Greetings from the new computer!

Ok, I'm actually typing on the old computer and remoted into the new one, so technically it is the new computer, but the old one is still running on my desk...Confused yet??? Ken (OBTC) should understand what I'm doing.🤣

Now to shut both machines down after releasing the IP address of the old back to the system, as my machine requires a static address, the assign that static address to the new computer while the old one gets reassigned the next available address.

Good morning all,

56° headed for 88 with high humidity today.

Willie - firewood from the "new" dead tree looks good. I will take a couple wheelbarrow loads, while you are at it

Last night I found a dead Great Blue Heron on the edge of our pond. Was laying on his stomach with one wing extended, feet folded up, eyes open. Hope he died peacefully. I buried it a few feet away. It was not nearly as big as the ones we see flying over, maybe a baby?

Ran the train around a bunch, not really doing any work on anything until Saturday.

back later, Dave LASM

Good morning from Annapolis Royal,
I will be down for breakfast shortly Flo.

view from supper last night and Fort Anne…..at the end, an actual train related photo again for Beiland.

Looks like it will be another beautiful day today and we will head to Port Royal later, one of the oldest settlements in North America. I hope you all have a great day!
Gorgeous pictures Gary.

It’s too bad Terry and I have so many places in the USA yet to visit. Canada has always been a favorite of mine and I loved both Ottawa and Montreal. But we need to see stuff here before venturing North.

Good morning. While replying to Gary’s beautiful pictures at 7:28AM the internet ceased operations. I went to check the router and after unplugging and replugging it I noticed no lights. We have no electricity! That of course means something was seriously wrong as we are off grid on battery power. Plus, we have a whole house backup generator.

Down to the power room and as I entered the generator finally pops on 15 minutes past the initial outage. Nothing fried, no smells, the powerwalls look fine but we are on backup power. All indicators indicate there is no problem but are not distributing power. I just got off the phone with the contractor and he said you’ve been hacked! I have got the Computer that runs the house off line and I am changing the security codes. The solar power specialist is on his way and the owner said he will show up too.

A peaceful day has turned to muck!

enjoy yours

Good Morning All. Starting our day with mostly cloudy skies and 82°, should reach at least 102° later on with humidity levels around 25%. Dry heat they call it. No change in that same forecast for the next ten days.

Nothing special about yesterday, started with household tasks, dishwasher, laundry, etc. I did not do the planned canning of tomato sauce. Stacked about two weeks of firewood that I had previously cut and hauled. I sure do miss all of that free hardwood that I hauled from work for over 40 years, including five years after I retired. But in the meantime it allowed all of the trees that I planted 40 years ago to grow unfettered and spread their offspring about. Ironically the ones doing the best, I never planted! Hackberry trees are native to the area and birds eat their berries but cannot digest the seeds so they spread them around with a glob of fertilizer, mostly under or near power lines or other trees. OK though, as that wood has more BTU's per cord than most oak.

Plans for today include a cardiologist appointment at 11:30 for a two month follow up. Sure screws up the day to have an appointment at that time, but my wife made it when she changed it from the original one from yesterday. I think that she does that just to agitate me. Prior to that, I will pick produce from the garden and haul firewood that's already cut from the tree to the woodpile. After coming home and having lunch and a nap, I will preserve some more tomatoes before heading for the train shed or the pool. Supper tonight will most likely be at our favorite Italian restaurant in Sanger TX.

I have only had Chick Fil A food a couple of times, mainly when traveling. What I had wasn't bad, the waffle-fries were good as well. What I didn't like is the time that I went before 10:00 am and they wouldn't serve a sandwich, only breakfast menu items.

Thanks for the likes and comment regarding yesterday's post and some posts from back in July; Patrick, Sherrel, Tom O, Dave B, Hughie, Karl, Jaz, Chet, Smudge, Curt, Gary, Louis, Rick, Tom, Guy, OB Ken, James.

I spent some time in the train shed yesterday. I assembled the DPM wall sections for the background structure.

I'll be painting this, which I intended to do anyway since it resides next to another DPM structure, but note the lack of quality control on the upper second panel from the right. The color difference is a bit more significant than the picture shows.
Here it is in place with the foreground structures.
IMG_1410.JPG

I also made a decision to complete the backdrop to the right, whenever!
I don't anticipate getting a lot of time out there today, but ballasting the spur is next on my agenda. And then ground cover while I paint and add the windows to the background structure, over on the workbench.

Jeff - Besides onions, what else is in your onion pie? I have seen various recipes.
Sherrel - We still have low level prisoners from state prisons doing highway cleanup here. Not in the summertime though. In the summer, they just shred everything with the mowers.
Chet - I always enjoy seeing your pictures of the Livingston club layout.
Yes, I still heat the whole house with wood and have to keep a steady supply going. Added exercise along with the garden and daily walks. I do have to admit that we have added two radiant heaters in the house, so we don't have to start a fire that we only need for 2-3 hours at a time.
Guy - Even though you may not see this, good luck with the fishing expedition.
Patrick - Texas moved primary day up early to March 1 this year. Happy to say that all of my candidates won. Hope that they all win in November. Probably will, as I was 23 out of 24 in 2000; although #24 did win our state just not the national.
Gary - Another great travelogue from you.
Dave B - I will trade some wood if you come and split some of those larger logs in the background! ;)
OB Ken - Stay safe in the storm.

Have a great day everyone.

Wille:

Onion Pie (to the best of my recollection)

About 3-4 medium size sweet onions (we use Vidalia), sliced thin (thin is key). Sauté in about 1/2 stick of butter until clear but not caramelized. You want the onions to be cooked well.

Crush up a sleeve of Ritz crackers, and mix with a few TBS of melted butter, and form a crust in a pie plate that can go into the oven.

Add the sautéed Onions on top of the crust.

In a bowl, beat 2 eggs, then add in 3/4cup of milk, about a tsp of salt and a dash of pepper to taste.

Pour the mixture over the onions in the pie plate.

Top with grated cheddar cheese until it covers the pan pretty well (about 1/2 to 2/3 of a small bag... More if you really like cheese). Sprinkle with Paprika (I like a lot of it).

Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes until it looks done and a toothpick comes out clean. Some people garnish with chopped parsley. I don't bother.

Thanks. I had found recipes using either cheddar, both white and traditional yellow; as well as recipes using Parmesan or Provolone. I would personally use Extra Sharp Cheddar because that's what I like best. I also like the idea of using Ritz instead of frozen pre-made crusts. I grow Texas A&M 1015 onions which are the same as Vidalia without the copyright infringement.

Morning all. Yep, still hot and humid. Flo, a couple over easy and some bacon and coffee.

Yesterday we bathed the dog. Poo guy as some really bad dry skin issues. The vet has us bathing him twice a week. After the bath I got the yard mowed and edged. I'm being optimistic that we will get some rain later this week. Today is grocery safari day.

At last check, gas was $3.32

Patrick - At least your calls and texts are for your area. In the last March Primary that Willie mentioned I was getting voice mails and text messages to vote for person in a different county, one I'm not even eligible to vote in. Now Beto wants to talk to me from time to time.
Jeff - Onion pie sounds good. I may give it a try.
Guy - Happy fishing.
Gary - Those are some awesome photos.
TomO - How does one hack something that is off grid. Doesn't off grid mean not connected to the outside world?
Willie - I liked your wooden road crossings. I have a few rural crossings that I might try your method on.

I did manage some switching time. For a change I placed the 12 cars used for switching on the in-bound track at Apple Ridge as the start of operations. Then rolled the die, and placed cars accordingly. Took about an hour and a half.

STAY SAFE
LATER

thumbnail_FB_IMG_1653570601371.jpg The dogs decided that 5AM was a good time to get up this morning.
TomO - Thanks for the information on selling. As soon as I fine the boxes, I will have to get going. There are a number of boxes that I still haven't opened in a closet and with my bum arm, I can't move them around.

Willie - As usual, always enjoy your photo updates. I will probably miss my gas stove that I heated my old place with. I had heated with wood for over 20 years and then went to a pellet stove when pellets were around $35 a ton and then the price soared to over $100 a ton and we finally got natural gas to the house. The stove did a fantastic job and I replaced it with a more modern one that pulled outside air down a double walled chimney. The dogs sure liked it. The Forrest Service had been closing more and more old logging roads making it a bit more difficult to get wood because of all of the new people moving into the valley and not knowing much about getting wood. I would cut the logs 10 feet long and when I got hich enough, cut them 16 feet long. With the stick racks on the truck I could haul 2 cords in a single trip.

Gotta run. I have a guy coming in to put a back splash up in the kitchen.

Later.

TomO: I will be really interested on the "you got hacked" part. What is the computer that runs the house? I assume that the wifi connections to the house devices are secure? WPA and not WEP? Any other computers in house effected?

Chet - didn't realize you lived on US 2. One of my favorite roads, although I haven't been that far west. I drove that road many, many times from Grand Rapids, MN to Williston, ND.

Nice model railroad club pics!

Dave
Dave, Ya just under 700 miles from Williston. The journey from ND to Libby is pretty bland except when you get into the mountains which start pretty much at East Glacier. Sure, you can see them for miles before that. US2 also follows the MRL ( hi-line ) for the most part which at least gives ya something to do while sitting there. If out on 2 and if I remember correctly Shelby still has an operating TT with a fair sized yard. We got a room in the motel that overlooks the yard. Desk person said that our room was on the back side, next to the railroad yard and was the last one available. I asked if it was noisy of which the answer was "sometimes". So I asked about a discount because of that as I polished up my lenses!

Anybody know if BNSF has assimilated the MRL?

Kinda hard to believe that far from Williston, since it is just about the westernmost town in North Dakota. The Montana and Idaho people working in the Bakken oilfield were driving or riding as far as I was to get to work. No wonder we were all worn out all the time.

My first few months working out of Williston they gave us a "field" day to prep before going to the well site. That usually meant a day to rest up from our long journeys before we went fracking. After things tightened up, we lost the field day, then the well bonuses, then they cut hours. Glad those days are behind me.

Dave

Well, 2 more messages and a phone call, then a text about voting for a county commissioner candidate in a county 150 miles away...Nothing like vote once and often in many jurisdictions... I figure he's using one of the amendment lists and not paying attention. I just wish I could sue them for the no call list violations. They are actually worse than the car warranty.
