Coffee Shop XXXVI-2/4/2013

Good morning folks.

The process of moving the layout has begun! Boy am I glad I built it the way I did years ago. I was thinking it wasn't going to move very well but it turns out the that it should go fairly smoothly. I have to remove the buildings, cut the track and ground cover at the seams and remove the backdrop. It will make quite a mess but should go back together.

We are going to pack the rest of the house on Sunday. We won't get the whole thing done but should make a good dent.

Other than that I don't know much.

I hope everyone is well.

Good Morning - Happy Saturday!

It's 50° and overcast in Howell, NJ, that's 20° colder than this time yesterday.

I have no outdoor plans for today, so I will get back to my layout projects.

Have a nice weekend.

Joe

Good Morning

Back to winter ...for another winter weekend... High today ...29F with windchill of 16F...and snowflurries...not expecting much in the way of accumulation though...

Got some things to do around our kitchen tile situmication ...like trying to find my tile cutters...again..typical thing around this house to misplace/lose/jumble/toss in air/who knows.....so...like the usual thing...go and find it first...THEN can do things..

Next monday...get to go to Oncologist for check up routine..and bloodwork for other doctor..then echo for heart specialist...then...blaah blaahh blahh

Have a good day!!

G'mornin y'all:D

Sunny, breezy and cooler today, but quite comfortable outside in a t shirt. Son #2 recently got his own house, so he's borrowed a pickup truck to come get the Little Deere, R72 from us. We really don't need it.And his new house has a small yard, so it should be a good match.
Lots yard work to do today, gotta get crackin!

Good morning, afternoon, whatever. It's 62° with 31% humidity. It's sunny and the high will be 70°.

Got a late start today. I'm very sore from yesterday and I am moving very slow. I feel like I've been hit by a jet propelled FP7 attempting to break the land speed record for a railroad locomotive. I think I'll just stay home today and hold down the bed.

Pollen count: OFF THE SCALE! ah-ah-ah-cheeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzcrap!!!!!!!

Feel sorry for you, Rex. Before they found that I had a non-functioning immune system, I had sinus trouble 10 months of the year! (In fact, that's how they found that my immune system wasn't working. I had a bad sinus infection.)

Since I started my treatments over 13 years ago now, I haven't had any sinus trouble to speak of. Nyaaah!;):D:rolleyes:

Destruction and mayhem have taken over my layout room. The structures and and trains are all packed away in boxes and I'm tackling the process of cutting and separating the sections. What a mess I'm making of my track. I'm thinking I'll tweak my track plan since I'll have so much to fix. I knew this would damn near destroy the layout but dang, it will take some work to get it right again.

Corey, I feel your pain. Been there and done that twice already!

I originally planned to give my lawn it's first mowing of the season today. But the shop where I took it to 3 weeks ago for its annual maintenance, says they're waiting to receive a part from Toro before they can finish it. [They originally said it would be ready this past Tuesday.] I did a lousy job of hiding my displeasure. The kid at the counter said I could borrow one of their push mowers "free of charge." WOW! Nobody cuts a 2-acre lawn with a push mower. Meanwhile my grass keeps on growing, growing, growing...

So I figured I'd go ahead and install a decoder in an Atlas GP40. But since it's been over 3 years since I did my last one, I've forgotten some key info that all manuals assume everybody already knows. Also, it seems like the mfgr's diagram is labeled totally backwards from the way the decoder is suppose to fit in the loco. So this project also has been put on hold. [Karl, I've sent you an email about this.] The wife and daughters are out shopping for their Spring wardrobes; guess I'll just hop in my recliner and read this new book about the B&O Cincinnatti-Toledo Division in the 1960-75 time period. What could possibly interfere with that? [nevermind, don't answer!]

Must be one of the newer GP40's. I have a couple of the old 70's era models. They're a snap to convert to DCC.

Today has been a real drag for me, mentally and physically. Physically because I was in extreme pain just about head to toe and my knees and hips were feeling none too strong. Mentally because, well let's just say my mental faculties were 'out to lunch'. That's vastly improved during the day but this morning I couldn't even remember how to operate my Digitrax Zephyr!. Just trying to remember made me dizzy. If I had taken an IQ test this morning the score would have probably been below 70. My norm is 187 out of 200. By 10am it was much better and by the afternoon I was back to my normal self. However the pain is still with me. Hopefully that will fade a lot by morning.

It looks like the next couple of days will be nice and sunny with the high in the 70's. Monday I have a doctor appointment. General checkup and lab work. Well, time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Hopefully when they are done, they will leave you enough $$$ to turn the page on that book!! :D:eek::p:rolleyes::D

Look at the bright side. You now have a reallllly big jigsaw puzzle!!:D

T'was a funny day around here as well...and with windchill to boot, some areas north of here just got hammered....friend of mine living up near Bracebridge told me of flooding and then a big snowsquall showing up...with even more potential run-off for them today

This morning we currently sitting at the mighty 20f with a current windchill of... tada!!...14f:rolleyes:...like I said yesterday...back to winter:mad:

Not much going on today...may get a bit of train running time later on this afternoon, the again, CORY...you got me thinking of doing the same thing here:eek::confused:...anyhoooo...have a good day!!:)

Good Morning:

Right now it's 39°, and it's actually sunny here for once.

The extreme weather in Ontario might be caused by the Maple Leafs actually making the playoffs this year. Look out should they advance beyond the first round. :D:D:D.

Have a great day!

Joe

Good morning. It's 45° with 95% humidity. There's some clouds. The high will be 75°.

Still under the weather but I'm feeling much better than I did yesterday. Not being able to remember even simple things was the absolute pits. That doesn't seem to be a problem today. So maybe I'll be able to get some layout work done. Nothing special, just put some things away. It won't clean up the mess but it will reduce the clutter a bit.

It was SWMBO, not me, who desperately wanted to buy the property. I said OK but warned her that I would never let that f****ng lawn become the center of my life! (...and to this day she has never once nagged me about the grass!)
Ever think of a couple of goats?
No, the girls were still young and liked to run barefoot thru the grass...

I shouldn't be so dramatic!:D The layout is now broken into seven sections, ready to be moved. Unfortunately, some of the joints were on curves and the track is just about ruined from the release of pressure. When I ballasted, I was a little over zealous with scraping the inside of the rails of excess ballast. The rail spikes were what I was scraping off so there was very little holding the rails. When it's time to reassemble I'll have a lot of cutting, soldering and gluing to make it right. Oh well, the layout was just about done so this gives me something to do.

Five years to build and two hours to destroy.
