ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.
Yes, I'm new here but I noticed that another new guy had been banded from the forum for a web link. I started up the forum this morning and there was an ad for plenty of fish .com, some sort of dating service, is that something I should expect here?
If you look at my post time of 3:58 pacific (another sleepless night) it was in the location where "Modeltrainsforbeginners.com is now. So it was probably one of the advertisers slipping it in some how. It was an image of a girl with the ad for I don't know what.
Spam ad's are not something we see alot of here. There are the occasional ones that make it through somehow, but they are usually cleaned up and gone very quickly.
Hi Mike and welcome!
I believe the ads above the posts section are all advertisers that pay for this forum. Right now I see the one your talking about, but it isn't a problem and has nothing to do with the quality of the forum or its content. Hope you join us for some good times in MR.
yep, just in-line adds that help pay for the server space and forum software. The administrator has no control over these ads. The only alternative to an ad supported forum is one you pay for. Just scroll past it if it doesn't interest you.
Aah! Now see what he's concerned about. As Jim stated those adds pay for the site, the ones I see now are adds for books from Amazon.Com
Welcome to MRForums Mike!!
In regards to the Porno links the Spam filter catches 99.9% of those and the members never see them. The downside of the Spam filter is it may stop a new members post because of links (that are actually OK) so the post does not get displayed until a Moderator authorizes that post. It's a little inconvenient but overall please believe me it's well worth the inconvenience. Spammers are getting much better at getting in behind the protections, but the Admin is doing everything possible to keep the forums a decent place to hang out.
Cheers
Willis
Thanks, Willis, that's what I thought. The ads are usually targeted by the content of thread, so if "train" is mentioned, you'll see a model railroad ad. If "model railroader" is mentioned, it is assumed we are a bunch of lonely losers wanting to meet women. There, I'll let the ad server fight over this one.
A lot of cyber ads use a phishing search as others have said. I haven't had any PM spams or email spams from here so the mods are doing a good job I'd say. Lord only knows what sort of nonsense might come through when phishing picks up on words like coupler, switching, reefer, hopper, fish belly, etc.
As a reader and see the word add where it should be ad.. I read a mathematical equation into the topic which completely destroys the theme of the text.
Mike, nah, but that girl fish does look kind of attractive.
Mil, lots of people make grammatical errors, including me and, I suspect, you. Since we have people here from all over the world and all walks of life, I prefer not to comment on them unless it's so bad I can't understand the post.
Must be my age and the teaching I got.
I had it drummed into my head to be be correct in what I do.
Spelling was a major thing in my life.
Yes I make typos, then I see them and correct them ,
I am one of those few people in the world that can actually take being corrected.
IMO, Too bad there are so many people in this world that can't , as I have always believed *the Writer* should always make the effort to make things easier for the reader.. Not the other way around.
It isn't important that I am right..it is important that I am not wrong !
I imagine you tried to proofread your post, since you're responding about incorrect use and spelling of the English language, yet you still made an error. Thus, my point stands.

Jeeze, some of these comments remind me of the forum across the street. This is an Internet forum for crying out loud, not a place to correct one's casual writing. Let's leave the jargon, colloquialisms, spelling, and grammar alone and have fun with what we do...write as we would talk to each other in person and not worry about little slips. If the meaning of the sentence is there, that is all that counts.
