Willie. There are a large number of peculiar things here in the U.K. as well as Abnormal Load on escort vehicles. 🤣

New Years Customs. First footers (First person into the house after midnight) receive a parcel containing a coin, a piece of coal, a match to symbolise always having some money and always being warm. They also receive a drink of their choice.

Oldest grandson is visiting us. He will be with me as we first foot our house; not before he see the fire works first.

Good white morning from Wisconsin. My weather apps said nothing about falling white crap before I went to bed last night. Not enough out there to shovel but it is accumulating. I don’t think the prediction of 39f degrees is going to happen.

Watched the Cowbells and Lions play NFL fixed football last night. After reading some things this morning about how the player reported and then the referee saying he never did makes me so happy I don’t gamble anymore. The replays do show him talking to a ref as he came on the field.

Then watched the Oilers and the Kings play NHL hockey till just after midnight here. Very impressive showing by a true super star Connor McDavid. How I wish I could have skated 1/2 as great as he does. So effortless and effective.

In the space of 5 hours I more then matched my total TV watching time for the month. I just cannot handle the announcers and putting the sound on mute doesn’t help because then I don’t watch. So sound is on low when I do watch. I do though plan to watch some football today and if I sit along with Terry she bluetooths the sounds to her hearing aides. The Badgers will get beat in some bowl game today and the Packers have the Vikings tonight.

Some more bench time yesterday. Applied decals yesterday and those always strain my eyes. A few breaks yesterday but got 4 cars done and they are now ready for weathering. I put back together the wheel sets and truck frames from the 40 intermodal well cars I weathered on Friday. Maybe today I will work on the cars

enjoy the day

Morning folks

Another mild (for here) one at 28F and mostly clear. If this pattern maintains until spring, I should probably carefully review my insurance fire coverage.

I spent the last couple of days scanning and rescanning some photos. I had run a bunch of these through two different dedicated slide scanners with poor results no matter how I set them up. They just flat didn't like Kodachrome 25. I think I have finally tweaked the flat plate scanner to the point it is yielding decent results. It is just slow.

I took these two photos in April 1973 at a rip track that was formerly located in Bozeman, MT just east of the depot. NP's 1100 series cars with pre and post 1946 paint.

I can see Montana getting a bit crowded soon.
I suspect, as with a lot of states, Montana's population is anything but uniform. Most of the east half of the state continues to loose population, the only two exceptions being Yellowstone County (Billings) and perhaps the Bakken oil patch on the eastern border. On the flip side, are Gallatin, Missoula, and Flathead Counties in the west. The population in Gallatin County has essentially doubled since the year 2000, now the second most populous county in the state. All the attendant growth problems are indelibly manifest. Bozeman doesn't remotely resemble the place I grew up in. Some changes are definitely for the good, but considerably more are detrimental to the environs. The drainage that runs through part of our place was accessed only by a foot/Jeep trail prior to 1980 when the Forest Service built an actual road into it. It went from absolutely pristine to totally trampled in the subsequent 4 decades.

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 44F and thankfully no breeze. I spent the morning doing chores and laundry. After lunch I chauffeured MOH to 4 store stops. After getting home I sprayed a light gray rattle can on the detail parts. We are going out to supper with daughter's family tonight then tomorrow they are coming over with a family friend for our traditional New Years Day family supper of homemade schnitzel.

Karl- Happy Birthday to your granddaughter. Sorry to hear about the T/O. I've destroyed my share and usually by doing something stupid. 😲

Tod- That's how we feel in FL when the obnoxious transplant says, "That's not how we did it in______". Fill in the blank.

Grizzled- Neat looking box cars.

Be safe tonight and have a good night.

Good afternoon gang!

Just got back from my not so local LHS with a replacement turnout, some paints and a WoWSound decoder for an engine I've been futzing with. Enjoying a lunch of Peanut butter on Keebler Club crackers. Yummy!
Grand dog is still at the ER, she had another seizure this morning. The daughter and family are headed back home now so they will take over from here.

I can agree! Most of our "transplants" are from Baltimore or the southern counties that border D.C. When they complain I am usually quick to point out that "It's a free county, ain't nothing saying you have to stay here!". That usually shuts them up.

Still one would have thought I would have picked up the rest of this in Bible college (Bob Jones specifically) especially since one of my room mates was a Greek/Hebrew major. But maybe this is mostly a Catholic thing, not us from the ranks of the Anabaptists.
You are correct, not all Christian denominations observe the Epiphany. Protestant churches, such as Baptists, Presbyterians, and Pentecostals, do not observe Epiphany as a distinct liturgical season or feast day. Some Protestant churches may incorporate elements of Epiphany, such as the visit of the Magi into their worship services or sermons around January 6th. Some refer to it as the Three Kings Day.

The Epiphany is primarily celebrated by Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and some Lutheran churches. They each may have their own variations.

In my mind Christmas is Christmas. I respect all celebrations of Christmas, even secular celebrations. Christmas has a way of bringing goodwill towards all.

I do enjoy my family (mostly Catholic) traditions. Christmas day I change the purple and pink Advent candles to all white and burn them until January 6th. That is another of the many Christmas traditions passed down in my family. I recently learned the Advent Wreath is of Lutheran origin.

There are many fascinating aspects of the Christmas season.

I grew up in the Bozeman area and left in 1964 when I went into the Navy for 6 years and then stayed in Florida where I was discharged. Worked in law enforcement for 7 years there until my daughter was born and moved back into the valley where I had a couple of acres just outside Gallatin Gateway. Built my place there and it really hadn't changed much from when I left in '64. As you mentioned, the area really has grown. It got to the point that I dreaded to go to Bozeman plus maintaining a 3,200 sq ft house and a 2 acre lawn was getting to be work at my age, I had o bail out and leave the area. The rents are rediculous. My kids wanted me to rent an apartment there but I wasn't about to pay the $2,000 plus a month IF I could find a place that accepts pets. Found a nice brand new build in Libby all on one level in a town that resembles the Montana I knew growing up.

Nice trailer Willie, any special metallic silver or just good old plain silver?
Alan - It's Tru Color Aluminum, applied many times. I inadvertently bought the Tru Color paint that's formulated for airbrushing, and I applied it with a regular paintbrush; again and again and again. Each additional coat seemed to dissolve parts of the underlying coat before I just used DecoArt Tin acrylic on it and reapplied the aluminum. Note that I had originally sprayed Krylon White Primer on the entire model. I never realized that the Tru Color paint came in two entirely different formulations. I now know that acrylics for brush painting begin with the number 8; airbrush paints begin with a 0. I hate the fact that Testor's did away with Polly Scale paints.

Yes, I've heard. I haven't tried the brushable paints yet, but the acetone based sprayable has a learning curve, and I'm surprised you managed to get it applied at all without an airbrush! I'm a seasoned painter and I had a bit of a time learning Tru-Color! The sprayable version is actually an ink, not a paint. It's totally different than any hobby paint I've worked with before, but once you learn it, it goes on well and does a good job.
