Running Bear's March 2025 Coffee Shop

But I aint buying no stinking bottles of water! Bottled water, WTF!

Baltimore has excellent water from several beautiful reservoirs. Pepsi used to bottle Baltimore's water, all they did was filter out the chlorine.

If I had only known people would buy bottles of water...
We don't buy it either. We have really good City water too. Run it through the dispenser on the refrigerator that has a filter to further purify and you have water that's better than you can buy!

Plus look at the needless waste the empty bottles are causing by people just tossing them all over the place.

Other than work I actually did something today. As my wife was preparing her flower gardens I treated for termites. We haven't seen any signs of the little bugs and that is how I like it.

Spring is the time termites swarm for mating and begin nest building. Any time is a suitable time to treat for termites. But spring and winter are best.

I was an exterminator, another of the countless jobs I have done. It was by no means glamorous or well paying, but it was legal! I can't say that about every job I've done. May God have mercy on me.

I miss Curt, he always got a laugh out of all the jobs I've done, I miss the Skunks too! If anyone talks to him, please tell him I was thinking of him and I say hello.

About an hour later, I got this

But, I got the dome a bit too hot, before putting the brisket on, and I've been fighting the dry spot.

Also, I'm going lite on the bark today. I've been having acid problems with highly peppered meats, so I'm playing with a different rub (more salt and onion powder, less pepper and garlic.) Mostly using Lowry's Seasoned Salt. And some ground coffee.

I just put it in the foil boat, but forgot to take a pic. I'll post one in a while.

Here's the progress from about 40 minutes ago.

LOUIS: I was researching rubs for people allergic to pepper and other spices. I used to looooooove Outback Steakhouse. Now, their steaks inflame my throat and sinuses. Post nasal drip goes nuts, and I get bubbles in the throat. Steak at home, as long as I reduce the pepper I rub it with, no issues.

And what I came up with for rubs was coffee grounds (I assume fresh, no one said). So I added about 1/4 cup to the rub mix I normally use. This one has some pepper in it, since I seldom use it all. I just add to it with a fresh batch.

We'll see how it tastes.

Water. When Sharon and I were dating my dog Bud showed us something. See my house is on a well, her house was on city water. Bud would only drink water at her house if it was bottled water. He would refuse city water. At home he didn't care if it was well water or bottled.

Some folks say dogs are just dumb animals. I say folks who don't listen to dogs are dumb animals.

Brisket ... right before I pulled it off the grill.

And the charcoal that was left.... AFTER I refilled it once.

Two issues: I let the fire go too long this morning trying to get the ceramics up to temp, so I used more than I should have. AND the Kamado Joe "Big Block" branded bag was all Medium or smaller. Nothing in there was "big". The small stuff burns faster.

Took the slo-roller cone out, and put the grates back in and let the grill run hot to burn the grease off the grates.

Cornbread is in the oven.

I don't know if you've ever heard of Evian brand bottled water.
What is "evian" spell backwards?
I'm in the sticks in west Texas and I have well water here. While the water is clear, it has high sodium and also has coliforms. Great for bathing washing clothes or dishes, not so good for drinking. While some folks out in my area do drink the water, the lab in Wichita Falls Tx. says the coliforms can cause intestinal problems for older folks. So bottled water and treated water for drinking and cooking. Some country folks just pour a cup of chlorine bleach in their wells, and they say that kills all the bacteria and the water is ok to drink. My question is how much chlorine is safe? And the chlorine is very corrosive to piping and well parts. Bottled water just makes life easier and healthier for me.

Well, you can insert my post from yesterday right here for today. Same old thing.

I did get the gears today that I had ordered from Athearn. They arrived here today via FedEx.........eat your heart out USPS.

Other 3 USPS packages are in orbit somewhere in the great state of Texas.

Union Pacific is shutting down their repair facility in Palestine Texas. Looks like around 50 or so folks will lose their jobs there. But they can transfer to other UP facilities if they choose.

Have a great day............John

4 ounces of bleach will safely treat 50 gallons of water. And that's the standard, non-concentrated stuff.
