic hit in March. We will drive that once we are there until we return. I will leave it there again.

Tom

Afternoon All,

Dad was discharged late this afternoon...finally. The discharge only took 3,5 hours . The procedure had no issues. I did a third test on the last RL last night with no issues noted, so I consider it fixed. I've been having electrical/electronic issues for 3-4 weeks, so I wonder what's the next one coming up. o_O I need to get caught up on the forum.
