Wife just showed me a post on X from a young college kid. He posted that he was so distraught about Tuesday's election that he was going to move out of the country. He wrote that he was going to move to Hawaii!
I don't know whether the original poster was for real or someone being factitious. He just better have a lot of money if he's moving there. I hope that he isn't representative of the current crop of college graduates.
Parents or student didn't get their moneys worth out of that education!

Luckily I don't care about weathering. I could see that it could become an obsessive compulsion. I am in awe of those of you who do it as they look cool.

For me the trains represent an emotional response so the exact "perfectness" of it doesn't do anything for me. I want to go to Japan or Germany and ride trains when I look at or run my trains, or remember when I rode them for specific ones I have, and those memories and desires happen whether or not they look brand new plasticy or nicely weathered and realistic.

Nothing I said above should imply any sort of negativeness to those who do it. I'm just glad I've avoided that compulsion.

Just kidding, but you may find yourself going back on some of the first ones you did and improving what you did years later as your skills improve.
Well my second weathering was much better, probably because i went easy on the "dirt and rust" spray. I do find watching some weathering programs, especially about steam, that some of these "teachers" are way off. I didn't try weathering steam yet, but i was growing up around steam. Comparing live steam, which i have pretty easy acces to, and some of the old films and pictures, to some of the weatering techniques, i find that when the time comes i'll have to mostly develop my own style. Many of these guys on YouTube overdo it.

I'm not despicable, I just know where to get what I like!

The trains in Japan and Germany are generally cleaner anyway. I haven't been to Japan, but Germany was my regular stop for Europe.

Two out of three of my kids went to college. It was money well spent, worth every penny. I wish the third had to, but she does well for herself in the teamsters' union working for Costco.

The two that did go to college got jobs that pay the tuition for continuing their education. With each degree they get an automatic pay increase. I've lost count how many degrees my kids have now.

My son spends his 40-hour work week at his desk in his home office. He goes into work once a month. He earns close to what I made working 70-100 hours/week as a self-employed industrial mechanic, great money. If you include his wife's earnings, we both were in the highest tax bracket. My time was cut short when my body/health failed. He will remain there until he retires. If you factor in all his benefits, vacation, holidays, retirement and God knows what else, he has me beat by far!

Not to mention the toll my body paid for working physically hard for all those hours in all kinds of weather. All the money I made can't buy me a new back, knees, shoulders or hands. Or provide a cure for any of my chronic health problems.

My son saw the price I paid to earn a good living. He worked hard in college so he wouldn't have to repeat what I did. He did sprain his elbow falling off his mountain bike trying to get enough exercise. His home is surrounded by woods and farmland, it was a relatively soft landing. Unlike me he had paid health insurance from his employer. I paid out of pocket for health care most of my life.

My daughter is a reading specialist with a master's degree and a degree in special education for Baltimore County Schools. She doesn't make as much money as my son but has lots of free time and great benefits. Her and her husband are doing very well. He works from home and my daughter is off all summer. Someone is home every day when my grandson gets out of school. They spend their summers on their boat cruising the Chesapeake Bay with their dogs.

College is worth what the student puts into it.

Well said!

Weathering is an art form. I possess minimal talent and even less inclination towards creating art.

In my world all trains are kept clean, and my railroad police keep the vandals away.

I like my trains looking shinny and new. Even old trains should look like they just came from the paint shop.

One of the reasons I call it Bruette's Goofy Railroad.

Now all I have to do is get the bench work built!

He maybe a young kid but Terry had a neighbor over Wednesday who is late 50’s early 60’s ask Terry when we were moving to Hawaii. She wasn’t kidding either. Terry told her Hawaii is the 50th state of the USA and the women said but it’s not attached to North America…

I want to use the Stu—d word but let’s say those type of people thinking that truly are misguided

It’s what makes the world go round

Education and success are not co-joined. There has always been people with lack of intelligence just like there has always been less ambitious/lazy people. The thing is now with social media they can broadcast to the world that lack of intelligence or demonstrate their laziness.

It’s a great world

Good morning to all.

Stock market. It’s always great to make money. Our son and my brother consistently day trader. Terry will day trade 2-3 times a week and has had a few good successes. It’s like gambling at the casino, if you bet big enough often enough sometimes you’ll make out. This week though even the worst stock picker (like me) should have been able to make money. Since I know based on my past lack of success I would have found this week’s losers, I stayed away

We were on campus last night for Volleyball. #7 Wisconsin against the ladies of Iowa. Not close 3-0 for Wisconsin. The women’s hockey is off this weekend. I did tell Terry last night on the way home next season if our seats don’t have backs on them I’m not going. I’m too old to enjoy a sporting event to come home sore because the seats are bleachers! Sorry I am spoiled but my back still is tender! Shockingly she agreed, or was it just being nice as I complained.

We have good placement 4 rows up. This is right before the National Anthem and lineups introduced. Those seats with backs to the left need a specific donation to the VB program to get. It’s extortion that obviously many pay. When the game started about 10 minutes after this picture, those empty seats were full, even the governor’s 4, 2 for him, 2 for his protection unit.

There will be some time this morning in the train room. The grandson plays hockey at the home rink at 11:45 so we will leave from that game for the 2:30 CST or 3:30 Eastern volleyball game on campus. #7 Wisconsin vs #3 Penn State on national TV. NBC if you have any interest. If the Badgers want home court for the NCAA playoffs in December they need this game. Terry and I will be there with 7992 other paid seats. Another sellout but not always occupied

Enjoy your day
