Well howdy there internet peeps and those with lots of carbs

It's troy again.

Still no poop action from the cat. Just gave him another dollop of hairball remedy gel. I will call the vet once they open. Poor little Lord Fuzzbutt. The butt isn't working properly.

It's 54 F degrees with a high of 85 (that's 12° to 29° C for you in metric land)

I need to hit the grocery and get a box of oatmeal raisin cookies. I had those last week and now I've got the habit going.

Good Tuesday morning! It's 61°F and clear.

Good morning all!

Happy last day of September!

Another extended summer day in store. Currently its a pleasant 59F but the high will once again reach the upper 80s.

Have the usual laundry, dishwasher empty, and vacuuming to do today. Not a big list but will keep me busy for a few
hours anyway.

Volleyball last night was a win. Think that's 6 in a row for us. We have another away gamee tonight, but its only about
25 min away, but dinner will be out again tonight.

Not much else going on here.

Have a safe day everyone!

Lord Fuzzbutt has achieved a Poo

Further updates as events unfold. Will hold off on the vet visit to see if this is the beginning of recovery. He has a regular visit on Thursday for his arthritis injection, so I can discuss this then, if things continue to move.

His Lordship is getting skittish of me reaching for the tube of hairball remedy gel however. I'm going to have to get sneaky with it.

Morning all,

60° and clear, high later of 83°.

Not much happening yet.

With the talk of coal tipples, here's one I'm familiar with:

Grand_Trunk_Western_Railroad_Grand_Haven_Coal_Tipple.jpg

This is the Grand Trunk Western tipple in Grand Haven, Michigan. I remember it before the city took it over and made a park out of the waterfront. In the same park is the Pere Marquette 1223, which is the sister to restored P.M. 1225 that many might know from a popular Christmas story.

If this engine looks familiar, it's sibling is the Polar Express engine with some minor modifications.

Good morning and congrats to Lord Fuzzbutt for a monumental achievement. I do hope this improvement continues

It’s 54f degrees currently and it’s heading into the high 80’s in South Central Wisconsin

My task for the day is to replace the 4’ of track I tore up in February and never replaced. Then hope for the day #2 is clean the main line

The grandson asked me to come over after school at 4. He wants to work on his slot cars and wants some tips on what to do so he can do them himself! He has hockey practice at 6 so we will have about an hour

Have a great day

That’s great they were able to save the tower and steam engine.

Good morning all. Overcast today but warm. Since we're on coaling towers, tipples or what other names are used in different parts of the world, here is a real gem. This one is on Nevada Northern and a very unique concrete and wood combination:

Unfortunately the site is still acting up and most of the pictures are loading sideways. I won't bother with those.

Good afternoon all. A glass of lemonade please, Flo, I have to collect grandson from school. Cannot have any alcohol yet.

48 years ago was my last day before I married Dawn. In the evening before the wedding we both had a party together with friends and some of our families. Unusual I know, but we had an enjoyable time.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 67°. No real change in the 10 day forecast EXCEPT they have added light showers for this morning! I guess so since radar shows it scattered around and over their local headquarters. Might hit here soon but it does appear to be very light, and it's coming from the south which doesn't happen very often.

Of course, we have to get out and drive to a dual primary care doctor visit 45 miles away, scheduled for 10:00. We'll then stop at the hearing aid center nearby to see if my LH aid has come back from the shop yet. If you remember, I had to use this location because the one nearest me was indefinitely closed. They're supposed to call when it gets back, but they are closed on Monday, so it may have arrived yesterday or overnight. I know that we'll also make a couple of other stops on the way back home...Walmart, pharmacy etc.
Yesterday I realized that the pool water thermometer that I was using was broken and it wasn't really 70°. The bulb had come unfastened from the glue holding it to the backer and it had slipped down. It didn't seem that cold, so I rechecked it with a meat thermometer and came up with 78°. That doesn't change the reality of putting the cover on it though.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I simply ran some trains for 90 minutes or so. Had to stop to make and grill burgers for supper. Among other tasks, I switched out 16 loads for 16 empties at the propane facility. One car caught my eye during that process. One end was mashed in, like it had been hit or something. I found evidence that some glue had once been applied, some of which had been smashed again. I didn't remember ever repairing this car, and a check of my maintenance records shows nothing except routine stuff. Mysterious! The damage while not real noticeable will take some time to repair, as it will be a slow process of dismantle, glue something here, wait then glue another part there, etc.

Louis/Mikey - I just don't look into any mirrors.

No, it's a real thing. I saw it once before maybe 45 years ago on a SLSF track nearby where I worked. It wasn't a DPU at the time, but the second engine of a double-headed train.

Everyone have a wonderful Tuesday.

Isn't it, also, a sibling to the NKP 700s?

Good morning all. 72°F/64°F this morning, heading for 89°F, but dry. Yesterday, the Talking Heads said it got to 90°F in St. Louis, but it was about 87°F here away from the city.

I found out a couple of days ago that a girl I dated in high school had passed away...five years ago. Never heard a word about it. I found out on a random search of class of '80 students.

There were no services nor a funeral that I could find. The funeral home stated that because of covid (2020 time frame), services were pending. I could find no further information about what happened to her.

I did find out from a Go-fund-me page her daughter set up, that she contracted some kind of infection in her throat. This spread to her spinal cord, and eventually started attacking organs. It started just before Thanksgiving of 2019, and she died 12MAR20. It was very fast whatever it was.

Took me two days to find this information on the internet.

My task for the day has started

Put down the tie strips for the section of track I pulled up in February
IMG_2161.jpeg
IMG_2162.jpeg

I use Central Valley Model Works tie strips. 12” long they glue together seamlessly. The cork roadbed looks wonky but rest assured it’s level and sanded smooth
IMG_2163.jpeg

There has always been some flash on 5 or 6 of the ties. However this batch of tie strips were purchased in 2/2025 and except for the 3rd tie from the joining end it is flash free
IMG_2164.jpeg

I trim that tie, grab some CA medium glue and join them together. Put a 1-2-3 block and go clean my shower. By time I come back the CA should be set

Oh boy, I have done something for the layout,
