I finished the holly bush removal project yesterday by screening 10 wheelbarrows of dirt and filling in the 3 foot hole that was created in the process. I also added 12 bags of Scott's topsoil conditioner and Kentucky blue grass seed that should germinate in 18 days. I woke up tired this morning but that's got to end because it's a golf day and I have to get ready to head over to Dogwood golf course soon. Swal

Put some sand in the hole. You can then practice bunker shots.:eek:😇🤣

Good morning folks. 61°F/58°F here at 0735 this morning.

Nothing at all scheduled today. I might throw some hamburgers on the grill and I have to pick up a script sometime today.

Heading for a high of 87°F today, probably closer to 85°F here locally. We'll see. A cooling trend has started and their Magic 8 Ball says we might get a cold front to come through by next Tuesday bringing temps into the 70s where they are supposed to be in Oktober. The front brings little chance for rain so we will remain in extreme drought conditions.

One of these days it's going to rain. Happy Oktober! My favorite month and season to go with it.

Good Morning All. Clear and 65° to start this new month. Still looking at the same 10 day forecast, highs in the low-90's, overnight low's in the mid-60's, sunshine and no rain. Subject to change at the last minute when Mother Nature wishes to contradict the NWS. Yesterday's rain never hit the ground either at my place or anywhere on our doctor trip.

An early morning visit to a new to me doctor, referred to by my cardiologist. He's a Cardiac Electrophysiologist! I'm not sure he's what I need since my BP has leveled out in the past 30 days, but both my cardiologist and primary care doc agree that seeing him is a good idea. Meanwhile the visit with the PCP yesterday was uneventful, no medication changes and life as usual. The rest of the day was just the usual, more wood cutting and supper prep of Blackened Cod and leftover Green Pea Salad.

Out in the train shed, I unpacked my package from ScaleTrains, my 6 new SD40-2's. As expected, all of them looked good and ran well. A few pictures for now, I will post in one of the "new stuff" threads later.

Note the different paint schemes on the two above. The one on the right was the older scheme in which the "Santa Fe" was further back.
All of these represent rebuilt versions, with the headlight moved to the nose instead of over the cab, and the horns moved to the middle of the long hood instead of the front of the cab roof. Both done due to engineer recommendations to reduce glare and noise in the cabs.

In the above picture, only #5176 has the American flag on it. Note also that some of these diesels have MKM painted under their roster number. That designates locomotives that were under a maintenance agreement with Morrison Knudsen. Not all SD40-2's were covered.

All of the models have the appropriate horn, which differs from one engine to another. I believe that some are Leslie's and some are Nathan's

Happy Anniversary David and Dawn; and Happy Anniversary to Mike and Mrs. Mike.
Louis - Thanks for the update on Angela. Glad that she's on the mend at least from the pneumonia. Good luck with the taxes.
John - It was surprising to me how much damage a racoon could do to my trap. The biggest one that I caught had managed to unfasten the handle plate in two corners.
They haven't renamed the long-time Dollar General in town yet, but they built a DG Market in the middle of nowhere nearer to me, that just opened 8 months ago. Took them nearly 5 months before they finally got any fresh produce.

I gotta get ready now for that doctor. Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday.

I know I have enough rolling stock, I know.

Just purchased a little boxvan in aid of Sheffield Children's Hospital.
I do not generally buy charity rolling stock, as very little actually goes to any charity. Nearly half the price of this wagon is going to the hospital. Hence the purchase.

Good morning and congratulations to the anniversary couples, David and Dawn plus Mike and Mrs Mike

My section of Wisconsin will be cooler but still above seasonal temperature’s as today the high might only be 80. It’s a pleasant 56f degrees night now

I did start working on the section of the layout I wanted to yesterday and then added another area. Progress is a bit slower but I am in no hurry but finally started

I have 4 of my own diesels to weather. Yesterday in between working on the layout and letting glues dry I did the initial matte clear coat after masking windows, ditchlights and body lights. I haven’t weathered a diesel since the day after I came back from Hawaii so maybe 28 days and that was just a finish clear coat. It all felt good yesterday.

Tonight is the granddaughter’s 1st adaptive soccer game for special needs kids. This should be interesting as she has been playing soccer in the back yards with her brother and friends for years and they have shown her no mercy! Like her brother it’s seems she has been dribbling a soccer ball with her feet since she could walk.

Today is to hit at least 1 Farmers Market around 10am of the 3 available with 30 minutes of us. Some work on the layout, the soccer game and dinner finally at home

Enjoy your day

I love it. Go girl. Enjoy the game. :)

Just back from the morning walk! No Doggie Doody to report. I nudged a few clumps of dirt that looked poo-like, but I surmised they were from the squirrels burying their nuts in the grass.

Happy Anniversary to those amazed their spouses put up with them this long!

I'm waiting on the last load of laundry to finish in the dryer. Then it's off to Costco. Wife wants a bag of frozen sweet cherries. I suspect they're seasonal, despite being in the freezer section, but I'll look for them. And I'll get my Omeprazole and some other Costco staples.

Train vs Truck about half-an-hour west of the Fort:

According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded just before 5 a.m. to the intersection of State Road 25 and State Road 19 in the heart of Mentone. A semi was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver of the semi was trying to make a left turn from SR 25 but missed the turn. The semi instead went off the road and got stuck on the nearby railroad tracks, where an oncoming train collided with it.

The driver of the semi, a 60-year-old man from Howe, had to be flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment of internal injuries.

Good Morning All!
50F @ 81% raining. It rained so hard last night about 0200 it woke me up. Keep in mind without my aids, I don't hear sh.t and the howling was something. Wasn't wind, just rain on the metal roof.

Got cook stove parts yesterday and managed not to blow myself up fixing it. Of course, one of the small screws jumped out of my fingers and went to that place all small stuff hides. Ace trip and $0.17 later, good to go.

Maria starts her 71ist orbit tomorrow so ima going to take her to Bonner's Ferry for lunch then a motel a little South for dinner. I suspect we will walk around town doing the 'little shop cruise' between lunch and dinner. She likes that sort of stuff. Will take real camera JiC railroad comes into play....

Rabbit Rabbit

Guess it's October now most places.

Trying to get the cat to eat wet food (with the hairball formula) and he's avoiding it. Wants his dry kibble. Looks like I'll be adding dry kibbles with the hairball formula back into his diet if he won't eat the wet food.

Found out it might be one of the board members of the HOA with an elderly dog that is not cleaning up. Supposedly she's over-worked and walks while on the phone with work meetings, so i oblivious to the dog's needs. Hubby does the evening walk, and he cleans it up. That is just Supposition right now, but her walk time coincides with the window of occurrences.

Need to do the first of the month (when I remember) vacuuming of the air filters in the house. Need to find a pet sitter to come scoop the boxes, and keep the water fresh for the Lord of Fuzz while we're in Vegas in November. Since none of you live close enough to do that, I need to read some reviews of sitters on Rover.com.

And I need to write a resignation letter for the gaming coordinator role I'm in. Oct will be my last month with the duties, so it's time to let the game company know.

That's what on tap for today.
Troy you beat me to it, I have ummm posted in a couple of threads, somewhat frivolously ….grins…. And suggested then bought the idea here….we should have a Halloween month, either show off stuff you can stretch to Halloween, or add figures to the layout for Halloween, or tease the ….out of…who ever I just had fun on TLOCs thread he said he was finding it hard to get the mojo for modelling so I thought I would cheer him up….lol
And while I am on the subject
B E E t l j u i s s s
Oh joy not one managed to stay upright…..still fits with the theme..

It is amazing how I can make the simplest task into a grueling ordeal.
The local power company operates a hydroelectric lake 17 miles away where I have a lake front trailer. I have to remove my pontoon boat before they drop the water level five feet for winter.
My SIL and I went Sunday afternoon to pull the boat out. We hook up the trailer at the lot and I drove the boat about 1/2 mile to the boat ramp.
A nice sunny day with about a 6 mph breeze. The SIL backed the trailer into the water until the back tires were at the edge of the water.
I edged the boat around to line up with the trailer rails and slid up on the trailer perfectly. And the breeze moved the back of the boat of the off the trailer. I tried again and same results.
SIL moved the trailer up two feet and a #$2!*& gust of wind blew the boat off the trailer again. Moved the tailer another two feet up the ramp and tried again. Success! ....until a passing boat wake washed me off the trailer again. By this time, several onlookers were enjoying the show.
I backed away from the trailer, waited until another boat wake passed and lined up the trailer rails. I eased up on the rails and waited for the breeze to align with the rails, then goosed the motor to slide all the way up the rails. The audience applauded our success!
We strapped the boat down and slowly drove home where we man-handled the trailer behind the garage.
My wife had medical appointments Monday and Tuesday, so I waited until today to work on the boat and remove the battery for winter storage.
NOW, I had my ordeal. The battery is in an enclosed compartment. My 80 yro knees do not like extended contact with the floor.
I quickly disconnected the battery cables and moved the cables out of the way. The battery hold down strap is a plastic fabric with a plastic buckle.
In 20 minutes, I used several drunken sailor expressions as I tried to get the strap loose. I finally managed to work a key into the fabric around the buckle to loosen the strap enough to remove the battery.
I managed to extend a 5 minute task into a 50 minute ordeal. And my knees still hurt.

Good afternoon, all! October, wow. Only 85 days until Christmas. Weatherwise it's still summer regardless of the calendar.

Happy Anniversary David and Dawn, and Mike and the Mrs.
Todd - Birthday wishes to Maria.

Not a lot happening around the hobo camp. I do have a few tasks I'd like to get done, but I'm waiting for temps to get a bit cooler.

STAY SAFE

Got an early start as usual on Wednesdays. I hit the grocery store about 6:15 and get my shopping done early with no crowded isles. My girls usually want up around 4:30 in the morning to go outside. I am used to getting up early because when I was working, I usually had to leave at 5:30 to get to work, having to work with people on the east coast. Lights out does come early in the evening though. Like Todd mentioned, we had some good rain last night. It had been dry and hope that the rain helped the firefighters with the wildfires. It has been a bit smokey up here.

Have been working on finding sites to try to sell my railroad equipment, what's left of it. Have the vehicles, locomotives, freight cars left.

Willie - Like those locomotives.

Northbrit - Enjoy your posts. I have a cook book with recipes from the Northern Pacific railroad. I don't know if you are aware that I had relatives working on both the Milwaukee Road and the Northern Pacific and road on both railroads when I was a kid to visit family in northern Indiana. I also like cooking and find it hard sometimes cooking for just one person. Have to cook things that can be frozen and reheated. Getting pretty good at it.

Louis - Forgot to answer your question of few days ago. My little doxies are doing just fine. They keep me going. During the summer, I like to take them up to the Libby Dam, about 17 miles north to let them explore. WE usually cover over a mile. They have to be on a leash, so I just hang on and let them go where they want. Taxes can be a pain. I am getting a tax cut here because I am single and my income qualifies me for an 80% discount on the first $350,000 of the home value. We also got a $400 tax rebate up here.

chadbag - Isn't home ownership fun ? Yeah, right.

TomO - Nice looking track work you've done there.

Going to post a few photos from the archives again. Gotta get out of here.
