My SIL and her husband bought silver in 1980 as an investment at $52/oz, a lot of it at the time, in excess of 1000 ozs. It immediately went down and has not reached that $52/oz level again until today, finally! Not much of an investment considering inflation in the last 45 years. I'm not sure if they held it this long, or took their losses years ago.
Sounds like they got caught in the Hunt Brothers Silver manipulation scandal of 1980. The government bailed them out…

The son has been texting this afternoon! He built a new computer this weekend and this morning started to add Microsoft software. He said that started the project from hell and decided decided he needed Microsoft’s help. 4 hour wait time so instead of waiting he went to Ai.

From the son—

Got into windows activation hell.

So I asked chat gpt and it gave me a bunch of terminal commands and things I’ve never heard of to do and fixes. That didn’t work.

So I took a picture of the errors on screen and gave it to it and it said “oh, whoops, my fault, do this:”

And it was more stuff I’d never know and it worked.

Two typed questions and a picture of the problem. 5 minutes

That is interesting and while I’d love to jump into Ai, I have no reason or need

Maybe this can help someone here with the next Microsoft issue though

i sold this layout. i made the decision that i will not build further on this, so i sold it.
on sunday the guy get here and picked it up. so now i have again some space for another "project".
for that i had first to build some stands.

i built it out of some leftover wood from my (old) balcony floor.

on sunday between coffee with friends, and some talking i did organize all the colors.
now one corner in my layout room looks like a shop haha. but iam only selling the stuff online.
but it looks great in that corner, and clean. so i still have some space left for my other projects. and now that all the colors are back in the stand, my workbench is free to get back to some layout builds. woohoo

cheers
Marco
Looks like what you need is more paint! 😜😜

Well, we needed the rain, but I am over it now. it has been rainy for the past week and it will continue into next week. Not a lot, just enough to get in the way. I need to get working on finishing the insulation in my car. Have to install dense material to dampen vibration, thinsulate for heat and noise, and mylar for heat and dust. That's going to take removing all the side panels and the headliner. I'm figuring two days. Guessers say I don't have a two day window.

I hope that we don't go from super hot and humid, to wet and rainy, straight into freezing. I'd like a few weeks of perfect inbetween.

I think that’s what happens when you live in a place with a monsoon and then typhoon season.

Good luck. We’ve been getting rain which puts a crimp in my getting stuff done outside on the house. We had several days last week that were nice that I got a bunch of stuff done but then they said it was going to rain Friday through Sunday. Well Friday did get a sprinkle or two as did Saturday. It it was mostly nice. But because of the forecast and not knowing if it would actual decently rain I didn’t do stuff as it require dry time to dry and cure the coatings. Saturday evening it did rain. Like a hurricane for 30 min of very high winds and belting rain. The it just rained. A lot. But Sunday was actually quite nice.

Weather guesses and we’d have about 3 days of nice weather before it it stormed agaj. So I planned to get some stuff done on the outside. But this morning the forecast started to have a chance for rain starting at 5pm. Which later moved to 6pm. So I went out and sprayed some foam insulation into a hole between a rock and the foundation at the bottom of the window well (actually underneath the bottom of the physical window well) and when it was hard enough I gooped a heavy layer of waterproofing on it and then laid a board to block most drips on to it. Then I place a 2x8 or 2x10 across the top of the window well at the house — pressing up against the house. And another across the far side of the window well. And then an old sheet of OSB across the window well on top of the 2x. This gives it an air gap to get air circulation. I pressed the 2x and OSB up against the foundation but there is still a small crack that water can drip down. I had left it like this last and also never the weekend when it rained but you still got drips. So intok a 6’ wide by about. 6” tall of thin painters plastic and stuffed it into the crack and then out a wide strip of the green Frog Tape on the foundation wall, over the crack, and onto the OSB. As long as it just rains and. I string windows it should keep most of the water out from dripping down and messing up the latest water proofing I put on the foam. We’ll see.

Evening fellers. I'm back again. I'll try to keep up with check ins a little more often than every six months. I meant to share my latest purchase from lhs. I happened to stumble upon these.

He had these at $15 a piece. A steal for me as I know the ones I have were a little bit more pricey. So I snagged em up.
Willie- the layout still stands. I haven't had the heart to tear it down. Still works too. I make my way down there to still run my trains.
That's all I have for now. I hope everyone is doing well and has a good night.

Yes, they did. But I have always questioned some of their investment choices, including that one. Charlie also invested in gold jewelry which I pointed out was a bad investment, because a woman never parts with her gold jewelry! Another investment that he has made, and is still making, is LGB trains. He has a whole 240 sq ft room with floor to ceiling shelves holding hundreds of engines/freight cars that have never even been removed from their boxes. He has admitted that he owns less than 25' of track, so he can't even run them. His heirs will benefit though!

Good evening folks, 70 here after hitting 87 with lots of sunshine. My wife met me after I got off work, picked me up and we went to the new Whataburger in town. She even treated! I like this, but she made sure to tell me not to get too used to it. Off til Friday, so looking forward to a couple of easy days.

Trianz buys our "toys", including LGB trains. At a fraction of the value. Their Buying Team makes cash offers and offers a consignment service if you’d prefer to sell through them at market value. For a fee of course.

With a collection like that his heirs will still get a pretty penny!

Not to mention the joy and satisfaction that he got from collecting them, which is priceless.
