Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a couple of small chores. After that I finally made it to the train room. I started by testing the new track work with the diesel consists starting at 10 smph and then 25 smph (faster than I ever will). The engines ran great through the area smoothly instead of the trucks jerking through the area like before. After that I soldered track feeders and painted "rust" paint on the new rails. Tomorrow, I plan on painting a black wash over the new rust areas. I have to admit it felt good to be working on the RR again. :)

Todd- Nice catch.

TomO- Great points. Many apply to me.

Joe- Nice photo. I fully expect that the standard of care going forward will be a Covid booster and flu shot every year.

Willie- Nice scenes. All that math will keep your brain young. I was lucky enough to meet Garry 2-3 times when his family stayed locally on vacation. He was a true gentleman.

Louis- Once again I am sorry for your loss.

Chad- Growing up we decorated mid-December and took down Jan 2. Now we decorate the first week of Dec and take down before the New Year.

Gary- I'll second Smudge's comment. It looks fantastic. Do you plan on lighting it?

I hope everyone has a good night.

Things are progressing, normally I freehand, but in order to speed up and save effort I cheated, I pulled up the picture used tracing paper, captured the main dimensions, rather than measuring them individually, there is still some technique to capturing off a finger sensative screen lol, and if anyone is interested in doing a mural I can easily do a walk thru making the process incredibly easy, although you will need painting skills, as many of us weather, that’s covered, and I can talk through tips for this also….anyway Yondu joins the pack, so 4 down….if you noticed young Groot

JAZ avalley: I didn't answer you promptly- sorry.
YES, the Spousal Units coat in the Paris photo is Fox.
Not long after I purchased it for her - was the big flap over all types of using fur animals pelts.
It’s a shame because if the animal is going to be killed, which often happens anyway, then sone good should cone o f it, I know many will say if no profit no coat then animal not killed, but actually they need to be kept down,in the UK there is a lot of issue over seasons for deer, and the numbers now are causing thousands of deaths per year on road, damage to crops, and because the animals are not monitored properly there is a lot of misery, too many males fighting causing damage, one specific place was set up as a reserve,no culling allowed, leave them in peace, well they thrived, then over thrived then starved, and there was a lot of other issues, they were being reported for ages before finally someone was brave enough to say enough is enough. over population of native species can be a problem, but over poplulation of invasive foreigners is a major issue, I see muntjac dead on the side of the road,so you can pretty much say there was a collision, and they breed at 5 months and every 5 months, one male expects a harem he visirs when they bark they are on heat, but the males get into it with horns and tusks, one went for one of my dobermans that was too close for its comfort and leafy a hole in her side,no blood no tear and it healed, but could have been a lot worse, they are not a big animal not heavy like a boar, but you don’t want one deciding to attack you!
Fox are lovely in the wild to watch, but similarly if over populating they can and will do a lot of damage to domestic stock.
Theres the argument that they are bred for this purpose, well I bet they do not get beaten like cows or turkeys by disgruntled workers, they need to be fit and healthy to have a good coat, unlike chicken meat which matures so fast their weight can break their legs before fully grown. foxes might not get a natural life, but then neither do a lot of animals, even wild animals are not guaranteed a good life,in fact nature is harsh. So, fox fur,I personally eat meat, wear leather and as such see no issue with the fur trade. in general I do not have an issue with people who abhor it, but I do not like people having paint thrown at them etc, and have in fact been accosted when wearing a good fake fur,and had to turn the coat to prove it was obviously material and the woman was still muttering rubbish about wearing a fake encouraged the real, sighs. I personally leave people in peace who do not match my exact criteria for good or bad.
I for one love the coat, your wife looks good in it, I hope she gets to enjoy it.

So, yesterday, our cat officially killed his red dot machine.

Looks like this:

No problem... Kitty can wait a day for his red dancing dot. Keeps him entertained when I'm at the writing desk, or the hobby desk, or sleeping... if I remember to turn it on.

Amazon had them. Ordered.

Delivered!

Problem. My back porch is NOT red. It doesn't have either of those mats. That's not my broom. and my door is brown, not tan.

Our back porches where the deliveries are made, are inside privacy fences. Kinda tough to look through the fence to see if it's on someone's porch...

Hmmm... which of the 200 neighbors have my cat's little red dot of crack?

Joe- Nice photo. I fully expect that the standard of care going forward will be a Covid booster and flu shot every year.
Curt: Thank you. I'm inclined to agree with you, that Covid boosters are going to be part of our care each year. Same with the flu shot. I just hope they get the flu shot right next season.

I made it down to the basement today, and operated the railroad. Ran a freight train, powered by my Reading GP40, from Essington to Lutz Yard, ran around the train and yarded it. Returned Cab lite, then shifted the meat house and the freight house. I then positioned the next session's paper plant drill, and made up another train for Lutz. Nothing has run since mid October, yet there were only a couple of stalls. Tomorrow, I have to connect the wire drops and wire the program track and the booster. Once completed, my railroad will be totally functional. It was fun.

Conrail Local out of Browns Yard passing through Helmetta, NJ behind NS #5282 on 04/19/2010. Directly behind the train is the former Helme Tobacco Co complex, (now luxury condos), the smaller structure closest to the engine, the prototype for Atlas "Middlesex Manufacturing" structure model. The railroad itself, the "Amboy Secondary", is part of the Camden and Amboy, the oldest railroad in New Jersey. There are several U-tube videos of an N Scale model RR of this line. and videos featuring "America's Train" SA-31, (my old assignment).

Evening all,

It was a different day. Had an interview scheduled and the job just didn't feel right, so I called them and thanked them for the opportunity, but Take me off your list. An hour later I get called back into the office as they couldn't connect to the mapped drives on the main file server. Took longer to drive there and do the paperwork than actually fix the issue. The network card dropped out, which is odd as it is a virtual machine and the other 4 machines running on the same network cable were fine. I am scheduling an update session next Saturday.

Got news the grandson is going to be in the county spelling bee. He placed 2nd in the 7th grade so the top 5 are representing their school. I texted him the following:

"Grate! Bee shure u spel gud!" and rimembur huked on fonix werked four mee two!

Have a good night all

Nought and 13, just in case you're keeping score of the clown circus. That will probably be it for the weekend.

update on the sciatica... appears that I caught it good and early. It probably wasn't a herniated disk, just a bulge.

I'm down to four alieve a day, and doing my exercises.

When in doubt, go to Bob and Brad on YouTube

internet

("in our own minds of course, Bob")

The idea for me was to work the bulge back in by giving it room to breathe the other way. Since I tend to sit in a C shape in the recliner, I added a thicker pillow in my lumbar region.

And another thick pillow to my desk chair.

Then I did the "Cobra Pose" from Yoga. Basically, lie on your belly. Keep your belt buckle welded to the floor/table.
Raise your head and torso up, so you can rest on your elbows. If that is pain-free, push up higher. This lets your spine expand to the front in the affected area, instead of to the back, like when you sit hunched over a desk.

The crossed legs, and lean forward also work, but B&B recommends doing it prone to support your torso.

Now, I just have to be mindful for a week or so, and keep doing the stretches.

We attended my sister's viewing last night. I'm glad there was no casket. The beautiful Urn my nephew picked out was easier to look at. My niece had photos scattered everywhere. I loved seeing photos of my mom, my sisters and other members of the family and friends.

I was happy to find my sister's children in as good as can be expected spirits.

I'm pleased they decided to bury my sister in our family plot. Lots of family history there. My Great Grandfather bought the plot in 1924. My wife and I will end up there some day.

My sister's funeral is today. This is the final chapter of my sister's life, but not the end of her story. Her legacy lives on through me, her children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all those who knew her.

My sister was nothing short of brilliant. She was a confident, beautiful, and funny lady. She was always the life of a party.

The end of every life is death. It cannot be bought off or avoided, but life must and will go on.

As my sister would I face the world with a positive outlook. I won't dwell on my losses. I will be thankful for the blessing of being born into such a wonderful family in the greatest country in the world.

God Bless Us Everyone!
I visited my ailing sis yest & this morning. 20 mins after getting home (3 hr drive), got tthe call that she was gone. Her 3 boys & 3 of 4 sibslings saw her today. One sib was on plane from Vancouver to Calgary, but not in time

The hyperlink in my post goes to his obituary. Click on it. He lived outside of Cadiz, Kentucky, a little northwest of Nashville TN, off IH-24. We were planning a potential visit the next time I went that way to my Sister-in-Law's home in eastern Tennessee, but Covid got in our way and it never happened. I would have taken IH-40 and would have passed pretty close by. He was about 90 miles from Nashville.

Willie Thanks, I didn't realize that was a hyperlink.

That's unfortunate to hear, I really enjoyed him and his modeling.
May He rest in peace !

Not to change the subject, but look what jumped into my cart today at Costco.

Wife sent me to get her the Kirkland spiced rum she's almost out of...

Interesting..... "From The Founding House Of Japanese Whisky, EST 1923" after WWI but before WWII and well Japan was pretty much leveled.....

It ain't Whiskey......notice the spelling on label....

To make a long explanation short, whiskey (with an 'e') refers to grain spirits distilled in Ireland and the United States. Whisky (with no 'e') refers to Scottish, Canadian, or Japanese grain spirits.

What radiation proof is this? 😂 🤣

Yes, you may now (tomorrow) take down your trees (those that have them). Yesterday was the 12th day of Christmas and today Epiphany.

If more people stopped putting up Christmas stuff in october or early november and waited until December to put it up, play songs on radio, etc. and them actually kept them up through the end of the Christmas season (today) I think we would all be better off.

Less build up and more actual Christmas season celebration. In many old school traditions (in Europe for example), you didn't even put your tree up until the 24th and Christmas celebrations started then not ended on the 26th or 27th for those places with boxing/2nd Day of Christmas.
Chad, reading your post I was reminded of "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

1673077634115.png

“Oh, no. My own dog gone commercial." “Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?” Charlie Brown

In our Irish Catholic family, the Feast of the Epiphany was often referred to as Little Christmas. The children would receive gifts of money on the sixth, to represent the gold from the three kings. I could always count on a few dollars from my God Mother!

Much has changed. Schools did not reopen until the seventh. Now my grandsons went back to school on the third.

My Hungarian wife tells of Christmas in Hungary. She went to bed on Christmas Eve with no tree and awoke Christmas morning to find the tree decorated and lit with candles.

The ever-expanding Christmas shopping season has made lots of changes to the culture of Christmas in the west, even in Europe.
Now we have artificial Christmas trees. Ever Increasing numbers of people put up outside lights and decorations. People like to enjoy them for as long as possible, too long for some.

It's ok, we will keep Christmas in our own way.

“Linus is right. I won't let all this commercialism ruin my Christmas.” Charlie Brown

I hope Everyone had a very Merry Christmas season, in your own way.
God Bless Us Everyone.
