UK is also getting a very wet week and thunderstorms, I am diverting the extra water into my polytunnel, but outside work is much harder.my dad never liked talking about his time in ww2 although there is a number of photos from the time he served I remember when he was in Italy he mentioned to my mum about some ruins in a later and she later pointed out the ruins in question were Roman ruins and had been ruins for a very lonnnnng time, I believe they freed prisoners whilst there, but again my dad would not speak about it he only said if people thought they were safer in those imprisonment camps they did not know the half of it :(

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and a warm 75°. Expected high today is mid-90's, but it didn't make that yesterday, only 90°. I don't expect to see temperatures below 70° for the next three months. No rain in sight for the next ten days. Time for the summer doldrums.

Average Sunday yesterday; walk, shower, Mass, pick veggies, mow, lunch, nap, other outdoor tasks, mow again, pool time, train shed, pool again, supper. Today starts with emptying the dishwasher and doing laundry. Already went for a walk and waved at the neighbor lady drinking her coffee on the porch in her tee shirt and undies.

Another day, another visitor.

Thanks for the comments and likes regarding the houses shown yesterday; Smudge, Guy, Tom O, Steve J, OB Ken, Rick, Hughie, Patrick, IB Ken, Louis, Tom, Karl, Joe, Chad.

I restarted the flatcar/tractor project yesterday out in the train shed. The Atlas flatcar that I am using does not have pre-drilled stake pockets like the older Roundhouse models do.
IMG_1001.JPG

Had to drill my own. Here is the front end with chain tie-down.
IMG_1035.JPG

Then I got the rear ones done.

Next is to get the other two smaller tractors mounted.

Steve J - Continued best wishes on your recovery. Don't overdo it yet.
Troy - We have found that our air fryer is quite useful for cooking things normally cooked in the oven. Small batch stuff mainly in the summer when the oven unnecessarily heats up the kitchen. Ours takes less time for reheating bread, frozen onion rings and some other pre-prepared stuff. My wife uses it as well to make appetizers like stuffed mushrooms and stuffed jalapenos. Reheating take out pizza is also convenient. Better than the microwave.
OB Ken - Gravel roads. I live on a corner and there is a county road on one side, the other is our private road that provides easement to several properties to the west. For 20 years when we first moved here, the county road was still gravel. Whenever they graded it, the grader driver would grade our private road as well, mainly because they usually weren't aware that it was private. They finally sorta paved the county road in 2001, but as a result, the grader no longer came out our way and our private easement road began to deteriorate badly. It didn't matter to me much as I only use the last 200', but the neighbors up the road really suffered. Finally in 2016, there was a transformer fire that spread out on the ground from the sparks, and one of the VFD trucks was damaged going up there. The VFD took the county road commissioner to court to require him to fix the road and I watched as they brought ten 18-wheelers of gravel in and repaired it.
Curt - I actually don't mind doing ground cover. I do mind when I accidentally stick my elbow in it while wet and have to do it over!
Joe - Have a safe trip home today.
Mike - My wife always gets the pat-down at airports due to her knee replacements. The newer scanners can only detect metal, not see inside your body. This is because of privacy concerns with the original ones.

Today is of course D-Day. I no longer know anyone who was actually there, but I will toast them all anyway.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning all,

We had a wonderful weekend, as Steve attested to earlier. Tom in WI - sounds like the rain we were getting all spring up till now.

I spent all weekend enjoying the weather, split a bunch of firewood, worked a bunch on the layout as well.. We did a moratorium on the news in our household and was very nice. In our home, the world is not falling apart, the climate is not failing, and whatever the politicians were up to was of no consequence to us. Ignorance IS bliss.

Went through some of my stored stuff and pulled this SW-1 out. Also, another favorite box car. Also, realized what I was calling a GP-9 was actually a GP-18. Did not unwrap it, just read the label and put it back in the tote.

Here is NEW photo from the NEW layout. Finally to the stage where I am not recycling pics!!!!

Willie - Sounds like you are getting back to normal

Guy - You are really a seasoned modeler!! Very nice work on the aircraft

Hughie - You are nonstop building on that layout, nice buildings coming down the pipe!

Smudge, Jaz - The Queen does set an excellent example for humanity. Too bad our Presidents (pretty much all of them, regardless of party lines)(and multitude of politicians) can't take note.

More later, Dave LASM

Good morning from a wet and it may get wetter Wisconsin. Rains this morning and evening are predicted and 70f degrees for the high. Rains have occurred the last 3 days.

I said my piece on the Monarchy, at least there were no mass shootings during the celebration. They got that going for them. But I did read they scared some horses at a race track when they set off fireworks in Jubilee celebration.

Willie, Thanks for the reminder about D-Day

JazA, I have met very few WW2 vets, including the FIL and my dad who would talk at all about their service time. It’s too bad, maybe if they had some of the conflicts that occurred since might not have happened

Trains and then in person ice hockey today. On campus we will see 3-6 games this week as the under 18 Women’s World Championships are in Madison the next 2 weeks.

Have a great day

I know, this isn't rail-related, but I'm so excited!

I’m taking orders now. I’ve invented an HD Smart potato.

It is WiFi capable (IPv6), so will notify your phone when it is done cooking, whether baked, boiled or fried. Anywhere in the world, you will know when your delicious potato is ready to eat. Potato resolutions available up to 4K. The potato will recharge quickly via a USB C port. (Do not use the Tesla Supercharger, as the potato may explode.)

Introductory price only $3,295 per potato. They won’t last long at this price.

Can I get that in Red?

Morning all,

Spent the first of the day working through the temp patches getting the water tower and related network issues permanently fixed. Been a busy morning. Finally had time to breathe!!!

Funny how a 60' metal tower with 500,000 gallons of water can't shed a lightning strike any better...All told an ethernet port in the main fiber network switch, 8 ports in a 48 port switch and a small inexpensive 5 port switch totaled. Everything fully back to normal. I did learn how to assign switch ports to the various VLANs in our network. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks...I had it figured out before the vendor could get with me, so all's good. I do now have backup ports to the various VLANs instead of all available set to the main network.

Afternoon All,

Spent several hours in the train room first I "planted" 100 trees...OK it was only 95. After that I fixed a bunch of spots of old ballast and put new ballast down on around 4' of track. I'm trying to get peripheral things done since the sand I need for the main scene doesn't get here until Wednesday.

Hughie- Nice job on the build.

Joe- Continued safe travels and 🤞 no grass cutting needed.

Willie- Nice job on the tie downs, We had one of those visitors here this morning also.

Dave- Nice photo.

Jeff- Nice wedding photos. Savannah has some really nice architecture.

Patrick- Are you still speaking English?😲

I hope everyone has a good night.

One more pic with an interesting building on the south side of the Savannah river

It's a JW Marriott hotel that is built inside an old power plant.
We stayed in a Marriott property along River Street many years ago, also a converted warehouse with restaurant on street level facing the Savannah River. If it is the same, it has been re-branded. Son was posted at Hunter Army Airfield back then.

Good evening. 76° and clear. Trip was a good ride, 6'15" including gas stop and pit stop. Found lawn was cut, probably on Friday. Son and grand kids are encouraging us to move to the North Country. Not sure I like the prospects of dealing with snow and cold like they get there.
Everything is turned on, and back to normal, and tonight I get to sleep in my own bed.

Good evening cafe peeps

It's Troy again

Going to run a small gaming tournament this weekend. Our WWII game.
One of the scenarios is that the two forces will attempt to recover or capture a courier hanging out in the middle of the board, and escort said courier off their own table edge...

Now, I could use a generic figure for the courier. But I had some celebrities hanging out in the unpainted figure bin. Here's a work in progress snap or two of the gang of couriers. I need enough for four tables:
