Temps 102° right now. Rest of the week looks like mid 90's.

I normally don't concern myself with the weather. It's August, I'm in the desert, so I already know I'm going to be hot. It has been a bit muggy lately, though, so I decided to check the heat index today, and it turns out that 106° with 40% humidity gives a heat index of 124°. Probably not a good day to go for a bicycle ride.
40% seems a lot higher than I remember. My friends back there are all complaining about the humidity. For those that don't know, humidity of about 10% is closer to normal for most of that area.
You're right. We keep our A/C at about 82° in the house, and it's quite comfortable except when the humidity is up. This is when the people who rely on swamp coolers really suffer (like the dry cleaner we go to).
This is what we refer to as Monsoon Season, and while we don't get much rain, if any, the air comes up from the Gulf of Baja, and has a lot of moisture in it. In a few weeks, we'll be back to normal-----just hot.

Almost forgot today is bill paying day. Already paid most of them online but there are a few that must be paid on site with check in hand. Seems no matter where you go there are some places that still operate by prehistoric rules. One of the online bill payments I made was my annual phone bill. A whopping $19.95.That's for a whole year, not a month!
Hi all! Been awhile since I've came by the coffee shop. Nothing wrong or different; just been tied up with odds and ends. I did have two very nice ARG operating sessions with some of the guys over. During the meets, Carey and Bob B. managed to get me started working the NMRA Achievement program. Bob is past Prez of the SER Region and like Carey, knows the hobby A-Z. I don't know how many certificates I will actually complete over time, don't care, but it will be something very special for me to do and have done.
Temps are going to be "burning hell" this week, beginning at 99 today and going over 100 the rest of the week. Maybe I never paid much attention in the past, but I don't remember summers being so danged hot and miserable.
Hope all are doing well.....Chris I am very sorry you are having so much misery.

I can feel your pain! It seems like anytime the LSU training center comes around with a course to teach they pick the hottest day of the week and a fire station with a small meeting room. This means the training meeting is held in the truck bays and the bay doors are wide open and the heats peeling the painted stripes off the floor. Naturally the soft drink vending machines either don't work or are sold out so you gotta bring your own.

Well, I have $26 to my name until Wednesday when my food stamp debit card is reloaded ($50), then it'll be back to Wal-Mart for some more grocery shopping. Today I picked up some sandwich stuff, a jar of sliced olives, bag of tortilla strips, can of pepper and three 5 oz (largest I can find here) bottles of Tabasco sauce. Original, jalapeno, and Buffalo Style. Haven't tried that one yet. I also found a Proto 2000 B&O F7B shell in my mailbox today. Looks like it should fit on an Athearn chassis without much of a problem. It'll be a good replacement for the blue box body that's on it now. Half the stirrups on the Athearn shell are broken off and the only replacement I had on hand until now was an old Athearn F3? B unit dummy shell from the 60's or early 70's that screams TOY. On the up side it only has one stirrup broken off. Now if I could get a Proto 2000 F7A shell. There's nothing wrong with the shell I have other than it's an Athearn blue box shell and doesn't match the detail of the new P2K shell.

Good morning. It's clear and 72, headed for a high of 94 today.
Today will be my first day back from vacation. I feel like I'm heading to a torture chamber...
Yesterday I got the trailer unstuck, paid some bills, got my replacement cell phone replaced again, and took a riding lawn mower to the yard. I also ran the C630 and SD45 I got, as well as got the replacement sound chip in the BLI steam engine, and replaced the burnt out decoder in my Delta Southern CF7.
This week, I'll be trying to figure out why my 2-10-4 derails on one turnout. It only derails there, nowhere else, and it is the only piece of equipment that does so. Naturally, it's at the most inaccessible spot on the layout. I may have to remove that switch and put a bigger one in its place. We'll see.

Terry, going back to work after vacation is never fun. I'm glad to hear you go the trailer unstuck.
As the weather man just said on TV, it's rather "juicy" out there! This humidity needs to blow away. Of course, it's going to cool off just in time for me to head to the lake for a four day weekend. I guess as long as it doesn't rain the whole weekend I won't complain.
Progress continues on the layout. I now have a concrete parking lot for the depot instead of the gravel one I installed a year ago. I'm continuing the "planting" of my buildings around main street as well. They are receiving foundations to give them a nice level place in the world. Not the most glamorous modeling, but necessary none the less.
The little people of Mankato were surprised to see a shiney new diesel come through town this weekend. I decided it was time to run some of the equipment (diesels) that haven't seen the layout in a year. Boy those things run smooth! I'm starting to take more time to work on and run the actual trains rather than just building the layout. A nice change of pace really.
Time to get on with my midweek day off.

Good morning folks
It was 75 F as I headed out this morning. The humidity was defiantly lower and it was more pleasant. I wonder how long it will last. High will be 92 F with the possibility of thunderstorms. We got a good storm last night just after dinner. It had a lot of lightening and about a half hour of steady downpour. We could use some more rain.
Last night was just a lazy night of catching up on emails and few other computer projects and updates. I still have to reload some anti-spyware software on my wife’s laptop. We did head out to the mall after the storm to grab a few things. On the way about half the traffic lights in Springfield were out and so was the big shopping center at Route 1 and Route 320.
Today is day 2 of my daughter’s volleyball camp. Not much else on the schedule yet. I have a meeting this morning at work and then dreaded paperwork in the afternoon.
I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning. It's 82° and sunny. The high will be 101° (probably higher) and there's a 20% chance of a thunderstorm or two. The high today will likely feel like 115°.
Nothing much going on today. My parents are out today on medical appointments so I'm down here at their place waiting on my mother's Meals on Wheels to arrive. There are also some cardboard boxes here my father wants me to break down. Not a lot but they're getting in the way. Last night I stripped the Proto 2000 F7B shell. Maybe I'll have time to paint it today. It'll be the same black with white trim as the A unit it'll be permanently mu'd with. The two chassis are hard wired together so the power picked up is shared by the motors of both. It's a simple way of spreading the total pickup over sixteen wheels instead of two independent sets of eight wheels.

I would say not. Or do much of anything else outdoors. I was planning to mow the grass today but it's too blasted hot. I need somewhat cooler weather for that.

The main part of the painting on the Proto 2000 F7B shell is done. A little touch up and detail painting and it'll be ready for the Midland Gulf Railway decals then an over-spray with Clear Flat.

Here in the Heartland if we reach 90 tomorrow we will tie the consecutive 90 degree days at 18. So we might as well go for the record and do 19 days and then cooler temps will come in all the way down to 88 and 87 on Sat. Whoopie
You can see where my laterals are for the septic system very plainly cepton the one that is straight out form the tank. We did get a shower a few days ago and it still is damp in the rock garden I am removing. Hauled out three wheelbarrows of stone today and about thirty very good sized rocks with the smallest being about a 20 #'er the largest is one that I could not loft but one side at a time and after getting the chain under it moved it with the hydraulics of the tractor.

Lat week, I spent my "train time" reabilitating my son's car. , Then Saturday was spent swimmin with the Grandboys, but Sunday, I got my revenge. We went to an auction, and I scored 40 pieces of new Atlas flex track for $35.00. Thats about a quarter of what I would spend new, plus inside the box was a Shinohara curved #8 switch and a Shinohara 3 way turnout, Both new in the package. Then I won a Master Series (DCC) Atlas sd35 in Seaboard. The parts bag still in the box, with no wear on the wheels. The loco was only 40 bucks! There was a lot of other HO stuff there, but I only went for what I could use. One lucky guy got a Digitrax Super Empire Builder, 5 amp still in the box for 75 bucks. I would have gone to $100.00, til SWMBO reminded me that I already had NCE, so why spend the cash on a system I would probably sell anyway? (She didn't understand that was my alterior motive anyway) By the time I got this across to her, the autioneer said SOLD, next item!! Oh well!
Well, it's my 6 day work week this week, time for ice cream then bed!! CYA!!
