We had nice weather (up into the 50s) last week but it got colder and snowed on Thursday some and Friday. Was colder this weekend but still hit around 40. Suppose to warm up a slight amount this week.
The siding guys came bac on Thursday (they had been sick) and between Thursday and Friday got the main back wall (west wall) done as well as fnished up the south wall battens. Friday the power company shut off service and the electricians moved the main service box up to where it should have been (for post grade work) and after that the siding guys got it all sided all the way to the end of the wall. The pic of the box belowe shows post electrical service work but before the siding guys got going.
They also wrapped the add-on sun room which was framed in with house wrap. My son and I used a variety of sticky high end flashing tape to tape all the door openings but those aren't in the pic. Friday the drywall guys showed up. They were supposed to be there Friday and when I got there about 10am to get ready for the countertop guy, the drywall guys weren't there yet. Sometime between 10:30 and 11am they rolled in, unpacked their tools and gear, blocked off all the garage openings with plastic sheet and OSB sheets, got their heater running, and made an impromptu table from a sheet of drywall and the plumbers tool storage box in the garage and took out some hot plates, their tortillas and taco/taquito fixings, and had lunch. Then, while one of them set up they played a round or two of cards (some game I didn't know) with $1 bets. After their lunch break they finally got started and were very efficient and got most of the long garage done before they stopped and left around 5pm. They'll finish the garage tomorrow and and get started inside. They were a merry bunch, and shared their lunch with me and had their "south of the border" music playing the whole time. I didn't ask where they were from but I assume Mexico. (We've had Columbians, Hondurans, and other Central and South American countries represented in the various trades workforces that have been here).
The countertop guy came. As I mentioned previously we had set up the cabinets for him. He warned me that since the cabinets were not yet placed after drywall, even though we placed them all exactly as they will be but against the studs, that they couldn't be responsible for issues that arose from variations introduced intlo the system from the drywalling process. I said I would take responsibility but that due to delays by other trades earlier this year and the accumulated time deficits we had to work with what we had. Now I need to tell them the couner/cabinet area needs to be drywalled first so we can get the cabinets installed first while they work with the rest of the house. We don't really need mud/taping except under the overhang and the edges of each wall since they'll be completely covered by cabinets and the backsplash/wall covering we are doing (FRP panels). He was a nice guy and did it. I didn't realize they actually use Luan wood slats to build a life size template on top of the cabinets and take that with them to use as the cutting template on the quartz.
Lots of things going on Friday (drywall, siding, countertops, electrical) and Sastyurdxay the guy piping the heating system was there finishing off. I need to wire in the 24V transformers used to drive certain parts, as well as some controller boxes and add the breakers and stuff needed for the heating and he will come back and fill the radiant pipes and we'll be able to fire up the boiler to drive the heat in the house until the heat pump gets done. I also heard that the driller is wrapping up where he's been at the last 6-7 weeks, to come and do mine, while they figure out how to finish that other job. The ground is just not suited for deep well sgafts -- using way way too much drilling mud and whatever they use for that and unable to get more than 1 of the 4 shafts to the 300' they need. Mine are only going 230' or something like that and hopefully our ground is not like where they've been at and cooperates with what they're doing.
My son and I also cut some wood to slightly narrow the garage opening to fit an 18' 2" door instead of needing an 20' door cut down to about 18' 4-6". We brought it in 3/4" and the siding guys will add 5/4 (1") trim into the opening to bring it in another inch. Save $2k in garage door costs.
We've also been using left over foam sheets / floor insulation / etc to fill in the wall cavities around the the bedrooms to provide some sound dampening (make the bedrooms quieter), My son did his whole room. I've almost finished doing the daughters room up to about 8' (I'm not doing all 18-20' of the wall height). Then the master bedroom walls will be foam sheeted in...
As I mentioned earlier the add-on sunroom enclosed patio was framed in last week on Monday. But I forgot to tell them about where the electric fireplace is supposed to be so they didn't leave that opening. I will have to cut that out and fix it. The inspector told me not to tell him and that he'd already inspected it and that was that (since it was not structural where it is supposed to be).
