Independence (and Canada) Day Photo Fun

Jim, #1180 looks like she's found a good home!!! Well I haven't done any modeling for 2 weeks now, so here's a plow I found in Illinois, and then I turned around and took a picture of my wife. :)

Ron, that looks like quite a layout you built. Your client should be happy. What do all the numbers mean?

Ray, great job on the pair of horses and wagon. Looks like the horses don't want to do much work today. :)

Jerome, the #1180 is starting settle in as the P&N lease engine although the engine house issue and clearance problems on the downtown spur still have to be worked out. Engineer Spike likes the nice high seat compared to the little 70 tonner.

I wonder who made that plow? It's obviously an old MLW steam tender but the trucks look brand new. Nice bike and trailer too. I'm glad to see the wife is still smiling after to stopping to take a train picture. :D

SWBO took me shopping at the (not so local, North American Specialist) HS yesterday as my birthday treat.

I've now got a full length 'Empire Builder'. 2 locos, baggage, 10 coaches, and the express box car. 13' long. Shame the test track is only 8'. More incentive to get the layout started. :)

The numbers are turnout tags the client made until he's use to where they all are. The layout is controlled by the Marklin CS2, which is a computer controlled system. All the turnouts are digital, as well as the signals. eventually the layout will be connected to a PC to better allow the routing and automatic running of the layout.

Jerome, I love that MOW plow.

Andrew that is one heck of a train. It would give me incentive to build a bigger layout just to run that thing. Until then, maybe a trip to the local MRR club is in order.

OK, It's time for some of the night time pictures. Basically the lights were dimmed way down.

The industrial area.

Thanks for checking things out. The only major thing to do now is install the catenary at the tunnel entrances for now. Later the rest of the track runs will be under wire.

I was finishing up gluing this one together the night before we left town. It'll be the main office building for my JTEX switchers rebuilding shops once I get started on it later this summer. It's a Walther's Cornerstone series Washington Salvage building.

Great photos everyone.

Jerome, I'm shocked! No switcher photos! Are you feeling ok? :D

That's a very nice looking kit, I may have to get me one of those.

I've been working on the Cement plant for my club layout. We are combining two Walthers Valley Cement kits into one large facility. I spliced the clinker buildings together so there will be two kilns side by side. I also spliced the blending buildings together too. Both are weathered and 99% done. Now on to the kilns! I've also got to scratch build some pre-heater towers for in front of the blending building.

Fred, I've been traveling the mid west for the last 2 weeks on the motorcycle with the wife. I need a break from switchers once in a while LOL ;)

very cool!! must've been a nice little bill in the end. :D

A new fleet of F units arrived this Friday.

Blueline F7 A-B-B-A
A's are powered
B's are dummys

these run very nice. one unit will pull both dummys and 28 empty cars around my layout with aprox 3% grades on 22" radi. Havent run them much as I left for Milwaukee's summer fest 30 mins after UPS dropped them off.

hope all had a great 4th of july

I've been working on this little guy for a little bit now along with one of it's sister units. This is Montana Rail Link's GP35 #404 still in its GWRX colors that it was purchased in. Montana Rail Link purchased 4 of these in '96. Three units were ex. D&RGW and one was an SP unit. The SP unit became Number 406 which was first to be painted in MRL colors. 403-405 followed. Seen here is #404 with 406 the two engines that ran the local from Livingston to Bozeman, Mt (the town I lived in). I'm also working on Number 405 but still have a ways to go.

Jerome,

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that the basis of that plow is an old Illinois Central "cistern" -- an auxillary water tender. Following the demise of steam, the ICRR made use of many of the "cisterns" in other roles. I recall having seen one used to store sand in Indianapolis.

Tom Stockton

I do believe that is the root of the Frisco 1522's auxiliary tender. It had been converted to a sand storage car and then re-converted to a water tender...

That plow along with this caboose were sitting in Iroquois, Il. They were on the Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern. They also had this engine sitting at there shop just north of town.
