I pre ordered this about three years ago! It was expected to be available in Aug. of '23 but never came in :(. I contacted
Athearn and they couldn't give me any info and I eventually gave up.

Got a letter today from the LHS, it has finally arrived :p. I'm excited, I was really looking forward to this one! Thought I would never get it.

The rest of my order came in last night. I got a new Railpower 1370 power pack, also some more electric supplies, some more ballasting, a roll of cork, also some pins to keep the track stable when I lay it down again. Also a new Model railroader magazine February edition, I think I also picked up the March edition also.

Anyways going to head to home Depot to look for some very thin thin Styrofoam board.

Guess you got the bug from the Christmas tree loop I read about in the Introduce yourself forum

Aside from picking up a few cars at swap meets, I've not bought much of any model railroad stuff lately. I've got pretty much all I need for now. However, I found something at the Great Train show a month or so ago that I couldn't resist. It's a Lionel train set, but probably not what you think. It's HO, not O scale. They made HO for about 3 years, 1974 to 1977. So my "brand new" set is 50 years old. Once I found the set at the Great Train Show, I then went on Ebay and bought a second Lionel HO set. The same one though, another American Freedom Train model. So, now I have 2 of them, which means I can put together a 10 car Freedom Train consist, though the cars will obviously be duplicates. It will still give a good overall look though.

So, am I worried that the nearly 50 year old GS4's will still run? No, not at all, for several reasons. 1) They were test run. 2) Lionel HO was good quality stuff, and 3) I'm not going use either one of them anyway. That's right, I don't care about the locomotives, even though I am a fan of the 4449. I'm going to be using this locomotive instead. A Broadway Limited Reading T1. The engine that started the Freedom Train, created by Ross Rowland. That's the Freedom Train I saw in 1976.

Not only did I see the Freedom Train in 1976, I worked on it. I was only a teenager, but I had worked on the restoration crew of the sister engine Reading 2102 for a few years. So during the summer I was engine crew on the 2101. I did anything they asked me to do, which included washing the locomotive at every stop. I only have one photo from that time that I can find, and they got my best side, LOL.

It looks like the handle on that brush is a little too short🙂

Very cool that you worked on the Freedom Train!

My local hobby shop (4 miles) does not stock the Vallejo paint. One of my other local hobby shops (70 miles away) is phasing out of the Vallejo paint line due to tariffs! Vallejo comes from Spain and is supposedly subject to the new tariffs on 4/2. I go through lots of paints weathering

I normally buy from ScaleHobbyist.com as since 2018 for me they have the best pricing including shipping but it takes them about a week to gather the order and ship. My backup for a few years has been Michigan Toy Soldier at Michtoy.com who are very price competitive, ship quicker but at a higher rate.

CambriaArea51 (Tom) emailed me yesterday about who he uses. Megahobby.com. The individual bottle prices are higher by $.11 each but when I found the sweet spot to amortize the shipping rate they come out a couple pennies better than my sources. Mainly though, they are in stock. Never hurts to have another source. Scale model paints have a great shelf life so I’m not worried about paint sitting and drying on the dropper bottles. Plus for unopened bottles I use my wife’s kitchen vacuum sealer.

So lots of burnt umber, browns, grays greens and whites will be coming soon. I’m working on the Vallejo order and then my Tamiya paints are next

For over 20 years I've passed an antiques/collectibles store in the next town
on my way to work. Today my wife, daughter, and I decided to go check it
out for something to do. Not a big store but it had most of the usual fare
but somewhat cleaner than the stuff in typical antique shops which are caked
in dust and smelled musty. After wandering around and getting ready to
leave my wife called me over to a shelf where we came in. Found the
following.

Boxes in real good shape, nothing missing inside. $15 each. A few years ago a friend gave me 4 Branchline
boxcar kits. Nicely detailed, metal wheels, and knuckle couplers and these are similar. Will enjoy putting them
together. Don't know why but always like the New Haven markings.

Don't you just love stumbling on an unexpected treasure like that?

Unfortunately for me, it rarely ever happens!

Yes, but those occasions are few and far between. Last time was about
three years ago in an antique shop down at the Connecticut shore.
Found a package of Preiser figures for $5.

Always go into a shop expecting not to find anything. That way I don't
end up disappointed.

I got some more supplies to go with last months stuff that I bought for my track.
The sharper sheet, and the sharper sheet plaster is something that I hope to learn how to use very well. I did carve some mountains out with the pink styrofoam but I'm hoping the sharper sheet stuff works for me too.
I got some more road cork some paints a tunnel portal.
Two things I like the most is the walther's diamond coal corporation building kit.
And also I bought an AHM ho Spirit of 76 locomotive. It's new in the box never opened. I'm not really sure how good AHM locomotives are, but that's not real important to me I really like the Spirit of 76 I saw this locomotive once down at the Bethlehem steel shipyards. It's probably my favorite locomotive that I've ever seen.
Anyways here are some pictures of the stuff I got for this month.
Also some pics of the rocks that I painted that are not completed yet.
