Dane County but only City of Verona PD and Fire and Rescue were there. Still no clue but I’m fairly sure one of the local funeral homes is there now. Still 2 squads on scene

Verona is using an LTR Standard trunking system. It is analog so that will save you some money should you decide to buy a scanner. Just make sure it will trunk the LTR Standard system.

More about the LTR Standard system and a list of scanners that will work with this system. Many of these have been out of production for some time and you should be able to pick up one cheap on e-bay.

I've been keeping up with 3001
Just wiki'd it. glad they are going to restore it. They cut the side rods to protect the cylinders while they are trying to roll it. They did that on 4014.

Visited 4014 in 1988 while still at the fairplex.

Afterevening, folks. It's 94F/43% on the patio today, and I can't see a single cloud in the sky from this vantage point. Pretty nice, really, given the breeze.

Count Nibbley is still at the kitty hospital, unfortunately.

They found a blockage (probable foreign object) in his small intestine late last night (I was there for around six hours(!)), and were thinking they were going to have to operate today, but this morning's X-ray and ultrasound showed nothing, and he hasn't passed anything. So... confusion. They're going to try to get him to eat something, and I'm waiting to hear back.

I am stressing about that. I love my cats; they're my best friends. Thanks for the good wishes, all. :)

In other news, an 18-wheeler apparently clipped a local bridge with the top of some piece of construction equipment that it was carrying. This, of course, shut down said bridge, and the stretch of I-35 that it spans.

That single little pair of closures has managed to eff up traffic throughout the entire area. All the surface roads (even seemingly unrelated ones!) were backed up to timbuktu when I made the mistake of going to get something to eat. Ugh; I should have reheated leftovers.

I dread going to pick up the Count if it happens too early; traffic is likely to suck even on the toll road, since everyone is probably taking it to avoid I-35. :(

I suppose I should just be thankful that I'm not stuck in that mess coming home from work. Retirement FTW!

Most state laws require 180 days of school per year.
Just saw earlier today that they switched Texas to a "number of minutes" requirement rather than a "number of days" requirement to "increase flexibility". Some schools here are apparently going to four-day weeks, which boggles my tiny little mind. I wonder how well that's going to work out for struggling dual-income families where they can't afford for one earner to take a day off every week and can't afford to pay for child care...

Started to comment on the stated reasons for the change, but I think that will run solidly afoul of the "no politics" rule, which I happen to cherish (and I have opinions about our education system!). This is one of the few places remaining on the internet that I frequent where I can enjoy myself without talking about the political issue du jour in cult-like hyper-partisan fashion, so no further commentary on that topic from me. :)

@TLOC: I remember days like that when I still lived in SoCal. It would often become a neighborhood event, standing around and watching and kibitzing about whatever was going on. Usually car accidents (ugh, our street was a mess even before the street racers discovered it), occasional house fires, occasional brush fires, and even a SWAT incident or two.

And that was in the nice part of the San Fernando Valley, not anywhere close to LA proper. :)`

Hope everyone's week only gets better from here! Lord knows I could use the boost...

That's what I'm having!

I found something to do today besides drinking beer and trains though.

I decided to reconfigure my PTR91.

The rifle weighed a tad over 14 pounds with a loaded magazine and decided it needed to go on a crash diet.

I removed the SIG-Sauer TANGO-MSR LPVO scope, removed the bi-pod (on whose leg I just straightened), installed the plastic lower, and removed the conventional stock and replaced it with the collapsable stock.

There is a half pound of weight difference in the two stocks, so taking all of the other weight off, I put on a half-pound.

Now the rifle is at 11 pounds 10 oz. with a loaded magazine. That's a little more managable, and the meat tenderizer stock isn't as bad as most think it is. I ran 200 rounds off one afternoon several years ago and wasn't even bruised.

Very nice, I have a Ruger Mini 14 and 10/22. They have been very good and fun to shoot.

Or, you could just download 5-0 radio in the app store, and listen through the wired rebroadcast.

Well, I did some patio sitting earlier in the day. Headed inside when it got to 78 F-degrees. Still nice, but I had jeans on, and didn't feel like changing to shorts.

If you're wondering who that is on my computer, it's Wednesday Addams. Jenna Ortega plays her in the Netflix series with Season Two, part 2 out tomorrow (sept 3). I just started Season 1. I've seen enough spoilers to know who the miscreants behind the mystery are, so I'm watching the scriptwriting as much as the drama.

It's produced and directed by Tim Burton, so it's creepily Goth, with lots of blood splatters. There a ton of callbacks, and easter eggs to just about every iteration of the Addams Family. And a lot of Burton Easter Eggs as well. I spotted the tree from Sleepy Hollow.

As an author of mysteries, I plan on learning some fun storytelling techniques from this. I might even take a stab at writing something more goth.

Good evening gang!

More USPS silliness to report. Recent ebay purchase from 8/28 left Oklahoma on the 29th, was in Greensboro NC on the 30th. Left Greensboro on the 1st and arrived at Greensboro NC just after midnight this morning, then left Greensboro at 8:30 am. To where, we don't yet know. Ebay is still showing arrival tonight.

So Count Nibbley is back from the kitty hospital. They don't know what's wrong. On the upside, his temperature is more normal now according to them. I did manage to get him to eat a treat, so there's hope. Currently letting him de-stress (he was not happy being not at home), and then I'll see if he'll eat something real.

Wish me luck.

Can anyone help me identify this wagon
Looks like a portable emergency stop button to me.

"she's in guard mode".
Man's best friend.
He took a half dozen steps away and we went on our way
Meth-heads are crazy, but not all of them are stupid. The tell-tale sign of a chronic meth-head are the sores on their face. The more sores, the longer their addiction and the more insane they could be.
She just wants my wife to show her some attention.
Her summer coat is so different from winter, both are beautiful, but different. She almost looks like a lab.
Sugar is pretty good at sensing a potential threat.....all 115# of her.
I can attest to that!

I may have told you about the time I encountered a dozen or more of those giant dogs (I forget the breed, CRS strikes again) I'll tell it again because I love these dogs, this story and I'm old, I repeat shit. 🤪

At first, they were in guard mode, a few barking fiercely. I kept walking and talking to them. As we approached each other the youngest ones switched to play mode. I thought the huge puppies would knock me down! The others stood off watching me.

Finally, what seemed like the oldest, she was greyer than the others arrived. She walked beside me to keep the others from jumping up on me to play. The respect shown by the others to the old girl was too cool. As if she told them, "He is okay, but don't jump on him, he is old too"

She walked beside me, my hand easily rubbing her head until I put the package down. Then she escorted me back to the gate. With my hand once again rubbing her head. While the others ran circles around us.

They knew not to leave the yard and allowed me to exit through the gate and close it without trying to escape. I even got a kiss from one of the youngsters as he stood on two legs at the gate. He was so tall he easily rested his front paws on the top rail with his head well above the top rail of the gate when I turned to say goodbye.

Those dogs are not only huge, but they are also brilliant! I have never been back to that place. but I would love to go again.

like most places we get our moments
They all do. We go everywhere from multi-million-dollar homes to the ghetto, nowhere is immune.

Hadrian's Wall is just over the horizon.
How cool is that?!

Thanks for the good wishes,
Both you and Nibley have our prayers as well. I'm glad to hear she is home.

Wednesday Addams
My wife and I love that show! We watched season 1 and we can't wait to watch season 2. I never noticed the eggs. I also loved Sleepy Hollow; Tim Burton is great! Hmm... We really need to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I still don't like the title. Maybe I'll get the title when I watch the movie.

I might even take a stab at writing something more goth.
I might even buy that book for my wife. I'll wait for the movie. 🤪

Hey Louis,
Explain to me why Freeland (Rockies) acted all butt hurt when Devers (Giants) hit that HR. It looked like all Devers did was hit the ball and watch it go into the stands before running the bases. I don't get what the big deal was.
I haven't seen the Rundown Recap yet. With my Birds on the left coast the replay of the game is not available until well after midnight eastern time. Which is cool, I get to watch the Nationals when I wake up. I saw them break their 8-game losing streak and start a two-game winning streak. Both games featured young starters for the Nationals, and they both pitched well.

Back to your question. Without having seen the play but from your description I will say, It's about respect or in Devers' case, a lack thereof. Standing at the plate watching a homerun leave the park shows no respect for your opponent. In my mind it shows no respect for the game.

Ryne Sanberg said it best in his Hall of fame induction speech. “Hit a home run, put your head down, drop the bat and run around the bases. Because the name on the front is a lot more important than the name on the back.” Much of Sanberg's speech was about respect for the game, for teammates, for opponents and for the fans.

It is a different era; players seldom show respect. When I was growing up it was different. I'll use Bob Gibson as an example. Stand and watch a homerun against Gibson... The next time you come to bat he will throw at you, not the strike zone. Gibson wasn't alone, it was an accepted part of the game. Gibson was one of the most intimidating pitchers in the game!

Earl Weaver was unique; he didn't allow his pitchers to throw at hitters. He said "Once it starts it escalates. I have better players. I don't want my guys to get hurt"
