Thanks for all the input guys.
Now I understand what a "grade crossing is" (level crossing is what I am used to) I now have some serious thinking to do. This reminds me of what Jim Cuda said, sometime back, about having a road leaving the town so it gave the appearance of an on ongoing thing. while a grade crossing may not be possible, due to a 1" straight drop down to the track, there are other possibilities based on that idea.
The amount of room I have at the front is almost insignificant at the moment and doesn't leave itself to a great deal. I think you guys would agree with that. My option then, to create interest, is to "expand" the area at the front of the layout another 4" or 5", thereby giving me a little more flexibility, perhaps some room for some "small industry or warehousing" or even a siding perhaps.
If I were to do that, I could run a bridge across the track coming out of the town area and lower the height of the "current road to run below that bridge, or visa versa, I think. That would make the current road more believable and give a second road that Jim was talking about.
This is all in my head at the moment and I won't really know the viability of it until I can get to the area designated for the town. what do you guys think about that, if it is possible to do?
