I am building a switching and industrial layout in ho scale and i have a 15x3 inch space for some kind of industry, i want to build a backdrop structure that is ever a kit or can be kit bash without to much difficulties. I would like it if the structure could add switching interest and add different types of cars to my layout, thanks for your help and ideas, i would love some pics of buildings in a similar space for ideas
Thanks for replying! I have done and that is one of my options but i was looking for somthing more interesting as i have alreddy used 1 of them on my layout. Also are there any other makes of simmilar structures?
I was looking at http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3161 does anyone know where i can get them as walthers no longer have them in stock andi can't sind them online (i am from Australia butt happy to buy from the USA)
This is the sort of thing you want Item number: 130507488484 on ebay - but I'd suggest a bit of scratch-building from styrene etc - looking at the price
I find for the price of a background building you can get a full building and make two or three out of it.
I like the modular building systems, easy to make what you want with all kinds of angles.
I'll second the scratchbuilding idea!

WOW!! That's expensive - bit of a rip if you ask me..
Rico is right, you may well be better off buying 'A building' and a few modular parts and making something yourself, I'm doing something similar at one end of my layout at the moment, replacing the rear & one of the end walls with plasticard as these won't be seen and I then have them spare walls for another project...
That ebay seller is at list or higher on all his listings. You can certainly find cheaper. Some of the online hobby shops offer Cornerstone buildings at good discounts. Also, check Walthers website for sales, many times you will find stuff discounted 50% or more.
Isaac, you can often find diamonds among the stones at train shows or close out shelves in the hobby shops. Here are 2 kitbashes I did of the same kit. It was originally sold by AHM as somebody or other's barber shop and later sold by Model Power as Burlington Mills Factory. Both are simple rectangular 3 story structure kits and exactly the same kit with a different name on the box. Very acceptable detail for a background building.
City Tile I joined the 2 long walls and added the kits back wall at a small angle. Some bracing inside and a scratch built roof of sheet styrene made the basic building. I then blanked some of the windows with either scrap brick from the kit or styrene and added some large vents. I also added several details to the roof, a cyclone vent and 2 pipes to the long wall.
The second building at the right is another I bashed into what you see. It is a bakery supply that only sees truck traffic as I needed something to fill a corner of the room. Mostly parts from the kit with a couple of small roof vents added.
Total cost for both including sheet and strip styrene was less than $20, not including paint and whatever odd detail parts and scrap box parts I added. For rail siding use either one could easily have a freight dock added.
I have a number of them on my layout...some walthers and a few from Bar-Mills, check them out.
The kits from bar mills aren't cheap, but the realism is much better than plastic.

If you want something different that you won't see on everyone's layout, and you want to move beyond plastic, have a look at the Sunkist Packing Shed here:
I bashed Eastern Lucubrator ("For all your lucubration requirements!") from a City Classics "Smallman Street Warehouse" kit. I added the loading platform.
