The shell of this locomotive (Bachmann GP40) is only a couple of years old (and yes, I know the handrail is loose) but the chassis beneath it is thirty years old and still running. It's powered by a Power Points West can motor.

nice and early Jeffery :)
Nice preserved 100 mph Deltic came through today for tommorows Liverpool to Edinburgh trip, seen here going to collect the coaching stock, lucky for me it was held at a signal half a mile from my spot so was only going slow.

I pressed into service some Athearn ethanol tankers I've had laying around for over a year. These are the first three of many ethanol additions to the fleet, and I wanted them to reflect brand-new, freshly-painted cars. Note the lack of weathering and the BLUE roller bearings:

These cars, and more, will be at the Great Train Expo in Denver this weekend. Stop by and greet me and the modern New York Central if you're in the area!

MTRPLS if i was in the area i'd be first in the que to get in :)
Smoke Great job in my book, the paint looks like it's peeling away just like the real stuff

Steve B... those things always make me think of an F7 with an attitude problem.. then I just think of Thomas....

Great photos, guys. Haven't been here in a long time, but thought I'd post a photo of a project I started last summer (and am still working on)--it's Deer Creek yard on my Yuba River sub. The upper viaduct is kit-bashed from two Microscale Viaduct kits.

Oh, yah, and while I'm here, maybe a shot of my new mine in Sierra City. It's an actual model of the Kentucky Mine in Sierra City--never thought I'd see it in kit form.

You know? Kind of the same thing here... But with the double cabs it makes me think of some of the EMD "E"-looking units in Austrailia, buffers than again refer to Thomas...

Nice start to the weekend everyone.
I like the rust look you've got going there Smoke.
That container crane is looking very good John. A little weathering and it'll be perfect.

I finished my CP AC4400 with the turbo charger fire burn marks this week. Thanks to BNSF Dude for helping me with some sound files for it. I'm looking forward to running it at the Essex Train show this weekend. I hope to bring home some new toys as well :D

Some shots of the D&RGW 50,000 gallon water tank that I scratchbuilt for the Bentonville show tomorrow. Tank is an early version, ie round roof and stone foundations. Only commercial parts on this tank is the spout and pullies. Stone foundation is hand craved plaster. Tank wrapper is individually applied 2x6's while the shingles are hand cut from 1x8's.

Hi all,

[ This is my 2nd attempt at posting a reply. I spent 40 minutes composing the original one, then I accidentally closed the browser and lost everything...ARRRRGGH! I hope I can remember everything that I typed. ]

Steve - interesting specimen, wonder what it sounds like - did you by any chance get a video?

Bob - interesting 'star' effect with the loco's headlight. About that couple standing beside the damsel on the tracks - are they friend or foe? Inquiring minds want to know...

METRPLS - those Athearn ethanol tankers are gorgeous; if I wasn't putting my kids thru college [$$$], I'd have bought a whole train of them myself.

Smoke - that's a primo rust job if I ever seen one!

John - great job on that scratchbuilt container jib, it looks almost as if it operates. But I guess if that was the case you'd have posted a video, eh?

Tom - the Yuba Sub's looking good, I suppose those are pre-roof job shots?

Surprise, surprise: Even I have something to share this week! A few months ago, Jerome [wheeler1963] posted a photo of a worn-out looking Family Lines 4-bay ACF Centerflo. That thing kinda grew on me, so I 'painted' some of my own decals on Testors film and painted over an old bluebox centerflow that was originally in Dow paint. This is my first attempt at 'serious' weathering, i.e. replicating the rust and grunge patterns on a prototype, and I still have a loooong way to go. I used Bragdon powders; the rust splotches looked OK when I first applied them, but when I sprayed on a protective layer of dullcoat, they changed from an oxide reddish tint to dark brown. Not only that, but I also forgot to apply 'dirt' to some of the semi-hidden inside surfaces, and naturally these are plainly visible in the photograph. Oh well.

Here's a link to a proto shot:

I still plan on applying a light gray wash to fade the logos and lettering, but I don't want to replicate all the random paint patches and splashes.

Fred and mdcustom - great work from both of you, I missed you the last go-round while I was retyping a lost post. Fred I see you're following Jerome's lead, getting into the wrecked loco biz! md, I'm that DRGW water tower will win you an AP Merit Award.

Awesome pics from all.

Tom, the new additions to the Yuba River Sub are looking fantastic. By all means, please keep the photos coming!

Fred, the fire damaged CP unit is awesome. That's a really great idea to add visual punch to a scene or layout.
