Good Morning All. Clear and 39°, but the wind stopped around dusk last night. It did make it to 64° yesterday despite the NW wind averaging over 25 mph all day. Warmer today and the rest of the 10 day forecast. Maybe rain on Saturday, 15% chance.
Back to the regular routine today with the weekly grocery trek, big list already. Additional stops at the pharmacy and the UPS store to send the heart monitor back. I think that I posted a month ago that the electrocardiologist fitted me with one to wear for a month. It picked up one "event" of atrial flutter early on; I don't know of any more. It came with a prepaid UPS envelope to send to a lab in Arizona for a full analysis. I already have an ablation procedure scheduled for December if needed. That's a procedure where they insert a catheter and go find certain cells and destroy them, cells that are causing the flutter. It's done in the hospital and you're generally released the same day, like a stent only a different procedure.
Had another round of PT yesterday, wore me down a bit but I didn't have to take a Tylenol afterwards, so that's good. Last night was the second night in a row that I slept 5.5 hours before the first bathroom run. Typically I go for four hours.
Wife had a doctor's appointment in Denton yesterday and my daughter met her there and dropped the granddog off for a week or so with us while she/SIL head for Austin to visit my grandson in college there. Our 17 year old grandson will be home alone, but will be at school or a golf tournament and can't take care of Mollie. It's being overly cautious since I know from past visits to our house that the dog can go for 12 hours without being let outside. Grandson is a standout on his high school golf team as a junior. Our other daughter who lives about 2 miles away will drive by to ensure that there are no wild parties at their house.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued to paint the handrails on the Walther's GP9U. Second coat on the rear and the left side, and a partial coat on the engineer's side before my eyes started to become crossed. To occupy my time waiting for paint to dry and those rest breaks, I pulled out a structure kit that I had forgotten that I bought. I think that I got it in 2023 at the Plano Train Show. The kit is a Hydrocal kit from
Downtown Deco called Addams Ave Part 3.
I love these kits from DD. I have 7 others on the layout already. They're somewhat simple in that they're just 4 Hydrocal castings for the walls, but the detailing in those walls is fantastic. It does take a lot of patience though, to paint them into something remarkable.
All of Randy's kits come with Grandt Line windows and doors.
It will be a bitch however, to trim the clear styrene glass for those arched top panes.
Yesterday, I filed away the excess plaster and primed both sides of the castings with white rattle-can paint from Krylon. This initial sealing coat makes painting them a whole lot easier later.
I assembled the first two walls using Walther's Goo and I am letting it sit overnight. I have found that doing wall assembly slowly works best with these kits.
That seam will be partly filled with Testor's Putty and be further disguised with a scratchbuilt downspout.
The next step will be to attach wall #3 and let it dry overnight again. And I will paint the windows and hopefully start on the glass. I can also work on the signs now to be attached later.
Troy -
I dumped half a bottle of Tamiya Orange plastic cement yesterday.
I hate it when I do that as some invariably spills over the edge of the workbench and on to my pants. And then there is the lingering smell!
Tom O - I have no songs from Springsteen's
Nebraska album on my playlist of over 6000 songs on the iPod. I don't know if I posted back in August, that I bought a refurbished iPod to replace my old one that had finally failed. I had 45,000 songs on it but I haven't had the time to load that many on this one yet. I'm still just an old-tech guy. I already have the music, no need to pay for streaming.
Joe - I look at the medical profession as a necessary evil. And from my experience, once you are on Medicare, they game the system because they can do it easily. All under the guise of "Medicare guidelines". The doctor visits increase at least five-fold because they view it as a steady income stream, especially if the patient (me) has supplemental insurance to cover the shortened Medicare payments. My employer insurance scrutinized visits/payments much more closely than Medicare.
As far as what else the NP is putting on the form, in my case there's nothing there that I don't approve of. They post all of that paperwork on my personal health portal on the web and I look it over every time. The whole thing boils down to being able to find a good health care provider to begin with. I still use my same primary care guy, who is now 45 miles away because he moved his office to a more distant town, because I trust him the most. At least he's not too outwardly unscrupulous.
Looks like the Stock Market might be retreating slightly this morning. I'll watch but I will not sell; I made a killing earlier this week already...all on paper though.
Singer Grace Slick of The Jefferson Airplane/Starship is 86 today. I saw her several times in the late 60's and early 70's.
Everyone have a fabulous Thursday.
