Good afternoon all. Afternoon Tea please, Flo. Just one round of scones and jam.

Using my 'Recipe Book' tonight.
In a time passed on board ships passengers were handed a proper Menu Card at mealtimes, instead of a piece of paper.
This book tells of the time of life around ships from the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 1960s.
There is also a section on the menus throughout the time. The beauty of this book it shows and explains how to cook a range of meals for 2, 4 or six people.

Dinner tonight.

We have purchased a couple of cookbooks from cruises we have been on.

Your right, they are pretty detailed on how the Chefs prepare the meals they serve, ingredients, etc.... We did a tour on one of
our cruises (fun day at sea) of the food prep, and got to watch some of the prep that goes into it. Pretty neat to watch how all those people
work together and stay out of each others way. The bakery Chef then gave a little class on decorating and we all got a small
cake to decorate while following his instruction.

Somehow the few we tried were never as good, but alas my wife and I are not Chefs.

Makes me want to go on a cruise again soon more than ever.

I never knew my grandfathers.
One died on Anzio Beach.
The other passed when I was an infant.
His name, Oke, of Kentucky way
That last pic made me think of him.
He came north on Route 45 in the early 1900s,
heading to Chicago looking for work.
Got hired by IC and worked the coal tower near
Manteno and worked for them till retirement.
Finished as a road crew foreman.
12 kids, with my Mom the youngest.
He never owned a car...
Mom said he used a handcar to go to work.
One day a train was bearing down, so he stepped
off the track, and into the path of the other train.
Put him into the hospital for a while.
Got out, and went back to work.
They gave him a cheap clock that I have today.

The last family reunion, I was 30 or so...
anyway, they handed out the geneology book
my Mom and Aunt compiled and had printed.
There is about 90 people there sitting at tables
waiting to eat. Feeling my oats, I get right in the middle of it all. I flip to my family and I said:
"Hmmm, Sarah born 1925, Ethyl born 1926, Callie born 1927, Earl born 1928, Lilly born 1929...some busy people right there!" The whole room bursts into laughter.

Now, Oke's younger brother had his act together.
My Dad put real effort into choosing our names, and my middle name is a salute to my Uncle.
His claim to fame - he invented and patented the grain auger. Rich, very rich. When WWII broke out
he saw his son off at the station, "Son, if you turn yellow, I just as soon you didn't come home".

Just running my mouth, but since the power came
back on, I am going back to work.
 


Welp, power is out. Went out five minutes before the wife had a work call (works at home).

She used the cell, and laptop on battery but couldn’t risk loosing what she had on screen since we don’t have the internet on battery backup.

Been an hour since it went out. Checked the alerts, and it was a car accident, 212 homes affected. Estimated restore time 2:14 pm EDT

In other news, Lord Fuzzbutt is making up for lost opportunity. We’re up to 2 poos this morning. He’ll need a few more to get things back on track

It's overcast and rainy. Heard heavy rain earlier when I woke up to use the facilities. 60F. Says it supposed to have a good chance at rain all day. ut then the next two days are listed as sunny and highs in the high 70s and low 80s. That will be good as I need to apply the "stucco" stuff around the window well window and along that part of the foundation ICF. Except where the window flashing is it already had a double coat of it from before the window was installed but I am adding anotehr set of coats so I can put it in around the window and cover the flashing and make it all look nice. We're also changing the color of it around the whole house (eventually) to better match the color the house was painted instead of what we thought we were going to paint it.

I got the window well area good and waterproofed last Friday and Saturday. It turns out I had not put the clear waterproofing down the window well wall -- it stopped at the top of the window well -- so the stucco stuff was not "protected" anyway. (It's my upgrade, not one that the manufacturer says you have to do -- I put a couple coats of the clear Semco on the stuff all the way around the house and down below grade and up above the stucco stuff under the siding.). So I added two coats of the waterproof to it before I stick the stucco stuff on and then will use a clear version on it afterwards. I like to have layers of defense against things like water intrusion or other environmental conditions (like heat or cold).

I need to get back to figuring out and fixing the linear drain leak. I bought some gun brushes (discussion here a couple weeks ago) but didn't do the work yet. Had other things come up. People from church have been coming over to help with things like painting the baseboards, the doors, etc. Besides a bunch of women last night that my wife was instructing on painting, a guy came over to help get the doors off and down into the basement for the Wednesday crew to pain -- they chose to spray them and have it all set up. Some of the interior doors are solid and heavier than I want to handle by myself. We did those as well as the normal hollow ones where I helped him by organizing the hardware and then when downstairs marking them and screwing in a cross piece on them while he held them.
 
Good morning, Everybody!

First and update on Angela. She insisted on going out with me, which proved to be a bad idea. She is doing okay, no real pain in her back (pneumonia) and no fever. But she has felt better. She set herself back a day or two. But she is back on track and committed to resting. The little activity she has had over the last week has an old hip and ankle injury bothering her. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

On the bright side she let me go out alone. And no, I have not run amok, not that I didn't want to! I have worked and gone to the store all by myself. In doing so my glucose levels have returned to normal. Staying active around the house knocked a chunk off the to do list, but it's not enough to keep my glucose in line. My blood pressure MAP dropped to 58 before bed yesterday but bounced back this morning. I walk a fine line.

I can't leave the house until she sees my blood pressure. Which was great this morning 114/73. I have only been working one block, but that is enough to keep me active. I even cut the front yard grass this morning. I haven't rechecked my blood pressure. I do that after dinner.

I'm still bogged down on taxes, which must get done soon! The truth is I am finding any and every excuse not to work on taxes. I'm dreading writing the check. I have the money; I just don't want to part with it! I grossly underestimated last year's profits, now it's time to pay the taxman and the penalty for the extension without full payment. "Give Ceaser his due"

My excuse to avoid the taxes today is that I am physically tired. That is my story, and I am sticking to it!

If your power company is like Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) it will be back on early. "Promise little, deliver a lot" keeps people happy.
 
One of my issues is I can find many projects around the layout. Why isn’t glue instant drying! I found another thing to do after I cleaned my shower and then the rest of the bathroom. The transload facility is about. 3 years old but I never filled in between the rails so vehicles could cross the tracks anywhere in the facility. Now I have 2 things are the layout waiting for adhesives to dry. In the transload yard I am using the CA to adhere the styrene to the ties

Then a couple weights (caffeine free Diet Pepsi) cans will hold the styrene down

Get a 8’ or 12’ section CA’ed down and move on. I am using the tank car and wheel set to double check clearances.

I am using .040 styrene between the rails. Later I will add the .020 sheets of styrene leading to the rails for easy vehicle movement around the facility. Right now I am on a 45 minute break. Then I will replace the rugs, wash clothes and towels in the clean bathroom. Then back to lay some rail on my 4’ replacement section
 
Power is back on.

The only time they let us down was three years ago in the big straight line wind storm. Knocked our power out for 3.5 days. They said it was coming on Thursday night, but lied.

Someone had our community mislabeled in their database. They thought we tied into the subs on the north side. Nope. Our power comes in from the south. We didn't get power back for another half day.

And I finally had the wife convince to spend the money on a hotel instead of sleeping in the muggy basement. BUT, the power company said we'd have power thurs night. So we slept in the basement yet again, and I kept hitting the rescue inhaler that week. Still grumpy about that last night in the basement. So I no longer trust the power company's estimates.
 


Good day to all on the forum............

Yesterday was a trip into town for the usual stops. My Dollar General store now named D. G. Market, since they added some groceries, had Johnsonville Brats, Italian Sausage, etc on sale for 50% off and some deals on Progresso soups.
Last night, I cooked (steamed) some cauliflower and broccoli and made potato salad. I'll cook up some pasta dish tonight.

Sunday night I tested my 2-6-0 loco that was purchased at the train show and it ran just fine.
I ordered some missing parts for my Walthers stock pen kit yesterday and they said they would send them on, free of charge including free postage.........what a deal.

I need to make some repairs to my "coon" trap again today. There is another bandit on the loose.
Yard still needs mowing. That may be Wednesdays project.

Tax time on Oct 15. I gotta get all my crap together and over to the tax prep guy in a day or two.
" I owe, I owe, so its off to work I go".

Parts from NWSL (gears) for my 2-8-0 loco repair job are "out for deliver" today. I hope to get this loco back up and running. If the gears I ordered don't work, I ordered a motor-gear-flywheel combo from Bachmann that I know will work. At the time I was trying to find a replacement gear, the Bachmann parts store said they were "temporarily out of stock" on the motor-gear-flywheel assembly or I would have just ordered it a couple of weeks ago. Oh well.

I feel a nap coming on so I'm checking out for now.

For the iPad using folks who have image orientation issues. I don't have the answer, but I bet it's related to the orientation meta-data and the browser software or whatever software (maybe the forum) respecting it.

When the iPad (and iPhone) takes a picture, it also records the orientation of the device. Simple example, you put your phone in landscape mode and take a pic. The pic is rotated 90% from the normal camera UP orientation. That is recorded in meta-data embedded in the image. When you look at it on the phone or iPad, it looks correct, because the device is changing the orientation of the image relative to the orientation of the device, so when you view the image with the device back in portrait (up and down) mode, it still looks correct.

Now the problem is sometimes that when you're taking pictures of something down below, like over a table, the iPhone or iPad may be more or less parallel to the table but may slightly tilt to one side or back and forth. So you may not realize your'e getting an orientation flag different than what you think it should be. You're taking a pic of a train from above and your iPad is tilted slightly to the side. That is no longer "up" orientation.

I had to deal with this when adding in camera support to our medical chat app at work several years ago. To make sure pics always looked up when displayed I had to deal with this orientation and adjust for it.

I don't know the solution here but I bet it is related to this orientation flag and some software ignoring it.

But I had had previously uploaded some of this here with no issues, but now they are in all likelihood doing as you say, the thing is why were they ok and whyy are they now not ok :(
