Of all the accomplishments of our president, the most harmful to the model railroaders was the cutting of a full month off of Daylight Wasting Time otherwise known as the Model Railroading Season. Today is the first day you can't get in a full 18 holes of golf with an afternoon tee time. So it's time to wipe down the clubs and....

Excuse me, Dubya wants to "Simtiplicate."

"I just don't know why you can't understand. You just have to economize the economy. That is to say you have to //align// the economic economy with my economic econofication plan. Heck, even I understood that."

I'm going to miss that guy.

The point is the time is here. It's now or never. You got to stink or get off the pot.

What is your big project for this Model Railroad season?

I have some benchwork to do. I want to run trains by spring.

Now if you'll excuse me it's almost 11 am. Time for my noon tee time.

I won't miss him, Chip, but I wonder what we'll think of his replacement, whomever it eventually is...two sleeps and a wakey will tell.

I am continuing to weather rolling stock and engines, make trees, add details, enjoy learning about photography, fixing trouble spots. My tracks work quite well, but if I get the Sunset Selkirk next year, I'll have to tear up two sections and widen the curves to 32", the stated minimum being 30". No biggy, although I will have to make a custom #8 curved turnout at the entrance to a tunnel for the sake of clearances.

We don't hear much from you. Have you finished qualifying, and are you making a go of it?

Crandell,

I'm not sure what you mean. My job kept my on the phone so much that I found that every muscle in my body had atrophied to the point of jellodom.

I needed to get out and exercise and one of my life goals was to exorcise the golf demon that ravaged me when I was in my 20's. I'm not sure what score I actually need to beat that fiend, but I'm getting closer daily.

So between work and golf, I've had less time for the boards. I look in from time to time, but I haven't posted much. I have been moving closer toward getting a layout working--and that's a good thing.

Hi Chip,
Good to see you back posting again, hope everything is going along well for you.

As for me I've already begun work on the first section to be added to Ridgecrest area which is the S&A siding area and will have the High line cross this section behind these industries and wind around Amalgamate Hill with it two mines, the Copper on the South slope and a Coal mine on the North slope.

I'm going to try to get at least the main line done by New Years but that may be a bit ambitious?

Chip, last I had heard, maybe a year ago now, you were back at school qualifying for a new direction. Maybe I'm mixed up.

I know what you mean about losing daylight. The UK went back last weekend and this week has been a right royal pain in the bum, trying to get used to coming home from work in the dark again. It also means that work outdoors for the layout shed is now restricted to the weekends. I may just have to take a sickie or two this week to get the rest of the concrete down.

As for the American elections, I just hope that guy from Florida doesn't get in again. What was his name? Oh yea, 'Chad'. What a useless twerp. For weeks after the election it was Chad this and Chad that. Then he just disappeared. Useless he was. :D:D:D

Chip,
What happened to your Vitamin/Health food business? Seemed like you that was really going well for you!?

Tlak with you later

Speaking of the time change situation I've often felt that it a feutle thing to begin with and very time consuming too for all concerned.

Like now we are suppose to move the clocks back an hour, WHAT For? What real purpose does it serve? If the clock were moved a Half Hour back they would then be right all year around as in essence all your actually gaining is an extra 30 minutes one way or the other!

The Sun is going to rise when it wants to and the same applies to it setting all this time change crap is just a manipulation to try and make individuals think they are really getting some extra when in reality it only amounts to 30 minutes.

Set it wonce and forget it!!

Golf & model railroading

I thought I was the only golfer/model railroader nut on this forum. I guess not. Chip 12:00 noon tee off. We tee of at 7:30 am but I still do almost no posts or model railroading in the summer. For now I’ll split the time until December then its all model railroading. I have a lot of projects planed like a new good looking control panel which I’ll post step by step. Some fast take down bench work and more. It shouldn’t be boring winter at all.

I always liked it when I worked graves and heard the dispatcher give out the time as 0200 hours and then 0300 hours a second later. Working on the night they did the opposite wasn't as much fun. I really don't like the time changes either. Takes my body about two weeks to get used to it.

Chip and George, I was a caddy in high school for three years. 36 hole days lugging two elephant bags around in the Ohio summer heat pretty much killed my interest in golf. :)

I wan't to get all my grade crossings signals working traffic lights in. I'm still working on on a semi-realistic signal system and trying to understand all the nuances of my new Digitraxx system. I really hate the way my yard is laid out and have been thinking about ripping it out and redoing it. Those projects should take me until the next Presidential election. :D

Hey! Must be that time of year when That darn Mouse comes back in the house..... Lets see where did I store those traps????;)

Chip good see see you back in here again!

Personally now that I am retired the change doesn't really bother me. I get up when I feel like it and go to bed a couple hours after I am exhausted for the day. The clock is used for when I have to get off my butt and go to meetings and stuff like that.

On the layout, I hope to complete the requirements for Master Builder - Scenery (NMRA Achievement Program) this Winter. I am mostly done except for a lot of little details and writing up the Statement of Qualification and other required documentation.

I think they hung him :)

I haven't told anyone this, but I might just try for the Master Builder program as well. I certainly would never mention it over there. I'm not in a hurry. I'm going to get some trains running then start makin er purdy. If I think I have a shot with something, I'll submit it. I'm going to do some hand-laying (not all of it,) some scratch building, and some big scenery. After that we'll see.

I wish they'd pick a time and go with it also, but I like going to work in the light.
I know Sask doesn't change, isn't there two States that stay at one time as well?
As for the MRR season, I'm getting custom brackets made for the layout so I can loose the benchwork supports. That means the 2nd level will be a go... full steam ahead!
Also going to start my rail grinding train, complete with fibre optics that drag along the ties and railbed to simulate sparks.

Model Railroading has a SEASON? what, like the opera season? Hunting season? I thought it was a year-round activity. ???

and, MAster Builder? what's this about?

Ihave SO many questions! are there levels of expertise you can achieve? Who's in charge? is there a governing body?
