Just for fun In your own opinion, which of the following picture looks the most "Realistic"? It could be anything; the overall pictures, the cars, the weathering, the tracks etc. Yes the pictures were taking outdoors. Yes there's no reporting mark ont he Covered Hopper. Thanks for your comments.
MLW...The pics look great, the cars look great, but the trees are out of scale! The leaves are too big. That's the problem with using 1:1 scale trees for a background. The trees have to be way off in the distance.
Awe, that fourth pic (D) is crap... but um I'll take it off your hands!
Just kidding of course, they're are great but the fourth one blows my stuff off the tracks, great job!
I vote for D also. I don't find the glare from the rust to be objectionable and agree that rust has a "shine" in bright sunlight. Once you get the reporting marks on the patch, you'll have a fine looking piece of junk there.
Are these Models?
They all look real to me, if you didn't tell me I never would have known, is this YOUR work?
If so it is the most realistic I've ever seen, these are real cars right!!!, I think your pulling our legs here.
Jess Red Horse.
I'd have to 'B' as far as the Tank car goes and 'D', as mentioned earlier your skill is really something! I love the slight rusting effect of 'B' especially on the sides of the tank, very impresive and very realistic looking, IMHO!
As has been noted, the out of scale trees in the background are a problem, as is the shiny grass in the foreground. Real grass isn't normally glossy! Wonder if Dull Cote would work on it?
I'm going with Picture B w/ 1 slight detail overlook. The coupler hasn't been weathered completely, so it sticks out. Otherwise the background scenery is pretty close to the scale you're after depending on the type of tree.
Picture A & C: the rust seems too sporadic. Meaning that top rust leaves a stain streak as it drips/drains down. As well the black signs are just too clean and they basically jump out at you.
Picture D: Would have been the best had the trucks been weathered along with the tank. That was the only distraction for me there.
Honestly they are all very nice. I used to live close to a place in Jersey where they would leave junk train cars and that's the only thing I can honestly compare to.
