Today marks the one year anniversary of my wife passing away. The date was the 29th, which is tomorrow, but it was Friday, which is today.
Sorry for your loss then, and sorry now, my dad lived almost 40 years without my mum,at the end he said he would finally be reunited with her, true love holds true.
Unfortunately her health was already a massive strain for you, although I know from what you said you carried the load willingly. Perhaps doing something you would have done with her in better times, like a specific meal,or an old film might bring back better times.
I do not look forward to losing my other half, he is younger than me but his family history of longevity is not great, except for my mum who died from a stroke after blood poisoning in hospital most of my female re,actives have made 85 of 90 so technically I will still outlive him, if he outlives me he will be very lonely as he is not great at socialising, technically he does not suffer fools but has somehow. managed to cope with me for over 35 years. I would not replace him, and likely he would not replace me. Yes sorry for your loss :(
The good thing is you had many many happy years with her, some people never have that, and are still happy.Big hug.
On the other hand some people are married miserably for years, at least the reasonably recent concept of divorces allowed those people to walk away. Better good memories than sad ones.

Good Morning!

Wow! Going to be 65F today. A heat wave. The trees are budding out and the grass is turning green.
I'm walking the dog in a few minutes, along a forest trail that's snowless and clean and dry. The trail is a far cry from the way it looked just 27 days ago:

And here's the wife sitting on the lake just 25 days ago:

Just goes to show the difference 1 month can make up north. It's the difference between freezing or planting potatoes.

The dog will get an extra long walk today. I'm taking a break from reno and fencing.

Christian - Glad your having fun with my locomotive photo. You did a great job making it look credible. Now, I'll meet you in the parking lot after work.

Willie - I recognize one of those photos from yesterdays post. I'm so glad you retain the odd photo. It makes me feel good that there's something in them that others find interesting. Although, I'll bet my snow photos don't make folks very happy.

Karl - I've never had a dish thrown at me. Pots are a different story.

Well, it's 7am. Suppose I'll head out.
Have a wonderful Saturday!

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 51°, should clear up by noon. True to form, the NWS totally missed with yesterday's forecast. The severe storms, tornadoes and hail never materialized anywhere close to us. Rain stayed north in OK and KS.

Otherwise yesterday was a lackluster day. I did get in some mowing in the higher parts of the yard and pulled some weeds in the garden. After lunch I cut up a bunch of ham and veggies for a delicious ham salad supper. Third meal off that ham, probably one more but I froze the rest for now. Today's mowing will be at lower elevations.

As I gaze out the window this morning, I am reminded that it's almost time to open up the pool. I'll check supplies but most likely won't take the cover off for another 2-3 weeks. May 15 is early normally but is OK some years. Water generally reaches 78°, my personal lower limit, by May 22 or so. Wife won't even get in until 81°.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I almost completed the P2K covered hopper.

I have assembled 80 parts at this stage and have just 4 left, two roofwalk grabs and two walkway supports. This car (and others like it), comes with Proto couplers, which at the time were McHenry couplers with Kadee centering springs.

Well, into the scrap bin they went, saved the brass springs, and Kadee #148's were installed.
I also added more weeds to the village at the north end of the Ethanol refinery. A couple more photos.

It doesn't look like much but it is almost twice what I had there at first. I'll move to another layout area while I have the stuff out and do a little more until I get bored with it.

Departed Dogs - The dog that I got as part of the dowry in '72, lived with us for many years. After passing in '84, I buried it near her favorite tree. Over 20 years later, our first granddog dug her up. I had to place a very large rock over the spot after reburying her few remains.
Tom O - My eyeglass situation is just the opposite sorta. I had to get my first pair of real ones at age 69. I had been using reading glasses for about 5-6 years prior. As far as I can tell, the prescription pair is really just enhanced reading glasses. It took time to get used to wearing them all of the time and I have since backed off considerably. I was checked for cataracts about a year ago and was told that they weren't bad enough to worry about yet, maybe this summer I should check again. I still use them for close up stuff and reading, but they are really distracting any time that I am outdoors, which is a lot.
Mike CGW - Good luck to your wife in the knee rehab. My wife's orthopedist really stressed it's importance after her replacements.
Todd - That chimney smoke was just a BS justification for her job. Even a properly made wood fire smokes occasionally.
Tom - Enjoy the train show.
Terry - Condolences on the anniversary.

Today we remember several departed folks on their birthday, and one still living legend. Today is Willie Nelson's 90th birthday. It would have been Dale Earnhart's 72nd birthday and legendary country swing band leader Bob Wills would have been 118.

Everybody have a great day and an awesome weekend.
