Well, howdy there internet hot doggers

It's Troy again

RIP to yet another Tariff thread over on MRH. They're fun - like a wreck in slo-mo - to watch.

Rained last night, but not stormy enough to wake me.

Before that I got the wife down into the man cave to watch day 1 of the Gettysburg movie. The 4 hour extended one. But, first I showed her this 15 min compendium of the 3-day battle. 15 min to get context. Then four hours of speeches by darn near everyone.

We'll do day two of the battle tonight. And Day three on Sat. then Sunday, we start the march to GB.
I’m fortunate to live only an hour away from Gettysburg. Spent a lot of time there. Best way to tour the battlefield is by bike. BTW, never saw any ghosts in all my years visiting.

Good morning. It's clear and 72.

Back in "the good old days", humans rarely lived past 40, and one of the benefits of living longer is finding new ways to die.
Haha, yeah, everything kills you now. Riding in the back of a pickup truck - didn't die. No seatbelts - didn't die. Friend fell off the back of the pickup on the freeway - didn't die. I jumped off the back of a jeepney in Thailand after a few shots of tokillya - didn't die. Drunk biking - didn't die.

But I don't know man, Troy's pizza - to die for :)

I don't know if you watched the race or not but how he won I don't know?

Morning all,

Well, round 1 went to our north. West Wichita received some large (golf ball sized) hail around 4ish yesterday afternoon, we barely had rain. The weather radio went off twice, once for the storm watch and once on the storm that ran through Wichita, but missed us, but hit the northeast part of the county moving away. Tornados in Northwest side of the state did some decent damage and had interstate 70 closed due to power lines down.

Next round starting along Interstate 135 and east this afternoon. Biggest risk will be in southeast Kansas along the Oklahoma border.

kgstakes: Be careful coming back as the rain expected early afternoon (about 2ish according to the NWS) with storms possibly severe through midnight, and because we need the rain, it will stay east of us.

Good morning

34f in east central Minnesota, very windy.

That "green beer" I mentioned was back in high school. At that time an 18 year old could legally purchase alcohol in my state.

We also had something called 3.2 beer, super weak beer they sold in grocery stores

Good morning gang!

Sunny and 60°, heading to a high of 72° today, just beautiful!!

Patrick you should have a great day running around G-Burg. Living an hour away I've been there more times than I can remember. If you get a chance Tommy Gilbert's on Water Street is a great place for the modeler in you to visit!

Will do my friend, last night was terrible some hail but looked this morning and no damage to truck or camper. Heading home in about an hour after breakfast and pack up.

We dodged the bullet last night we’ll see if it luck holds for today.

Good morning from windy again Wisconsin. My walking outside to start the day has ended for the next month or so. Bad weather is expected tomorrow morning so the treadmill walking will start a day earlier than planned. The brother’s Vegas place, hotels and the place in Maui have the walk on but go nowhere machines. The golf course my brother is on in Maui discourages non golfing walkers due to insurance liability. When i was last there though they were talking about a walking path. Based on the golf course views that would be a gorgeous place to walk. The paths here are for golf carts

Those pictures are all from the course. It would take awhile to adjust to the elevation changes

What we die of. My Endocrinologist in 2015 when he told me I had thyroid cancer told me that most autopsy for senior men over 65 show 2 forms of cancer in the system, prostate and thyroid. The reason we are unaware of that is the autopsy will show the causes of death but not what other diseases maybe present. He also told me re-occurring thyroid cancer is rare. So take his words for what they are worth. I have had 3 operations for thyroid cancer and related lymph modules!

I’m ready and packed to leave. I have confirmation my golf clubs and clothes arrived safely at my brother’s place

I have a detailed list on all my commissions as to when they need to be shipped by the daughter

Sunday since the weather was not the greatest to be outdoors (high 30mph gusts) was spent mainly in the train room. I don’t believe I’ve spent that much time at my bench in a couple years in one day. I loved it and being on a roll and zoned out is great. The IPod is still churning out the music! If you are interested, see my Continuous weathering thread. Intermodal chassis and containers are yesterday’s subjects

The outcome while not what I was hoping for truly was not unexpected. The Florida Panthers decimated the hapless Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL playoffs

Heading to the slot car track. The grandson has a 10am late start for school today and just asked me. So later…

Another USPS order only an hour away from here 3 days ago not here yet. A month ago, they lost my other order who knows where. They told me it's lost somewhere in the system. When I cashed in my life insurance policy they asked if I wanted a check to be mailed to me. I said, no way. Do a direct deposit in my bank account. I no longer trust the Post Office department.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 74° this morning. Possible strong thunderstorms again today which are supposed to clear out by sunset. There were some tornadoes in Texas last night, but none nearby that were confirmed. But, there's tornadoes in Texas every spring, many of which aren't even reported. Continued cool temperatures (under 90°) should prevail until this coming weekend with the next chance for rain coming next Monday.

The unpredictable weather stifled any outdoor tasks yesterday, the unforecasted rain around 2:00 shut things down abruptly. It then held off until sunset. My whole morning was taken up with church and household tasks. Today, we need to head to town to take the Accura to the shop. The rear hatch/tailgate won't stay open, making loading or unloading kinda difficult without two persons. I need to check out the garden for hail damage but I suspect it to be minor if any at all. Otherwise, no real plans for today.

Time out in the train shed yesterday was limited. But I have been enjoying operating trains so much lately that I did it again. I need to formalize my switching a bit rather than just throwing the needed rolling stock into a train and taking off to a town. I have read over the years from real railroaders that some yardmasters organize outgoing trains with the switching in mind; and some just throw together empties and loads and let the conductor sort them out later on. I'd like to get a little more organized. I have a good idea of the sequence of moves once I get to a town, like drop caboose here, leave incoming cars on the main, gather outgoing cars, etc. But I can approach all 11 of my towns from either the north or the south and things are different from each direction. I can also leave and head back to the originating yard or go in the other direction. I want to document some of this stuff so I don't have to figure it out each time.
Of course, I am not making any progress in completing some of the projects on the list!

Hughie - Your comment reminds me; I'm sure that you remember all of the billboards along the highways in the early 70's, with then governor Dolph Briscoe waving at us with the words "Drive Friendly" on them!
Terry -
The expiration date on a can of diet soda is a real thing. I've gotten hold of some out of date soda before, and it wasn't very good.
I can attest to that!
Dave - Yep! Beer has an expiration date, at least the brands that I purchase do. But it's rare for any in my house to even approach that date!
Chad - I agree with you on canned goods, although we don't purchase many. I grow or make most everything that we use. Our local grocery store always has fresh produce and meats.
I've heard that every man will die of prostate cancer if they don't die of something else first.
Well, many die "with it", but not necessarily "because of" it.
That's like padding the Covid death statistics early on, no matter what the cause of death was, if you had Covid then that was listed as the cause of death!
Marlin - Excellent scene.
Kirk - I think that's your name kgstakes, I'm glad that you came through the night unscathed.

Everyone have a safe and excellent day today, and every day. Be careful if you're driving somewhere.

The first time my parents drove down from NY to visit us in TX my dad was fascinated by the "Drive Friendly" signs along the TX highways. Dad had a rather heavy foot. He got pulled over by DPS and of course with NY tags the officer was set for bear. Dad did his best poor me, visiting son the Coast Guard, been years, etc. Well, he talked his way out of a ticket. As the officer was leaving, he told dad, "Drive Friendly"

Good afternoon to all...............

I turned 77 last week and I'll say I'm really starting to feel it. I go to bed feeling sleepy and tired and wake up in the morning just feeling tired. Lots of things I used to do just because they needed to be done, yard mowing, oil change in the autos and just general housework just now get put on the back burner. Now the yard is about at least a week overdue on mowing/weed eating work. Trees need trimming. I don't really feel like doing any of this crap.
I need to pick up limbs out of the yard before I can mow. So, I have a small trailer I pull behind my 4 wheeler that I use for this. Well my 4 wheeler is water cooled and the electric fan has quit working so that needs to be fixed. No problem, I had to do this about 5 years ago so I go to look for the service manual that steps me through the process. Now I have a place in a storage cabinet in my shop where I keep manuals and paperwork on all the tools I own. But, the service manual for the 4 wheeler is no place to be found. This seems to be the way all my projects end up. I have to do three things before I can get to the project I originally was going to do and every step becomes more difficult than it should be.
It is 4:15 pm here in west Texas and I'm headed for a nap. I may try to program my ESU decoder later that I have been working on for a week. I'm
starting to loose interest on my railroad hobby. The servo controllers I have been using are now NOT being shipped from the UK because of tariffs. Just another example of $hit happening to make life a little more crappy. Funny, I was able to order a MegaPoint servo controller from the UK and shipping was only $12.50. Now I will have two different but similar controllers on the layout.....something I was hoping to avoid. Oh well, I could go on.
A friend of mine said a long time ago, "Life is like a bucket of $hit with the handle on the inside". I believe he was right.

Take care....John
