SD70Ace W/Soundtraxx video

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. I couldn't get the first link to show anything. Still the sounds are nice, even with that little point and shoot cam, and the layout looks good!

Were you blowing a horn or sounding the bell for the crossings? If so, I couldn't hear anything but engine noise. I'm half deaf anyway, so it may have just been me, but the engine nosie seemed to be overwhelmingly loud.

Thanks all
Yeah the beercans are the town's temporary water supply :D. They seem to have a leak though because they're always empty.

The engine is a bit high and the master volume is only half. I have to mess with the settings. Basically what happened is when I had the speakers out of phase the volume had to be set for max to hear it good. Now that it's fixed I have to re-adjust the individual volumes again.

Nice video. Try it again with the re-ajusted horn volume. Like Jim I could just barely hear the horn.

I now have the horn significantly louder. It'll take a day or 2 to get the camera back to video it again.

I'll start another thread on the horn since I need to know which horn to use.
The only prototype one I found so far is the Airchime model K5LL.
The soundtraxx decoder has 16 selectable horns
The Nathan K5LA, Webco E2, Leslie 52M, Leslie 53L, Leslie RS3L, Leslie S5T, Leslie RS5T, Nathan K3L, Nathan K3LA, Nathan M3, Nathan M5, Nathan P3, Nathan P5(Modern), Nathan P5A, Holden M3H, and Holden K5H.
I read in another forum where someone said that the K5LL sounded like the Leslie S5T.

No one seems to make a good K5LA on a decoder. BLI Blueline comes close.

This is what an actual modern cast K5LA (with some bells reversed) sounds like:

But I like the older cast ones (with all bells facing forward, which the FRA no longer allows) which have a more mellow sound

(you hear the full horn blast near the middle of the vid)

Here's an example of a modern cast all-bells forward K5LA on the Acela Express

I have 2 of the blueline AC6000's and the horns are stronger. prototypically they overdo it. The volume is way high. Does sound good though. Maybe I'll post that one next.

I like the vids, and nice choice on the beer

That's nice, like the others said I couldn't hear the horn at all. I really like the Coors tower - it looks like real painted metal. Your layout seems like it's coming along really nicely. I wish I had room for a nice layout, one day. What decoder is that and is that the Athearn Gen loco?

It's the MTH SD70Ace with Soundtraxx Tsunami Decoder. The video was taken with a point and shoot so the audio isn't the best.
