NOT POLITICAL but: I see Mr. Tesla, Elon Musk is now worth $500 billion, just an obscene amount, IMO.

He earned his and I earned mine.....not as much as he did, but he took more risks. ;)

Hell, Oprah is worth almost $4B. Good for her too.

Now if we're talking about Congress Critters wealth......that wasn't earned.
The ratio’s are off. Mush has many thousand % more than the average American. Most of his risks though were with others money, but he’s done well for himself and others. Oprah did earn her money as did my brother and many more. I know better than to think any billionaire owes us anything but philanthropy on their own would be nice.

Congress Gritters, I removed my suggestion

Hey Louis,
I really hope your wife's recovery is almost back to normal. You, being the caregiver can be a lot harder than being the patient sometimes....BTDT several times with my wife. Lots of respect to you.
Thank you, I appreciate all of that.

Angela has mostly been maintenance free. I once said to my late sister Cathy "Angela is like the energizer bunny" she stopped me mid-sentence, "She is not; she is human!" Her words ring true when my little Angel suffers any injury or health problem, as few as they are.

The truth is I am the frail one, one disaster after another. She often carries the burden. By the Grace of God, I always have the strength to care for her when she needs me.

Now for an update on my little Angel. She is doing good; rest has proven to be the best medicine. Tomorrow, she will finish the antibiotics and has a follow up appointment with the doctor.

The CAT scan also revealed she has a hernia that needs to be repaired. They said it is not an emergency so her appointment with the surgeon isn't until the end of the month. In the meantime, we must watch for any sign of trouble.

Baseball time! I just saw the Mason Miller 104mph pitch. Fast and in the strike zone. I watched it slow motion just to see his biomechanics at work.
It is amazing, it is indeed rare to see such velocity and command at the same time.

A friend on another forum posted this cat that was hunting livestock and getting too close to some human residences last spring.

We’ve had at least two cats (cougar/mountain lion) in our neighborhood this year.

A few days ago someone posted a video of one just sitting in their backyard in the middle of the night. It then gets up and wanders off. Caught on a security camera. That was about 3/4 from my house. There are a bunch of town homes and it was in one of the backyards there. Really really close to where we used to live. (The town homes are on the same street I am on but across a “major” in-subdivision street.)

Earlier this year someone posted a video to our neighborhood FB page of one running down the sidewalk along the major street on the south side of our development. They were driving along the street and saw it. In the video you see it jump into a backyard that abuts the sidewalk as the car passes. That was 1/4-1/2 mile from my house.

I still go walking at night around the neighborhood. I figure the cats try and stay away from people. And I definitely would give them wide berth.

The “scariest” thing I’ve seen myself out walk was a snake absorbing heat from the sidewalk. It was around midnight and directly across the street from my house. July or early August iirc. I was almost done with a late evening walk and was walking on the sidewalk across from my house up to the mailbox cluster which is where I turn around and cross the street and go home. I almost stepped on it but saw it at the last minute. I stepped back and took a couple pics as it slithered off. The concrete was still warm I’m sure after sitting in the beating sun all day and Mr Snake was just warming himself.

Here is an example of a rotated photo. The orientation and data format aren’t in sync.

The only big cats in our neighborhood are the domestic type, like Lord fluffybutt. We do however have coyotes and black bears. They are pretty bashful. As soon as you see them they run. The foxes are more brave, but still skittish. The trash pandas (raccoons), opossums and skunks visit the back yard occasionally and drive the dogs nuts!

Afternoon all,

Started to post this morning and got called away. Then it was time to go home, so I'm home. Server updates Saturday, so I gotta work.

Going to the middle granddaughter's volleyball games in a bit. Then watch her cheer for the middle school football team. Both 7th grade granddaughter's are on the cheer squads for their respective schools. Difference for the younger of the 2 is her school is so small, they need players for the sports teams as well.

Dr. ordered me a sleep study, so after waiting 30 minutes on hold, I decided to go online, almost complete with the forms when an error pops up and says connection lost, please contact customer service at the number I got tired of being on hold with.

Willie: Rain this morning was a lot of lightning to the south and less than 0.1 inches of rain.

I wish it would rain here my whole state is under a drought and burn ban. I believe don't quote me on that.

anyway God bless all of youins. may your trains run and never tumble off the layout

Good afternoon to everyone......

Lots of things to do that I really don't want to do. As I get older, it seems I have to push myself more and more. But it is also a relief when the chores are done.

I have only had one flu shot in my life. It was back in 90s when there was talk of a new strain of the "Hong Kong" flu circulating. Never got any covid shots. At my age I've learned not to trust my gubament. Each person has the right ( or should have ) to make decisions concerning ones health.
I was diagnosed with having covid about a year or so ago. My covid only lasted 6 days and seemed more like a bad cold. My doctor prescribed Ivermectin and a couple of over the counter vitamins. I have only had one case of the flu in over 16 years, besides my covid experience.
I had the flu several times as a kid so maybe that helped build my immunity.

On my 2-8-0 gear/belt drive project,............. I have been posting on another forum and one person there has 3D printed a replacement gear and is in the process of installing it and testing on one of his own locomotives. If he is successful, I suggested he make a batch of gears and offer them for sale. I'm still waiting on his progress report and reply. I have sort of put the work on my project on hold until I hear from this other person. Plus I have several other things that are more important at this time.......its always something.........see first paragraph on this post.

chadbag............ For me, the only good snake is a dead snake.

Gotta get busy.
Take care..............John

Like everyone else, I've gone through most of the various track cleaning methods for my HO layout.
Erasers, wine corks, dust monkeys, masonite blocks, and other ideas which I can't remember. I keep
coming back to mineral spirits on a old tee sheet wrapped around my index finger. It worked fine
on open track but not so good when there was vegetation and structures on the track right of way.
I have small hands but still big enough to snag on trees, signals, and buildings. My current method
is mineral spirits on a Q tip using my index finger as a guide to keep the Q tip on top of the rail,
favoring the inside of rail.

Been thinking of a better way and came up with this.

A small wood block mounted to an old truck. Plastic wheels are fine. The ones with deeper flanges work better. Two holes in the
block just large enough for the Q tip shafts. Some experimentation with the hole locations so the Q tips keep the nearest wheels
just above the rail. Pressing on the nut applies a bit of Q tip pressure as you push the cleaner around the layout.

Results from some track cleaning. Looks promising-price of consumables is negligible.

That's a very clever idea!

I'm another one who is happy with the results of mineral spirits. It has always seemed to keep the track cleaner longer.

Gonna have to pull for the Brewers!
Well, the girls lost their last home volleyball game tonight, but my G'niece Nataley sang the National Anthem and did a fantastic job. Got the switches in for the layout and worked on that for a bit tonight once home. All the switches had their wiring run without having to drill more holes in the foam base. Working tomorrow, so it will be Saturday before I can get out there again.

Fixed my ABe 8/12 loco. I received a replacement due to the first one sounding like a blender. Replacement sounded like a blender. Found that the chassis was too tight with the bottom plate on, so I printed up a spacer. Now it works fine. Easy fix for poor design.
