Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 75°. Clouds should hang around all day, keeping the high around 92°.
After skipping the day on Sunday, I mowed the north and northwest sides of the yard yesterday, around the train shed. I also moved my debris pick-up efforts to my hayfield to the east of the train shed, where there are still pieces of metal roof and lots of other stuff scattered about. The county road crew was out for a few hours, but they only picked up the trees that they moved to the ditch after the tornado. One low ranking fellow said that he didn't know when they would get the rest of the junk that is there, but he thought that it had to happen before they start mowing the easements. He's right about that.
I don't know what I will do today until I actually get around to doing it! Most likely I will start on firewood for an hour or so. There's no shortage of easily accessible trees waiting for me
A small side note regarding the Father's Day visit with my family. My 17 yo grandson spent about 10 minutes with my new cell phone and cleared out a lot of garbage and apps that I have no intention of ever using. So much easier to use now! When he was in middle school, his teachers came to him instead of IT for their phone/tablet/laptop issues. He also set up the correct app for me to use on the DJI drone that I got from him a few weeks ago. I will have to practice using it once we get some less windy weather. I have flown the drone since I got it, but only visually and not with the onboard camera.
Yesterday out in the train shed, I almost finished the cardstock structure. It's simple, but you gotta let some of the glued surfaces dry a bit before going to the next step.
While not a part of the structure, I added a stiff cardboard floor in it to maintain squareness and give it a real base.
It's not yet quite complete, chimney and porch are drying in place overnight. Not that they need that long, but because that's just where I stopped.
Temporary shot with main roof in place.
I am still up in the air about using the cardstock front porch roof supports, or just using some square styrene strip.
I wouldn't get the same weathered look if I use styrene. I'll think about while I glue the styrene window sills and porch step on to give the walls a more 3D look.
I also got the replacement ground foam added to the area around Miss Betty's Diner where it washed away, but I forgot to take a picture
Troy - Speaking of Walther Cronkite, he was the uncle of my Dad's boss. He occasionally came to Dallas to visit him. You can imagine my surprise when I came home one Sunday afternoon when I was about 12 or 13, to find Walther himself in our living room having cocktails with my parents and his nephew. I was in awe since he was the first real celebrity that I had ever met close up. Three years later when we went on a family vacation back to New York to visit our family, we were invited up to his Connecticut home and had lunch with him and his wife. He wasn't here for very long as he had to leave unexpectedly for an assignment
Tom O - We already know who one of the running mates presumably will be. I do share your
feelings apprehension about the upcoming election.
Todd - It's not worth doing anything with the damaged cardstock structure. Since it was printed with an inkjet printer, almost all of the color washed out. Love the cat picture.
Curt - Belated Happy Anniversary. 46 years is a long time; don't ask how I know, (52 for us).
Ken - Have fun and have a safe trip. Are you using the bike again???
Mac - Great cartoon. Here's one in return.
Today is Paul McCartney's 82nd birthday. He's still rocking with a concert tour later this year in the UK..
Everyone have a great day.
